The Secrets Trilogy: Part 2 - Lying To Protect

Chapter 7

Once Kevin got out on stage that night, the uneasiness he was feeling earlier in the night dissipated and adrenaline and enthusiasm took over. No matter how tedious their work got, he didn’t think he would ever tire of performing in front of thousands of adoring fans.

Jordyn was disappointed with her seats in the front row. She would have to have a word with her broker, as he promised her she’d be front row center, when in reality her seats were off to one side. She hoped Kevin would cover the stage evenly that but, but if all else failed, she would just have to get his attention after the concert, she thought to herself.

Kevin had indeed spotted Jordyn sitting in the front row early on in the show and decided that he’d have to stay away from that side of the stage as much as possible. He concentrated his attention on a group of 4 women that were in the center that were obviously huge fans of his. He would make four fans extremely happy that night and they would help get his mind off of Jordyn. Everyone won in the end, or so Kevin thought.

After a lengthy swim, Abigail decided that she was going to go the concert after all. Due to traffic around the venue, she didn’t make it until after the boys were on stage, so she decided to remain backstage and surprise Kevin when he came down for his first costume change. She winked at one of their wardrobe people as she entered Kevin’s changing area. The heard the last song of the first set start and she knew it would just be a minute or two before Kevin was in here to change. And she was right on the mark when Kevin rushed into the dressing room a few short minutes later. She could tell she startled him when she said, “Hey sexy!”

Kevin jumped when he heard a female voice. He should have known it was Abigail, but for some strange reason Jordyn had him on edge tonight. “Jesus Christ Abi. You scared the shit out of me.” Kevin said.

“Sorry sweetie. I just wanted to surprise you.” Abigail said, noting the tension on Kevin’s face.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that you’re here, but next time give me a little more warning.” Kevin said.

“Sorry Kevin. I’ll wait outside for you.” Abigail said, sensing she’d used bad judgment.

Kevin watched as he disappointed figure left the small changing room. ‘Damn it! I didn’t mean to snap at her like that.’ Kevin said to himself as he changed quickly. The truth was that he was relieved that Abigail was there.

When he emerged from the changing room a moment later, he found Abigail seated on one of the wardrobe boxes. The other guys were just finishing up the song and he only had a few seconds before he had to be back out on stage. He quickly ran over to her and said, “I’m sorry I snapped at you. I’m just so focused when we’re performing and you scared me. I’m glad you’re here, so why don’t you get your sexy butt out to your seat and watch the rest of the show. You know how much I love seeing your face in the crowd.” Kevin said.

“I’m sorry too. I’ll see you out there.” Abigail said as she smiled and kissed Kevin quickly. She could sense the genuine concern in Kevin’s eyes and knew that he was being honest. She followed Carlos as he escorted her to her seat. She smiled when Kevin made a point of mentioning her by name during his introduction and thank-you.

What neither of them knew was that Jordyn was becoming angrier by the moment. Her plan would be a lot harder to execute now with Abigail’s presence, but she was determined to initiate the first step before the night was over.

Kevin entered his dressing room quickly that night. He was anxious to get back to the hotel and spend the rest of the night with Abigail, so he decided to wait and shower when they got back to the hotel. Kevin was just about to rush out of the room when a note taped to his mirror caught his attention. It was probably just another note given to Carlos, but he decided to check it out.

Hello Kevin,

I was so disappointed to hear that you recovered from your injury. You didn’t think that I would actually let you and Abigail live happily ever after did you?

You two have ruined my life and I intend on making you pay.

I know you’ve all ready met my good friend Jordyn. I expect you to meet Jordyn at the hotel gym at midnight tonight.

If you care for Abigail as much as I think you do, you’ll be there tonight.

Your friend,

Frank

“Damn it! I knew she was bad news.” Kevin said as he folded the note and placed it in his pocket. There was no way he was going to let this Jordyn chick or Frank get away with this. He had no idea what they were up to, but he wasn’t going to let them away with it. He loved Abigail and he wasn’t going to start keeping things from her.

“You ready to go Kevin?” Abigail said as she popped her head into his dressing room.

“Sure am. Let’s get outta here.” Kevin said as he grabbed his bag and ran to catch up to Abigail. By the time they made it into the van and were on their way back to the hotel, Kevin had forgotten all about Jordyn and the note from Frank..

*************************

It was now 12:15am and Jordyn was angry. “I guess I didn’t make myself clear enough Kevin. No one stands me up.” Jordyn said as she slammed her fist against the wall.

“Is there a problem here miss?” someone from the hotel asked.

“Not at all.” Jordyn replied, startled by the sudden appearance by hotel staff.

“Fine then. I’ll have to ask you to move along then. The gym closed at midnight.” The man said.

Jordyn wasn’t happy, but she moved from the room. She decided she had better just head back to her room. “You got away from me tonight Richardson, but I won’t let that happen again. No body stands me up.” Jordyn said as the elevator doors closed.
