Welcome to

J. P. Hovercraft's

Mellotron

Sample Page

J. P. leers from the command center of Hovercraft Studio, the mighty Atari STe. OK, some work gets done on the PC in the living room.

August 1, 2005 - I'M BACK!!!! I've been locked out of this page for over 5 years now, but today I found my username and password in an old email. So let's celebrate by adding a link to my latest sample page for the Peavey SP. Lots of free samples to download if you're an SP/SP+ user. Drop in, have a look, download some samples, kick my counter up. There will be a News and Links section coming soon ... and maybe some more samples.

IT'S BACK! Yes, this page disappeared for a while, replaced, due to a screw-up at Fortune City, by a (shudder...) SPICE GIRLS PAGE!!! Anyway, the Mellotron samples have returned. The delay was due to the failure of my Zip drive. With it down, my sample library was not accessable. That has now been remedied. We now return you to the old page. BTW, my old counter was reading -over- 25,000 hits when the page went down. Please add that number to the current counter reading.

I'm a musician with a small home studio. This includes (of course) a sampler, the Peavey SP. At the time I bought it, it was -the- most affordable 16 bit sampler on the market. In fact, since I bought the SIMMs for it at the height of the "epoxy shortage", the RAM cost more than the sampler did! Boy, have times changed!

Using this and an Atari STe (4 Meg RAM, 20 MegHD) running GenWave, I've created a fine little library for myself. I hope to share it with users of any make of sampler.

All audio samples are in .wav format. You'll also find text files that will include loop points and programming suggestions. If you're using Sound Forge, chances are that the loop points will still be a part of the .wav files.

I was going to change samples on an irregular basis, but the Mellotron (c) samples have proved to be so popular, I'll be leaving them until interest wanes. Check back once in a while.

I've been asked how to download the samples. Netscape users should hold down the Shift key and click on the link to the sample. Internet Explorer users should right click on the link to the sample and choose "Save target as...". Both of these actions should result in a dialog box that asks you where you want to save the file.

I've removed (05/25/99) the graphics after receiving e-mail from the Mellotron Archive. It seems I was unintentionally infringing on a copyright by using them. Please visit them by clicking on their name. You'll find all kinds of information about the beast and for those craving the ultimate in realism, you'll find a wonderful sample CD with every note of a huge variety of original Mellotron sounds on it. Available in Akai format (which almost any sampler can read), this is the ultimate solution for those sampler owners who can't afford a real Mellotron...but you'll find those there, too!

The Mellotron name is the property of David Kean and the Mellotron Archive and is found here by his/their good graces. Please click on their name and visit their site.
