The
following morning, Kevin woke up on his own just after ten. He
felt content when he felt Abigail’s body pressed against his
back and found his thoughts drifting back to the incredibly
intimate night they both shared together. His body began to
react and he began to crave Abigail’s touch once again. She
was so intoxicating and he just couldn’t get enough of her.
Kevin
lazily rolled over and a small smile crept across his face as he
watched Abigail pull the covers up over her head to block the
sunlight. They forgot to close the drapes the night before and
the sunlight was blinding. Kevin crawled out of bed and made his
way over to the window and quickly closed the drapes.
Fortunately they were high enough up that the fans down below
weren’t able to see him in a naked state.
As
soon as Kevin closed the drapes, Abigail pulled the covers back
down and whistled, “Cute ass.”
“Sexy
breast.” Kevin proclaimed as he got back into bed and attacked
the bare breast that was peaking out from under the blanket.
“With
everything I like on you, we could keep this up all day.”
Abigail said as she laughed.
“The
other guys may not appreciate hearing about it all day.” Kevin
said after he blew lightly on Abigail’s wet nipple.
“You’re
wicked. Didn’t you get enough last night?” Abigail asked as
Kevin pushed back the comforter and took possession of her other
breast.
“I’ll
never be able to get enough of you.” Kevin said as he
continued his attack on Abigail’s body. Just as he dipped his
finger between her legs, the telephone rang. He looked at the
time and cursed, because he knew he couldn’t ignore the call.
“I promise you we’ll pick up where we left off.” Kevin
said as he reached across Abigail and picked up the phone.
Kevin
was expecting a call from their management team, so he was
surprised when it was a male voice asking for Alison Summers.
This immediately made him suspicious, because he knew
immediately it was someone from her past. “Who’s calling?”
Kevin inquired.
“This
is Alison’s grandfather calling. It’s taken me three days to
track my granddaughter down. Please tell me that I’ve found
her.” The older man pleaded.
“She’s
not available at the moment, but I can take down your name and
number and I’ll ensure that she gets your message.” Kevin
said. There was no way Kevin was going to force Abigail to talk
to someone from her past. If this man was legitimately her
grandfather, then Abigail could make the choice to contact him.
Kevin got out of bed and found a pad of paper on the desk at the
other side of the hotel room. He jotted down the information the
older man recited on the phone and promised the man that he
would pass the message on. Kevin hung up the phone and just
stood there staring at the message for a couple of seconds.
“Who
was that?” Abigail asked, sensing Kevin’s tension.
“It’s
not important right now. Let’s pick up where we left off.”
Kevin said. He wasn’t ready to burden Abigail with this
information just yet.
Abigail
could sense Kevin’s apprehension, so she went along with him.
But after a couple minutes, Abigail could tell that Kevin was
distracted. She managed to slip away from Kevin and get out of
bed. “Abigail, please don’t look at that right now.” Kevin
pleaded as Abigail picked up the small pad and read the message
and he watched all the color drain from her face. “Come here
Abi.” Kevin said as gently as possible.
Abigail
turned to face Kevin and said, “I haven’t spoken to my
grandparents since my parents died. Why would they be trying to
contact me now?” Abigail said.
“Please
come back to bed Abi. I knew this would be upsetting to you. I
hope you’re not upset with me because I tried to divert you
from reading the message.” Kevin said.
Abigail
gladly got back into bed and let Kevin take her in his strong
arms. “I wish I could make the message go away.” Abigail
said as she buried her face in Kevin’s neck. Just as they were
moving forward with their lives, Abigail’s past continued to
haunt them. She had no real desire to contact her grandparents.
They never did anything for her after her parents died, so she
didn’t feel like she owed them anything now.
“Do
you want to talk about it?” Kevin asked softly.
“There’s
nothing to talk about. They haven’t been a part of my life
since my parents died.” Abigail responded harshly.
“Just
know that if you ever want to talk Abi, I’m always here for
you. You don’t have to go through anything alone anymore.”
Kevin said, hoping it would help calm Abigail down.
