Prologue
Laura looked through the curtains and wondered to herself if she could really pull this off. She had a few minutes before she went on stage, and remembered how she had gotten herself into this.
One of her best friends for many years, Gloria, owned a great little club in downtown Orlando called Shooters. Laura had just moved to Orlando from New York City, and spent a few weeks with Gloria, while she got settled in her job, and found a place to stay.
A few days before, Laura was doing some laundry and singing her favorite song. She didn't realize that Gloria was home and was listening to her. Later that night while they were having dinner together, Gloria confronted Laura and told her that she had a beautiful voice. Laura just brushed it off and that was the end of the discussion.
Well, Laura thought it was the end of the discussion. A few days later, Gloria called Laura at work in a little bit of a panic. She explained that the group she had hired to perform that night, had backed out because one of their lead singers was sick. Laura didn't understand why Gloria was telling her all of this, until she came right out and asked Laura if she would fill in and sing a few songs for her that night.
Here she was, later that same day, preparing to do exactly what Gloria had asked her to. She would go out and sing a total of six songs, with a half hour intermission in the middle. Gloria wrote songs herself and let Laura choose 5 songs to sing. With just 2 hours of preparation Laura hoped she was prepared. The sixth song Laura chose to sing, was a song that was very dear to her. It was a song called "Back To Your Heart" by the Backstreet Boys. She didn't think anyone would recognize it, since their third album had not been released yet. Laura never told anyone why the song meant so much to her, she decided to keep it as her little secret. Plus she never thought anyone would believe her any ways.
Laura was just singing the final note on the fifth song. She surprised herself, because she actually was pleased with her performance, and she could tell by the smile on Gloria's face, that she was equally pleased.
She took a deep breath as the music for "Back To Your Heart" started. She closed her eyes and sang with such emotion.
