AJ Confidential
- He once beat Howie in a talent competition! The lads battled it out at the contest in Orlando when AJ was just 14, and he ended up winning the $1,000 first prize.
- He really hates broccoli! He went off it as a kid when his mum used to force feet it to him.
- He may look like the toughest guy in the 'hood, but apparently AJ's a bit handy with a feather duster. He's one of the neatest members of the band and loves to do housework.
- Like the other boys, he had all sorts of weird and wacky jobs before he joined the band. "I got a job on a comedy called Hi, Honey I'm Home, playing a character called Skunk," he tells us. "I had to die my hair blond down the middle and shave the sides to make a rat's tail. It was kinda embarrassing."
- Although he was more interested in doing school plays than taking to the playing field, AJ still found time to be a bit sporty. "I used to run when I was in high school," he remembers. "But I didn't have much choice cause I sucked at every other sport."
- AJ has always been a bit of an, ahem, individual. At school, when all the other kids had knapsacks, he took a briefcase - just to be different. He even wore fake glasses to make himself look like a businessman.
- His natural love of the limelight led AJ into modeling at a very early age - or was there another reason? "I had to change in the same room with the older female models," he reveals. "There I was, just seven years old, and these tall beautiful women were stripping in front of me."
- Like Nick, AJ got a lot of hassle at school from other boys who thought his love of singing and dancing was a bit girlie.
- Having grown up without his dad around, AJ decided to try and track him down last year. When they actually did meet up, it turned out his dad had been following his career. He'd even bought a couple of their albums.
- AJ got his first break playing Dopey in a stage production of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs, when he was just seven years old. "I remember having the biggest crush on the girl who played Snow White," he confesses. "She must have been 10 years older than me, but to this day I remember her…"
- It's good to talk, and this bloke's never off the phone! He misses his friends and family so much he's always running up huge bills on his mobile.
- Don't be surprised if the next Backstreet album contains a song called Delliah. If it does, it'll be all about one of the ladies in his life - nope, not a secret girlfriend, but his beloved pet dog!
- Despite that tough old exterior, AJ's just a big old softy at heart. When he falls in love he reckons he's really romantic!
- AJ is bonkers about girls who have really long nails. "I love the feel of them on the back of my head," He says excitedly.
