Here comes the info on the very rare ROD EVANS solo single for Capitol Records in 1970 or 1971.
It has two songs credited to other composers:
"Hard To Be Without You"
"You Can't Love A Child Like A Woman".

My copy has "Promotional Record - Not For Sale" printed on the label. It comes in a simple Capitol sleeve. It's unknown to this day, if the single was actually ever released to the general public. I know two other people, who have the a copy of this single, but actually nobody, who has a copy without the "Promo..." printed on the label!
Musically it can be compared to Tom Jones, but I would say, it's much better: "Hard To Be Without You" is a should-have-been-hit, there's no doubt about it. "You Can't Love..." is one of the saddest songs ever written, it is a heart touching song about missed chances in life, that never come back, about the impossibility to overcome the rules of time. Though it is musically totally opposed to Deep Purple and Captain Beyond, it has the similarity of the timelessness that is reflected in the voice of Rod Evans. In other words, Rod Evans vocals are everlasting! Why the single was never pushed into the market, we can only speculate: it could down to Capitol (eighter portfolio policy or ignorance, or maybe both) or down the artist. Listening to the songs almost 30 years later, I can assure that they are a perfect example for the hollywood boulevard of broken dreams.
