Furious George Writes A Review!

Saturday, February 20 - 1999: The Last Night Of The Recording Of
The "Live From Continental" Record.
By,
George Tabb
It
was one of those shows that you can't believe. Couldn't. Not
ever. Well, in 1999, anyway. Joey Ramone. Dee Dee Ramone. Marky
Ramone. All on one stage. Not exactly at one time, but what the
hell.
I arrived at the Continental around 7:30. Noel, the club's booker
and soundman wanted to see me. As well as the owner, Trigger. I
had yet to sign the contract for the recording, as I'm super lazy
and wouldn't tie my own shoes to save my neck, but only do so in
that I care too much about my Yorkshire Terrier, Scooter. If I
were to get hurt, who would take care of the little pup?
So I show up and Noel informs me that at the last minute, The
Remains, featuring Dee Dee, Barbie, and Marky Ramone are to play.
I'm excited. Thrilled, actually. I've seen the Remains a few
times, even with C.J., and each time it's a thrill. So I sign the
damn contract right away, wait for my band, Furious George to
show up, and soundcheck. See, we were the first band playing that
night.
Eventually the rest of my guys show up...that's Evan on bass and
Michael on drums, we sound check, then play our set. It goes very
well, and I am happier than fuck that all the people from the
Ramones newsgroup show up. Well, most of them. Those who live too
far couldn't show up. I mean, I guess Finland and Australia are
far away. Pussies.
Okay, so after the set I'm downstairs and Perforated Head is
playing. I see one of the guys from Suicide King, and he asks how
many songs we did. I ask him why, and he explains that he, like
us, only has twenty minutes to play. I say we did 9 songs. He
says he can maybe manage 4, and asks us how we did 9. The answer,
according to Monte Ramone is "The Song Ramones The
Same". Except we are Furious George, so our songs are
shorter.
Suicide King takes the stage, with 4-Way, their singer, belting
out some great punk. He's cool, and was in a band in SF twenty
years earlier that did this great song called "God Damn
Mother Fucking Son Of A Bitch". Classic stuff.
Next The Independents take the stage and halfway through their
set, Joey Ramone gets up there and belts out Sedated. If that
wasn't enough, he follows it with Slug, Garden Of Serenity, and
the fucking Blitzkrieg Bop. The whole time, Evil, the singer of
The Independents helps stir the crowd into a frenzy. It was great
hearing Joey sing, and even greater to hear the real guitar riff
for Garden played live! Punk rock!
Next everyone, including Joey and Marky, had their picture taken
together for the album cover photo. It was real fun, cause I got
to be in the picture too, even though Marky pointed me out to
Trigger, the club owner, and said he wouldn't be on the same
stage as me. But he was. Too bad.
Next up, The Remains. They did mostly old Ramones tunes and it
was classic. Barbara sang a song called "Hop Around"
that I really liked, and their whole set was great. Dee Dee
played wonderfully, and Marky, as I have said many times, is the
best drummer I've ever heard! They were real tight, and I found
myself cheering for them, as I did for Joey and the Independents.
Next up was The Waldos, Lenny Kaye, and zillions of others. But,
alas, I left to be home with my dog who needed to go out. But I
told him all about the show and he barked in amazment. He barked
that if Johnny had been there, it'd have been the perfect night.
I told him it was. He told me to give him a milkbone, which, of
course I did.
The End.

Thanks to George Tabb for his time and effort.
George is so punk even his dog wears spikes.
