The Secrets Trilogy: Part 1 - Constant Fear

Chapter 24

The next morning, Abigail woke up just a few minutes before Kevin and she was feeling pretty good, the best she had in days. As her eyes adjusted to the light, she noticed that the comforter was only covering Kevin’s upper body and as she moved to cover Kevin’s legs. As she did that, she couldn’t help but notice the usual arousal Kevin had in the mornings and remembered that Kevin had been highly aroused the night before but she hadn’t been in any shape to make love to him. She wasn’t sure when Kevin needed to be up, but she figured they would have enough time to have a little fun. Kevin had been so patient with her lately; she wanted to make it up to him. She started by tweaking Kevin’s nipple with her long fingers and smiled when he moaned in his sleep. After a few minutes, she leaned forward and gently kissed Kevin on the lips as she let her hands move down his body and eventually take his arousal in her hands.

Kevin thought he was dreaming when he felt Abigail kissing and caressing him, but as Kevin started to return Abigail’s kiss, he realized that he was very much awake. He didn’t have time to think about what they were doing, he just went along with what Abigail was doing until the telephone rang and interrupted the early morning sex fog that had developed in the room. Kevin answered the phone and cursed when he figured out it was his wake up call. He needed to be ready to leave for a radio interview in half an hour. He hated to stop Abigail because his need for release was so great, but they would have to continue later that morning when they returned. It took all the will power in the world to say, “That feels amazing Abi, but we’re going to have to continue this later. We have that radio interview to do this morning.” Kevin said as he removed Abigail’s hand from his body and moved to get out of bed.

“Kevin, why don’t you at least let me please you. You’re gonna be awfully uncomfortable in that interview if I let you go like that.” Abigail said seductively, determined to please Kevin.

“Unfortunately we don’t have time to fool around Abi. We’ll pick up where we left off when we get back. Now, it’s time to get up. The van is leaving the hotel in twenty-five minutes.” Kevin said as she quickly pulled on a clean pair of boxer briefs.

“But Kevin, I was looking forward to making love to you.” Abigail griped.

“And Abi, you know how much I would love to just forget about everything and spend the morning making love to you, but I have this one responsibility this morning and then I’m all yours until the show tonight.” Kevin said.

“You’re just saying that.” Abigail said as she threw the covers over her head in a fit.

“Where is this coming from? You know I would never lie to you.” Kevin said as he uncovered Abigail’s face.

“Just go to your interview. I’m staying in bed.” Abigail said as she rolled over; Her back was now facing Kevin.

“Please don’t do this Abigail. You know I can’t leave you here alone.” Kevin said, as he started to loose his patience. It was early in the morning and he wasn’t any happier about going to the interview when he would much rather stay in bed and make love to Abigail.

“Why do I have to go everywhere with you? It’s seven o’ clock in the morning for crying out loud. I don’t feel like getting up.” Abigail said, as she rolled onto her back and folded her arms across her chest as if to tell Kevin to back off.

“We talked about this Abigail. Until Dr. Steep feels that you are a little more stable, I am not to leave you alone. Now I’m going to the bathroom. I want to see you out of bed and dressed by the time I’m done.” Kevin said strongly. It was difficult being firm with Abigail and he had to remind himself that he was doing the best thing for her.

Kevin tried to take some deep breaths as soon as he closed the bathroom door and he tried to remind himself that Abigail couldn’t really control her moodiness. Dr. Steep mentioned that it was a chemical imbalance in Abigail’s brain that caused the severe mood swings. He quickly washed his face and brushed his teeth before he removed one of the anti-depressants from the bottle and filled a glass with water. He prayed that Abigail was out of bed when he stepped out of the washroom.

As she heard the bathroom door open signaling that he was back in the room, Abigail felt guilty for giving Kevin a hard time. She quietly waited for Kevin to give her the third degree about her behavior, but it never came.

Kevin took a deep breath when he saw that Abigail had not moved from her spot in the bed. He walked around to her side of the bed and sat down. “Will you at least take your medication?” Kevin asked in a gentle tone, trying to be as understanding as possible.

