Chapter 5
"I had a great time tonight Kevin!" Laura said as they stopped in front of Gloria’s apartment door.
"So did I Laura. So I will pick you up at 3 tomorrow so we can go take a look at the condo that you found" Kevin said.
"Sounds good. I can’t wait for you to see the place." Laura said.
"I’m sure it is a great place!" Kevin said.
‘Well I had better head in. Gloria is probably waiting up for a report." Laura said with a smile.
"Say hi to her for me." Kevin said before he kissed Laura. "Good night Laura." Kevin said as he turned to leave.
Laura unlocked the door, and leaned up against it as soon as she closed it and sighed.
"So what is that sigh all about?" Gloria asked as she peeked her head around the corner.
"Nothing." Laura said as she took her shoes off.
"That one is not gonna work on me girlfriend! You had a good time with him today didn’t you?" Gloria asked.
"I should know by now I can’t hide anything from you. Yes we had a good time together today." Laura answered as she walked towards the kitchen to get herself a drink.
"So what did you two do?" Gloria pushed for more details.
"We just went back to his place. Did some swimming, had some dinner and watched a few movies." Laura said, not getting into any more detail.
"So when are you seeing each other again?" Gloria enquired.
"I am taking him to see the Condo tomorrow afternoon." Laura answered.
Gloria embraced Laura in a hug, and said, "I am so happy for you!"
"Yes I must admit, I am pretty happy myself Gloria. " Laura said with a smile.
"So you are not upset with me for tricking you this afternoon." Gloria asked.
Laura put her hands on her hips and said, "No I am not upset Gloria."
"Glad to hear that. So are you going to tell me all the details or am I going to have to drag them out of you?" Gloria joked.
"What kind of details do you want?" Laura asked.
"How did you guys meet, why did you break up. You know – basically everything. No stone left unturned." Gloria said.
"Gee you don’t ask for much do you." Laura kidded.
Laura and Gloria got comfortable on the couch and Laura started to tell Gloria about how her relationship with Kevin started. Laura was in one grade 10 and Kevin was in grade 11 when they met. Laura was new to Lexington, Kentucky and met Kevin on her first day at school. Kevin was late for class that morning, and the only seat left in the class, was beside Laura. Laura assumed that he was a jock, and that he would have the personality and attitude as well. But she was pleasantly surprised when Kevin introduced himself and offered to introduce her to some people at lunchtime. That day at lunch, Kevin did just that. He found Laura at her locker and showed her where the cafeteria was. Laura was nervous as they walked up to a table full of guys and girls. To her surprise once again, everyone seemed extremely nice, and they all welcomed her into their group.
After a few weeks, Laura fit right in and felt like she had known these people all her life. She formed an instant bond with two people, Kevin of course and her best friend of all times, Andrea. Approximately a month after school started, there was a party to celebrate Kevin’s birthday. It seemed like the whole school was invited. Kevin was one of those people that got along with everyone. It was that night when things changed between Laura and Kevin. They were what seemed like the only two people that were not drinking, and spent a lot of time together that night. They shared their first kiss that night, and from that night on they were inseparable.
Their relationship lasted for three great years. Laura was there when Kevin graduated from high school, and they started talking about the future in more detail. About a month after Kevin graduated, Kevin had proposed marriage. They agreed to a long engagement because Laura had plans on going to college, and Kevin respected that. But something changed about a year after they made that decision. Kevin’s dream of making it as a singer had grown, and they both knew that his dreams would never come true in Lexington, Kentucky. After a very intense and emotional month, Laura had told Kevin that if he wanted to follow his dream, she was not going to hold him back. The next morning, Kevin stopped by to see her on his way out of town. He thanked her for understanding and promised that he would keep in touch. Laura simply just told him to go after his dream and not worry about her. Much to her surprise and disappointment, this is what Kevin did.
Laura sat there in a daze when she finished, and wiped the tears away. She hadn’t thought about all of this for a long time. "So there you have it. The life story of Kevin and I." Laura said.
"Wow, you really did love him didn’t you." Gloria stated.
"Yes I did love him, and it only took one afternoon for all those feelings to come flooding back." Laura said.
"So did you and Kevin talk about getting back together?" Gloria asked?
"Yes we did. We both agreed that it was something we wanted, and we would see what happened." Laura said.
"Well I am sure everything will work out." Gloria said as she patted Laura on the shoulder.
"I sure hope it does Gloria. I am not sure I can handle having my heart broken again." Laura said as she stood up and walked to her room.
