Both
Kevin and Julia waited in the hall while the doctor examined
Abigail thoroughly. This gave Julie the opportunity to talk to
Kevin about his plans. If it wasn’t her best friend she was
worried about, she wouldn’t bring it up with Kevin, but she
couldn’t just let it go. “Can I ask you something Kevin?”
Julia asked.
“Of
course. What’s up?” Kevin asked, grateful for the
opportunity to get to know one of Abigail’s friends.
“This
may not be any of my business, but what are your plans as far as
Abigail goes? I honestly don’t think she could handle it if
you left her behind while you went on tour.” Julia said,
praying that she hadn’t over stepped an invisible boundary.
She was just concerned about her friend.
“You
have every right to know because you’re concerned about
Abigail. I haven’t really talked to her about it because I’m
afraid she’s going to resist a little bit, but I want her to
join me on the road for at least a little while. I don’t think
she’s ready to deal with this on her own either and I’m very
aware of that.” Kevin said.
“I
had a feeling you would do the right thing, but I just wanted to
make sure.” Julia said as she breathed a sigh of relief.
“I
was also thinking of bringing some of her friends out for a
couple days. What do you think about that idea?” Kevin said.
Julia
almost couldn’t believe what Kevin was saying. “Did Abigail
tell you that some of us are fans?” Julia asked.
“Actually,
no she hadn’t mentioned that. But that’s even more of a
reason to have you guys come out. I could introduce you to the
rest of the guys and you guys could hang out with Abigail for a
couple of days. I think it’s important that she’s surrounded
by as many people as possible.” Kevin said.
“Are
you sure about that?” Julia asked.
“Of
course I am. All I have is Abigail’s well being in mind, and I
think she’d love to have you guys along for a couple days. It
can get pretty boring being on tour with us, especially if we
have a lot of promotional work planned. I’ll mention it to
Abigail today and have her contact you with the details.”
Kevin said.
“I’m
so glad she has you Kevin. She’s done nothing but tell me how
sweet and supportive you have been. Thank-you for being so good
to her Kevin.” Julia said, as she started to get emotional.
Abigail had endured so much in her lifetime and it was about
time something went her way.
“It’s
easy when you love someone. And I do love her Julia.” Kevin
said as the doctor walked out of her room and walked towards
Kevin and Julia.
“I
think Abigail is physically able to go home today, but I fear
she’s going to face a lot of psychological problems as a
result of everything that has happened. I’d like to have a
psychiatrist meet with her and make any recommendations before
she leaves. After that, I’ll have no problems preparing her
release papers.” The doctor said.
“Is
she aware that you’d like her to meet with a psychiatrist?”
Kevin asked, having no doubts that she’d cooperate.
“Yes,
I was quite honest with her. She seemed open to the idea and
asked if she could have you present.” The doctor replied.
“I
didn’t think she would resist at all. How do you feel about me
being present?” Kevin asked, wanting to do the best thing for
Abigail.
“We’ll
leave that up to Dr. Steep, who I have asked to come down and
speak with Abigail.” The doctor replied.
“Thank-you
for everything.” Kevin said as he shook the doctors hand.
“Not
a problem. I wish you both the best of luck.” The doctor said
before he went on his way.
“Can
you just give me a second to go in and say goodbye to Abigail?
Then I’ll leave the two of you alone.” Julia said.
“Take
your time. I need to make a few calls anyways.” Kevin said.
The
psychiatrist Dr. Steep didn’t see any reason why Kevin
couldn’t stay, so they spent almost two hours talking about
how different things made Abigail feel, what her concerns were,
what she was going to do to try and move forward and how Kevin
was going to be involved in the plan.
In
the end, they all agreed that Abigail was going to accompany
Kevin on the road for a minimum of one month and they would
assess Abigail’s progress at that time. Dr. Steep had
prescribed a mild sedative to help Abigail sleep if the
nightmares resurfaced and she would talk to Dr. Steep every
second day over the telephone. They would also have Dr.
Steep’s emergency contact information if they ever needed to
get in touch with him.
At
that time, the hospital was happy to release Abigail into
Kevin’s care.
