Vinyl Nirvana's 80s Technology Page

How many of you remember the good old Atari 2600? Or better still, CEDs? This page will be dedicated to the technology that was here in the 1980's but is gone today.

Selectavision CED Video Disc

CED is the acromyn for Capacitance Electronic Disc, also known as Selectavision. Between 1980 and 1984 over 3/4 of a million players were made before the format was abandoned, but discs were produced for about 3 years more. The discs came in hard plastic shells, and were big, bulky and heavy as sin! They went into the front of the machine, which pulled the disc in and spit out the case... about halfway through the movie, you would have to insert the case, and remove the dics, then turn it over and play side two. Some movies required more than one disc, and some up to four! The format died as a result of the hugely successful VHS cassette, which could be recorded on, and movies rented instead of purchased. Now relegated to the thrift shops, movies usually sell for less then a dollar apiece. Collectors have made the dead system come alive again, and they have their own category on Ebay. Many 80s artists put out video compilations and concert discs... you can bet I will be searching for these =).

CED Magic Website
This site has all the best information on CEDs, including the very informative FAQ (where my info was gleaned), how to care for your CED player, and even a list of titles... tons of info!

Atari 2600 Video Computer System

Who can forget playing the latest 2600 video cart, and thinking it was the greatest think since sliced bread? My collection of Atari-abilia is big... not as big as some, but bigger than most. I have almost 300 different carts, and all sorts of accessories.
