Wonderful creatures
Galah...I watched these beautiful birds during my early morning walks, they don't sound the best...very "screechy", but they look beautiful, all pink flying overhead.

Kookaburra...I have been awoken more times than I care to remember by a kookaburra or three....they have the most devilish laugh imaginable....I wish they'd let me in on the joke.Click pic to learn how the Kookaburra got his laugh! Click HERE to hear it!

Rainbow Lorikeet...I think the Rainbow Lorikeet is one of the most attractive birds in the world....they also sound very sweet, but they make an awful mess of native bottlebrush bushes,I've seen literally dozens descend on an innocent bush and strip it bare, I'm not kidding, they just love the flowers. Anyone who owns such a bush will know what I'm talking about!.

Cockatoos...Another bird that can be spotted everywhere in Australia, when they fly over in large groups they make a huge racket. They also like to pick in grass for seeds etc, and from a distance they look like paper littering the ground. These birds make great talkers, but I prefer them wild as they should be.

Koala...Koala's are traditionally Australia's most recognised animal, I suppose because they look so cute and cuddly, but, in the wild they are known to use their sharp claws on occasion, so, if your ever out there in the bush and you feel like a cuddle - "beware".

Kangaroo and joey...These amazing animals are considered as pests in rural Australia, because they destroy fences around farms and are culled regularly to keep their numbers down. A sad fact, but true. My parents own a property in the "bush" and they are seen frequently, but they never disturb anyone, I love them for their special uniqueness.Click pic to learn why the kangaroo hops!

Blue Tongue lizard...Very common in most Aussie gardens, great for keeping spiders and other nasties away. I had one that lived in my garage under the hot water tank, she lived there for years, and graced my garden with several babies, they were my own natural pest controllers.

Female Funnel Web Spider...It is a large (6-7 cm), black, aggressive, ugly looking spider with massive fangs. These are large and powerful enough to easily penetrate a fingernail. The venom is highly toxic, and fatalities are not uncommon. When disturbed it tends to rear up on its hind legs, aggressively exposing the fangs. The spider firmly grips its victim and bites repeatedly; in most cases the experience is horrific. I met one while hanging out the wash one day. SCARY!

Female Redback Spider...The adult female redback is about 2-3 cm long, quite black, with a distinctive red stripe on its abdomen. The male is much smaller and considered harmless. Neither are aggressive. These are common garden spiders where I come from, and while gardening I was very careful to look first before digging. The bite is extremely painful.
