Chapter 3

Gloria brought Kevin another coke, and said, "She should be here in half an hour. She better not kill me for doing this."

"I hope she will be thanking you one day." Kevin said as he paid Gloria for the drink.

Kevin sat back and tried to calm his nerves. Ever since seeing Laura the night before, he could not get her out of his mind. Leaving her behind was one of his biggest regrets in life. He had everything he had ever dreamed of, except someone special to share it with.

Kevin pulled out some papers that he had to read over before practice the next day, to try and pass some time.

A little while later, Laura walked in through the employee entrance, and found Gloria in the kitchen. "Just remember Gloria, you owe me for this." Laura said as she put on a small apron.

"You know how much I appreciate this. Just let me get this food to the customers and I will give you a quick rundown of what is going on" Gloria said as she walked out of the kitchen balancing 3 plates of food.

Laura took a seat at the bar, waiting for Gloria to come back.

"Ok, sorry about that Laura. It would be a huge help if you could look after this side of the room." Gloria said as she pointed to one side of the club. "Just basically take the orders, make sure you give them to the kitchen or bar right away, and try to serve them as quickly as possible. If you need a hand with the billing system, just give me a holler." Gloria finished.

Laura took a deep breath and took a look around the restaurant. She noticed a couple with empty plates and headed over to the table. She cleared the table and within a few minutes had figured out enough to have the bill on their table. She seated people at 3 tables and took their orders. She noticed a man sitting by himself in a table in the corner, and went over to check on him. As soon as she stopped at the table, she understood what this was all about. "Well Kevin, could you have something to do with me being here?" Laura asked with her hands on her hips.

Kevin looked up with a small grin on his face, and said, "I could have."

"I don’t believe you." Laura said as she started to walk away.

Kevin stood up and said, "No wait Laura. Let me explain."

Laura stopped and turned to face Kevin. "I thought we had decided it would be best not to see each other." Laura said.

"Please sit down for a minute." Kevin said. He watched Laura sit, and continued, "I did come in to talk to your friend Gloria. She had mentioned that you had told her that we had dated at one time, but did not give her a lot of details. I didn’t tell her anything more, I just asked her how I could get in touch with you. So she came up with this idea. I wasn’t about to tell her not to do it." Kevin said.

"What am I gonna do with her." Laura joked.

"Don’t be upset at her Laura." Kevin pleaded.

"Well you have me here now." Laura said sitting back in the chair.

"Well I do have the rest of the afternoon off. What do you say we just hang out together." Kevin said.

Laura looked up and say Gloria headed in their direction. "So I see you two bumped into each other again." Gloria said with a sly smile on her face.

"Yes, and I see you conveniently got me here so we would just happen to bump into each other. Kevin is a very honest person, and told me about your little plan." Laura said.

"Ah, so you found me out. I saw the gleam in your eyes this morning when you were talking about him. How could I just let him walk away when he came back here looking for you." Gloria said.

"Well you will be happy to know that I have agreed to spend some time with Kevin this afternoon." Laura said, answering Kevin’s question.

"Glad to hear that. Now if you don’t mind, I have a few customers waiting for a table." Gloria said, urging them to get on their way.

"Feel the love." Laura said as she removed the apron and handed it over to Gloria. "Don’t wait up." Laura teased as she walked out with Kevin.

Kevin followed Laura to Gloria’s apartment so she could drop off her car. Laura leaned up against the car as she said, "So, you’re the one that wanted to hang out this afternoon. Do you have any idea what you want to do?"

"I was thinking we could just hang out at my place. If you bring your bathing suit, we can spend sometime in the pool. Maybe rent a few movies, order Chinese Food for dinner." Kevin proposed.

"You don’t forget easily do you. You know I cannot resist swimming or Chinese food. Give me a few minutes to run upstairs and grab my bathing suit." Laura said as she started to walk towards the apartment building.

Kevin followed closely behind Laura, and was relieved that she had not rejected his suggestion.
