A Lost Past - Part 2

Kevin sat with Laura and held her in his arms until she started to calm down. Kevin was extremely concerned about her now. What could have happened to her that would make her loose her memory? He would let her sleep tonight, but he was going to take her to the hospital first thing in the morning. Laura did not say a word as she laid down on the bed. Kevin covered her with a blanket and stayed with her until she was asleep.

The next morning, when Kevin got up, Laura was still asleep. So he left a note for her telling her he was down at breakfast and he would bring something back for her. Kevin pulled A.J. aside and told him what happened the previous night in his room. A.J. agreed that Laura needed to see a doctor, and told Kevin he would go with him. Kevin and A.J. explained what happened to the other guys and Brian said he wanted to come along as well. So after breakfast, they brought Laura some breakfast. When they entered the room, she was sitting up in bed, watching television. Laura still did not say anything, she just sat there and looked at them.

Kevin put the tray down on the small table in the room and said, "Are you hungry Laura. I brought you some breakfast."

Laura started to get out of bed, but it hurt to much to get up. The guys all rushed to her side to see if she was all right. "I don't know why I hurt so much." was all Laura said.

Kevin looked at the other guys and said, "Laura we all think that we should take you to the hospital." Kevin said as he sat down beside her on the bed.

"Do you remember what happened last night?" Kevin asked.

Laura had a look of terror on her face when Kevin asked that question. "I don't want to talk about it." Laura replied quickly.

"That's fine, but we still would like to take you to the hospital." Brian said as he sat on the other side of her..

"I'm not gonna get out of this, now am I?" Laura said looking at all three guys.

"No you are not." Kevin said.

The three guys helped her get out of bed and gain her balance. She knew they would find out what happened sooner or later, but she wasn't ready to actually say the words 'rape'. She was still hoping it was all a bad dream.

Two hours later, the doctor emerged from the examining room and sat down with Kevin, A.J. and Brian. "So she didn't tell you what happened?" The doctor asked.

"No. She did not want to talk about it earlier when we asked." Kevin replied.

"Well, we did a complete examination and we discovered that she has been raped within the past 24 hours." The doctor said delicately.

"RAPED!" Kevin yelled. A.J. and Brian quickly jumped and tried to calm Kevin down.

"Look Kevin, getting all upset is not going to help Laura right now. She obviously needs us right now." A.J. said.

"What about her memory loss?" Kevin asked as he sat back down.

"Hopefully it is just temporary, but she does have a fairly severe bump on her head. She has a bit of a concussion, so we would like to keep her here for a few hours to monitor her. If everything is okay, I anticipate she will be released later this afternoon. It is very difficult to tell whether the memory loss will be temporary or permanent." The doctor said. "Now if you will excuse me, I have other patients to see. I will check back in with Laura in an hour or so. You guys can go in and see her now if you like."

The guys just sat there speechless for a few minutes. None of them understood how a guy could do this to a woman. Finally Kevin got up and said, "Are you guys coming?"

"Yah, yah. We're right behind you Kev." Brian said as he got up out of his seat.

When they entered her room, it looked like she was sleeping. But when the door closed behind them, she heard it and opened her eyes. The guys could see that she had been crying. Kevin didn't say anything he just walked over to her and put his arms around her. He wasn't sure why he why he felt so drawn to this girl, but he realized that right now they were the only people she really could rely on.  Kevin started to get up and said, "We have to leave for a little while."

Laura managed to say, "don't leave."

"It's okay Laura. We are just leaving for a few hours. We will be back to get you later." Kevin said hoping Laura would believe him. "Here is my cell-phone number if you need to get in touch with me okay." Kevin said, trying to reassure her that he would be back for her.

Laura nodded her head and laid back down in the bed. They all said goodbye and started to walk out of the room. When A.J. and Brian had left the room, Kevin turned around and said, "I hope you believe I will be back Laura. I hate leaving you here feeling alone."

"I believe you." Laura said quietly. Kevin quickly grabbed Laura's hand and gave it a light squeeze and ran out the door.
