Background music . . . Venus, from The Sounds of Space

Visit The Sounds of Space

NoTiCe: You really need to have wavetable synthesis enabled on your soundcard to experience the music here. If you don't have the hardware, check out the NovaStation SXG50 software driver. All the midi files found here were composed using either this driver, Riptide or the Sound Blaster pci128 in synth mode. Since GM midi sounds are dependent upon one's card or driver, even though the instruments remain constant, your mileage may vary.

Welcome to my fractal music page. I've got some choice fractal music links and my own favorite renderings available for your listening pleasure. With a few exceptions, the music found here was generated by various software programs and is unmodified. My hand in it comprised of selecting instruments and parameters, the CPU did the rest.

Why this page? To me, music is something grand and should be shared with others. I happen to find music generated by the computer to be quite varied and a particularly interesting medium worth exploring. The works you'll find here are examples of my exploration.

If you enjoy sampled tracks, try my alternate site for a few non-fractal gen'd Impulse Tracker tunes.

Project Oblivion v1.27a ( ~818k)

Oblivion, which generates random music and saves as a midi file, is a program that I'm currently working on. Examples of music generated by Oblivion are selectable from the Fractal Music window to the left. To download the full install/uninstall package click the title above. Click here for the executable (v1.27a ~263k), samples, and text files only (unzip to a directory of your choosing then run the program). Comments/feedback most welcome. Want to recommend Oblivion to a friend?

Here are some midi files composed by others using Oblivion and a few collections composed with various software packages. Click here for a RealAudio example of Brittle, created with Oblivion.
