Other bands on the bill are Mansun, who will
headline the Melody Maker tent on the Sunday,The Divine Comedy, who
are likely to play the main stage on Saturday, and the Chemical
Brothers.
There is also a good chance that Fountains of Wayne will play (see
gig review below) and don’t discount the possibility of
Ultrasound making an appearance after their highly successful 2nd
spot on the Melody Maker tent last year.
Fountains of Wayne played an amazing gig at the
Reading Alleycat last night, Friday 16th of April. They were supported
by The younger younger 28’s (kinda strange but kinda cool) and
local Reading band Levy (kinda crap) one gig goer described levy as
“a poor man’s Cast” ,which is pretty close to the
mark.
Fountains of Wayne just blew them all away with a mixture of new and
old songs,16 in all,(set list below). They showed great wit and
excellent Rock tunage to please the audience,a mixture of indie kids,
men with large beards and H.M.V employees. The set geld really
well,Particular great were ‘Sick day’ and the last single
‘Denise’.The 2 song encore was ‘Leave the biker’
preceded by an unexpected rendition of Britney Spears ‘baby one
more time’.I met lead singer Adam after the show who told me
that they had demo’d the song in the States and then it later
was played by Howard Stern on his radio show to the bemusement of the
band.It was planned to be the b-side to forthcoming single Red Dragon
Tattoo but is now unlikely to be because really I don't think the
band want to be known for doing this one song, they want to be known
for making wonderfully beautiful, charged rock music, which they are
very good at doing.

The long awaited debut album from Ultrasound is
released today on limited edition double C.D and 12”.It should
see them propelled into the spotlight to receive the fame and
adulation that their talent surely deserves.(Review coming soon)
Devon Band Muse release their first single in May.It
will be entitle ‘Uno’,like the popular card game.
I have seen Muse and can vouch for their brilliance. They are sure to
win the hearts of many music lovers up and down the country with
great songs such as ‘Cave and ‘Showbiz’.They also
appear on Steve Lamacq’s evening session tour, one date of which
will be broadcast on radio 1’s Lamacq Live (MONDAY 17th of
May).
Suede guitarist Richard Oakes has become a laughing
stock at the NGU (National Guitarists Union), by having his once
proudly long brown hair cut to leave himself with a short nonsensical
straw top (even the base player looks cooler than him.).Isn’t
about time that Suede went back to their flamboyant long-haired
best?
