Chapter 2
Laura slowly dragged herself out of bed the next morning. She didnt start her new position until the next week, and was enjoying the vacation time. She was going out to look at 2 apartments that afternoon that she was seriously considering. It would still be a few weeks before she could move into either one, but she just wanted to get the decision out of the way.
Gloria was on her as soon as she walked into the kitchen. "Morning Laura. I figured out where I knew that Kevin guy from. Why didnt you tell me you knew a Backstreet Boy?" Gloria asked, trying to remain calm.
"Its a long story Gloria. I knew him before he was a Backstreet Boy." Laura said, suspecting that Gloria was not going to leave this alone.
"I have all the time in the world." Gloria said as she sat down with her coffee.
"There isnt much to say Gloria. We dated for a few years and we broke up because we both had different goals and dreams. I am really happy that things worked out for him." Laura said, trying to brush it all off.
"And how long did you guys date for?" Gloria questioned.
"A little over three years." Laura answered in between sips of coffee.
"I want details woman!" Gloria said rather loudly.
"I am not one to kiss and tell Gloria. I respect Kevins privacy, and I think it would be best if I didnt talk about it." Laura said, hoping Gloria would drop it.
"Ok, ok. I guess I have to respect that. But anytime you want to talk, you know I am here for you." Gloria stated as she walked towards her bedroom.
A few hours later, Laura was walking around a beautiful condo. It was a little more than what she had wanted, but she fell in love with it the second she saw it. She set up an appointment for the next afternoon to sign all the paperwork. It would work out perfectly. On her way back to Glorias place, she timed how long it would take her to get to work. She figured, in rush hour traffic it would take her about 20 minutes to get there.
On her way back to Glorias place, she heard "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys. Since seeing Kevin the night before, she had not been able to get him out of her mind. She had a few relationships after breaking up with Kevin, but none were as meaningful. Letting Kevin go was one of the most difficult things she had ever had to do, and seeing him all of a sudden brought back a lot of old feelings. Just at that moment she regretted telling him it was best they didnt see each other again.
The phone rang, interrupting her thoughts. Fortunately she had just pulled into the parking lot of Glorias apartment. She grabbed the phone out of her purse, and answered it.
"Hey Laura, its Gloria. I was wondering if you could do me another favor?" Gloria asked.
"I am not going to get on stage and sing again tonight." Laura said, remembering how she felt when she found out that Kevin had heard her sing.
"No, I think we are okay in that department tonight. But one of the waitresses called in sick today. I am run off my feet here and could really use a hand." Gloria pleaded.
"Ok, I am just on my way up to the apartment. Give me a few minutes to change and I will be in to give you a hand in about half an hour." Laura said as she the elevator doors closed.
"Youre a lifesaver Laura! I owe you one." Gloria said as she hung up the phone.
