Chapter 7
Laura did not get to see much of Kevin over the next few days, since he was busy with rehearsals. He did call her whenever he had few minutes. That was when Laura realized things could never be the same between her and Kevin. She wondered to herself if it would work between the two of them.
It was as if Kevin knew what she was thinking, because just at that moment, the telephone rang. "Hey Laura, it's Kevin."
"Hey Kevin, are you a mind reader? I was just thinking about you." Laura responded.
"Oh really, good thoughts I hope." Kevin said.
"Always! So are you on a quick break?" Laura asked.
"Actually, we finished up a little early today, and I am on my way over." Kevin said.
Laura glanced at her watch and was a little disappointed that it read 10pm. "You call this early." Laura said lightly.
"I won't stay for long I promise. I just need to see you." Kevin responded.
"Ok then. See you when you get here." Laura said as she hung up the phone. She threw a robe on over her nightgown, and grabbed herself a glass of milk. Just as she took her first sip, there was a knock at the door.
She rushed to the door, and couldn't help but smile when she saw Kevin looking down at her. "Hey stranger, come on in." Laura said as she stepped to the side.
"I haven't been that much of a stranger, now have I?" Kevin asked.
"Not anymore." Laura said as Kevin wrapped his arms around Laura's waist. "Now keep in mind Kevin, I do have to be up early tomorrow morning since it is my first day at work." Laura reminded Kevin.
"Yes I remembered that. Are you nervous?" Kevin asked.
"A little. I am sure it will be worse in the morning." Laura said.
"Well I could always stay the night, and be here with you in the morning." Kevin said with a raised eyebrow.
"But don't you have to be out the door earlier than I do?" Laura questioned.
"Not tomorrow. They are giving us a bit of a break. I don't have to be there until 10am tomorrow morning." Kevin said as he placed a light kiss on Laura's forehead.
"Well in that case, I think I will take you up on your offer." Laura said as she snaked her arms around Kevin's neck. "You look pretty beat, maybe we should go straight to bed." Laura suggested.
"Yeah they have been working is pretty hard the past few days. If you don't mind I think I will take a quick shower, and then join you in bed." Kevin said.
"Fine with me. I will get you some towels." Laura said as they walked down the hall. She handed Kevin the towels, and he tried to convince Laura to join him, but she simply told him she would be waiting for him when he was done.
Kevin rushed through his shower, and was a little disappointed when he found Laura fast asleep once he returned to her room. He lightly placed a kiss on her cheek, and quietly climbed into the bed, trying not to disturb her. He must have woken her slightly, because she rolled over and moaned as soon as he took her in his arms. He sighed and realized just how content he was to have her in his arms. He wondered if he had found the one thing that was missing from his life. He silently prayed he had, as he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.