*************************
Kevin
and the group had a meeting mid afternoon before they left for
the venue, so that left Abigail alone in their room. She was
still upset about the phone call from her grandfather, but Kevin
had picked up where he left off when they received the phone
call, and that helped Abigail push it out of her mind.
Abigail
was just getting out of the shower when the telephone rang.
Kevin told her that he would call as soon as their meeting was
over and let her know what time they were leaving for the venue.
Abigail was dumbfounded when she picked up the phone and she
heard her grandfather say, “Alison sweetie, is that you?”
“Granddad,
why are you calling?” Abigail asked in a flat voice.
“You
don’t sound like you’re happy to hear from me.” Her
grandfather stated.
“I
wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that this is the
first time I’ve heard from you since mom and dad’s
funeral.” Abigail replied harshly.
“We
just didn’t know what to say to you sweetie. That doesn’t
mean we don’t love you.” Her grandfather said.
“I
don’t have the time to get into all of this now. What is your
reason for calling?” Abigail asked again.
“Your
grandmother’s health is failing.” He said.
“I’m
sorry to hear that, but after everything I suffered through
alone, do you really expect me to drop everything and run to her
side? You two were the only family I had and you never once
contacted me after I married Frank or after I was convicted of
murdering Frank. I have a new life now and I’m trying my best
to move forward. I’m not sure I’m willing to go back to
Alison’s life.” Abigail said.
“I’m
not sure what you’re talking about. You are Alison Summers and
we are your family.” Her grandfather said.
“No,
I’m Abigail Phillips now. Alison Summers is a part of my
past.” Abigail said as she felt Kevin’s strong arms envelope
her. She was extremely grateful for Kevin’s presence because
she was close to loosing it. All she wanted was for her past to
leave her alone.
“How
can you possibly say that you don’t care that your grandmother
is dying? She’s asking to see you.” Her grandfather said,
trying to make her feel guilty.
Abigail
passed the phone to Kevin and said, “I can’t take it.” And
ran towards the bathroom.
Kevin
quickly hung up the phone and ran after Abigail. Unfortunately
he wasn’t able to reach her before she locked the bathroom
door. “Come on Abi. Don’t shut me out like this. You know
I’m on your side. You’re not in this alone.” Kevin pleaded
with Abigail to let him in as the telephone began to ring again.
“Tell
him to fuck off.” Abigail yelled from within the bathroom.
“I’m
not even answering the phone Abi. I don’t give a shit about
your grandfather right now. I’m only concerned about you.”
Kevin said. After almost a minute of silence, Kevin spoke again,
“I know you don’t want to be alone right now Abi. Please let
me be there for you.”
Abigail
slumped to the floor. She didn’t have the energy to even get
up and open the door for Kevin. Why was her grandfather trying
to make her feel guilty? ‘They’ve never done anything for
me, so where does he get off making me feel guilty for not being
by my grandmothers side?’ Abigail said to herself as she broke
down sobbing.
As
soon as Kevin heard Abigail’s sobs, he quickly searched for
something that would enable him to unlock the bathroom door. He
just needed something with a flat edge. He finally found the
Swiss army knife Abigail kept in her suitcase and after a few
seconds he had the bathroom door unlocked. He swiftly picked
Abigail up from the floor and carried her to the bed when there
was a knock at the door. He cursed when he heart Brian yell that
it was time to leave for the venue. Kevin opened the door and
let Brian into the room. They had learnt the hard way that they
never discussed personal issues in the hall of a hotel.
“Where’s
Abi? We need to get going.” Brian said.
“I’m
gonna have to meet you guys over there in an hour or so. Abi
received a phone call today that she’s upset about. I want to
stay here with her for a little while until she calms down a
bit.” Kevin said.
“It
doesn’t have to do with Frank does it?” Brian asked.
“No.
Actually it’s her grandfather. But I don’t think I should
get into it anymore. I’ll see you guys at the venue in a
little while.” Kevin said.
Kevin
was able to calm Abigail down and convinced her to accompany him
to the venue. She didn’t feel like being alone and he didn’t
want to risk her receiving a another phone call from her
grandfather.