Abigail wasn’t sure what exactly happened next or what triggered it, but she grabbed the glass from Kevin’s hand and threw it across the room. They both jumped when they heard it break against the wall. “I don’t want to take any more god damned medication. It’s not working anyways.” Abigail said. It was almost as if she was having an out of body experience. She knew what she was doing was wrong, but she couldn’t stop herself. ‘God, help me. I’m really loosing it now.’ Abigail screamed deep inside.

“Damn it Abigail. You know Dr. Steep said it would take a few days to work. Give it a chance.” Kevin said angrily. It didn’t take much for him to loose his temper, and Abigail was pushing him dangerously close to the edge.

“Go to your fucking interview. I need some time alone.” Abigail said.

Abigail’s words stung as Kevin silently left the room. He needed to find the other guys to say that he wasn’t going to be able to make it to the interview. No matter how inappropriate Abigail was acting, he knew it wasn’t her fault and he needed to stay with her to ensure that she didn’t hurt herself. He could never forgive himself if anything happened to her while she was in his care.

“Come on Kev, we need to get going.” Brian said when he saw Kevin finally emerge from the elevator.

“You guys go ahead without me. Abigail’s having a rough morning and I don’t want to leave her alone.” Kevin said.

“Just bring her with us.” Brian said, knowing that his suspicions had been confirmed. Bringing Abigail on tour had been a mistake.

“She isn’t in any shape to go anywhere. I’m sorry guys.” Kevin said as he turned around to go back up to his room. He wasn’t in the mood to deal with Brian’s skeptical attitude and knew it was best just to walk away. As the elevator doors closed, he was surprised to see that Carlos had joined him.

“I’ll stay behind in case you need me boss.” Carlos said.

‘Thanks.” Kevin said, but he remained silent for the remainder of the ride.

“I’ll be in my room if you need me.” Carlos said as he watched Kevin disappear into his room.

Kevin was relieved to see that Abigail was still in bed and the room remained untouched. He moved quickly to clean up the broken glass and discard it in the garbage. He wasn’t sure if he should talk to Dr. Steep before he attempted to talk to Abigail again. He had no experience dealing with someone in this emotional state and had no idea how to proceed without making the situation worse.

Abigail watched as Kevin moved around the room. She knew he hadn’t gone to the interview and she felt guilty, but she remained in bed and tried to figure out what had happened just a few minutes earlier. She definitely needed to talk to Dr. Steep about what was happening. The unpredictable behavior scared her more than the panic attack she had in the elevator. She started to cry as she thought about everything that was unfolding around her. She wanted to apologize to Kevin, but she was too embarrassed.

As Kevin moved around the room as quietly as possible, he couldn’t miss the quiet sobs coming from Abigail. His heart reached out to her, and any anger he felt earlier disappeared in that instant. He sat down on Abigail’s side of the bed and said softly, “Are you ready to talk?”

“Just hold me Kevin. I feel like I’m loosing control.” Abigail replied.

Kevin crawled into bed beside Abigail and took her in his arms. “Do you want to tell me what happened?” Kevin asked.

“It was almost like an out of body experience. I knew exactly what I was doing and saying, but I couldn’t stop myself. It almost felt like I was trapped.” Abigail explained.

“Can I convince you to take your medication now?” Kevin asked.

“Yes. I know I need to take it and give it some time to work. I’m sorry I made you miss the interview this morning.” Abigail said.

“It’s all right. I’m not angry or upset with you. But you will need to talk to Dr. Steep about this. I can’t have this happening every time I have to go somewhere.” Kevin said.

“I know. I want all these feelings to go away. I just want to be able to enjoy the time that we spend together and not worry about when I’m going to go crazy. I promise you I am trying to get better.” Abigail said.

“I know you are and I’m proud of the progress that you’re making. This is just another thing we need to work on. We can make it through this together. I love you Abigail and I’m determined to see you through this.” Kevin said.
