All of my life, I have loved cats. I have had many thru the years.
Right now, we only have 2.
"Mouse" Mouse is 5 years old. She got her name quite by accident. Our neighbor's cat Tasha, Mouse's mom, was nearing time for the babies to be born. It was a rainy April 1st and I didn't want her to have them outside so I let her in our house where she proceeded to have the kittens in Laura's bedroom closet. Imagine her delight when she came home from school and found brand new baby kitties in her closet! As the next few weeks progressed, it was definitely apparent that Mouse was the runt of the litter and not a very pretty kitten. The kids in the neighborhood were not very nice to her, (as little kids can be) and they started calling her "Alien". Her head was larger than her body and strange shaped and her fur was strangely clear. Animals are marked on their skin similarly to their fur markings. She was definitely a strange looking kitten. Every time I heard the kids call her "Alien", I felt awful for this tiny little thing that was forced to be weaned long before she was ready as the others were much bigger and stronger and Tasha was tired of nursing them, so she kicked Mouse off nursing too. Mouse was so tiny that she didn't even have a real meow. She only squeaked. One day, I realized that her meow sounded like a mouse, and she was so tiny, like a mouse, so I started calling her Mouse and it stuck. As time grew near to find homes for them, I had already decided I wanted to keep Mouse as I figured she wouldn't be wanted cause she was so strange looking. Laura wanted to keep the prettiest kitten whom she had named "Comet". There were 2 girls and 2 boys in the litter. Since they were born on April 1st, I had named the boys "Joker" & "Jester". It just seemed fitting! The people who adopted the boys, said they loved their names and planned to keep them. When people started looking at the kittens, some actually wanted Mouse! I didn't want to let her go by then though, and had to convince Laura that she really didn't want Comet. Now THAT was a hard one! But I did finally win and we kept Mouse. Many, many times over the past 5 years, I have been so grateful for keeping Mouse instead of Comet as Mouse is now such a beautiful cat and one of the most unusual cats I have ever owned. She is amazing! She is more like a human than a lot of humans I know ! LOL I could go on for pages on her antics, but I have a lot of things I have found on cats that I would like to share with you.
Our other cat's name is Bridgette and she is 19 years old. She was taken in by my late husband Wayne's stepdaughter Joy who was living with him at the time. She got Bridgette from a woman who had just had her first baby and was afraid of Bridgette being around the baby. Bridgette hated Joy and hid all the time from both of them. In time, Bridgette fell totally in love with Wayne. She lived for him to come home so she could get in his lap where she would stay until he physically threw her out so he could go to bed ! In case you are wondering, yes, she misses him terribly. He is waiting for her on the other side of The Rainbow Bridge.
(10-26-1998) OOPS. . .now we have three. We just got a little girl kitty that is very special. She is not very welcomed by Mouse though. Let me say that Mouse is very, very, very angry. Bridgette just stares at her and walks away. I think we are going to call her Nozy. She is extremely curious and rubs noses with Laura all the time. She is very unique in that she has extra toes ! She has 6 toes on each front paw and 5 toes on each back paw. Her father is the same way and there are 3 other kittens in the litter that way. Our neighbors Mindi and Phil had gotten her and their 2 other cats were not getting along so well with her so we decided to take her.
(12-28-98) Well. . .looks like she is my baby ! She tries to live in my lap, or curled up on my chest, and sleeps all over me when I'm TRYING to sleep. She is in my lap now while I'm trying my best to type. LOL She is a "wild child". Runs all over the house trying her best to beat up the "big" cats wanting to play. I spend all day calling her off of them. I get out the fly swatter and threaten her. She looks at it and me and blinks and off she runs after them again ! Doesn't faze her at all. She is a heathen child ! *G*
