Chapter 7

Kevin opened the boys' bedroom door to hear giggles coming from underneath the covers. "What's up guys?" Kevin asked as he leaned against the doorframe. 

"Nothing dad." Steven said as both Steven and Nick peaked their heads out from underneath the covers. 

"I saw you guys downstairs just a few minutes ago." Kevin said. 

"Are we in trouble?" Nick asked apprehensively. 

"No not at all." Kevin said as he sat down on Nick's bed. "Do you understand what Mommy and I were doing?" Kevin asked both his sons. 

"Are you and Mommy trying to have another baby?" Steven asked. 

"No Steven, we're not. Mommy and I were just expressing how much we love each other." Kevin replied. 

"It almost sounded like you were hurting Mommy." Nick said. 

"Trust me Nick. What Mommy and I were doing felt very good! I was not hurting your mother in any way." Kevin said. 

"Does this mean that everything is fine between Mommy and you?" Nick asked. 

"We're working on it. It isn't always easy for Mommies and Daddies to keep each other happy. But we're trying." Kevin explained. 

"Did you guys talk about the vacation?" Steven asked. 

"How about we talk about it at dinner tomorrow night?" Kevin said as he gave both Nick and Steven a hug and tucked them into bed. "Now get some sleep guys, or your mother will ring my neck for keeping you guys up late." Kevin said. 

"Night dad." Both Steven and Nick said simultaneously as Kevin closed their bedroom door. Kevin reluctantly walked down the hall to the master bedroom. 

"How did it go?" Nicole asked as Kevin started to get undressed. 

"It was actually kinda funny. They thought we were trying for another baby." Kevin said. 

Nicole got out of bed and walked towards her husband. "That's not a bad idea you know." Nicole said as she let her hands caress Kevin's chest. 

"Let's not take this too fast Nicole. We still have a long way to go before we are ready to bring another member into this family." Kevin said. 

"So what did you say to them?" Nicole asked as she walked towards the bed again. 

"I told them that we were just expressing how much we love each other. I never realized how much our behavior was affecting them." Kevin said. 

"That's more incentive to try and make this work." Nicole said. 

"I think tonight was a good start." Kevin said as he walked into the bathroom to take a shower. Nicole turned on the TV. She wanted to wait for Kevin to come to bed. More than anything else, she wanted to fall asleep in Kevin's arms.
