Chapter 1
"What do you mean our flight was over booked?" Candace asked the lady behind the counter, "How could that possibly be?"
"I sincerely apologize ma'am," the lady said politely, "but we would be happy to put you in the first available flight to Las Vegas."
Seeing that her friend was about to explode, Terah took over, "Well, when exactly would that be?"
As the airline employee typed away at the computer, Candace impatiently ran her fingers through her short blonde hair. "The next flight with two available seats will be tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.," she told the two girls.
Terah immediately looked at Candace and held her hand up as to stop her from exploding, or as they jokingly referred to it as torreting. "But ma'am," Terah tried to explain calmly, "my friend and I have to be in Vegas by tomorrow afternoon, 12:00 to be exact."
"Yeah," Candace added still trying not to loose her cool, "we are going to the VH1 Fairway to Heaven golf tournament, and the Backstreet Boys concert at the MGM Grand Arena. So that means that we can't wait until 10:00 am!"
Looking very sympathetic the lady just
replied, "We can put you on standby, but unfortunately, that is all that we
can do. I am very sorry about the inconvenience."
Candace just rolled her eyes and walked away as Terah gave
their information to the attendant. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the
lady that was behind them was giving her a concerned look.
Terah finally came over to where Candace was sitting by now. "She said that we could just hang out here until something comes open," she told Candace, "or they would put us up in a hotel for the evening."
Still upset, Candace looked over at the
lady that had just been watching her over by the counter. "Terah,"
Candace asked, "does that lady over their look familiar at all to
you?"
"No," she answered giving a quick glance over to
where she was pointing.
A few minutes passed by as the two girls
sat in the Cincinnati Airport trying to decide what to do.
"Excuse me," they heard a voice say.
The two girls looked up and found the same lady they had just
noticed,
standing right in front of them. "Yes," Candace said a little puzzled,
"can I help you?
"Actually," the lady said kindly, "I think I
might be able to help you."
"Really?" Terah asked.
"Yes," the lady answered, still smiling, "I happened to overhear your predicament, and I... I wouldn't normally do this, but I am on my way to Las Vegas also and the rganization that I am with has chartered a private plane."
"We just happened to have a few extra seats available," she said, "my name is Denise by he way."
"Really," Candace agreed.
"It is no problem. I already let the guys know that we would have a couple of guests with us, and they said that it would be fine," Denise told them.
Candace and Terah were so overwhelmed that they barely remembered that they hadn't even introduced themselves, "I am Candace and this is my best friend Terah."
"It is very nice to meet the two of you," she said as she shook both of their hands.
"How will we ever be able to repay you?" Terah asked.
Denise just shook her head and answered
with a laugh, "No need, besides, you will probably be driven absolutely
crazy by the bunch that I travel with."
Candace and Terah just laughed as they began to gather their things together. Luckily they were able to retrieve their luggage from the other plane before it had taken off.
"So," Candace asked as they started to walk, " when do we leave?"
Denise looked at the clock that was on the airport wall, "Actually, we better hurry, the plane will be taking off in about fifteen minutes."
The three quickly made their way through the busy airport and just moments later Candace and Terah, along with Denise, stood outside of a private jet that looked like it could hold about fifty.
As they approached the plane they were greeted by a friendly-faced gentleman dressed in a Taylor made suit.
"What's this," the man asked as Denise came towards him holding her hand out to greet him, "pick up some strays while you were out?"
"Sort of," Denise laughed softly, "Rodney, This is Terah and Candace. They will be accompanying us to Las Vegas. Their flight was overbooked so I offered them a ride."
"Well," Rodney said taking the bags from the girls, "we are glad to have you with us. Let us know if the in flight entertainment gets to noisy."
Denise just laughed at the hidden joke, knowing that the girls would not quite understand the meaning of his statement, at least not until they were about to take off.
The two girls thanked Rodney for taking their bags and followed Denise onto the plane. They stayed close to Denise as they boarded the plane. They noticed that there were already quite a few people aboard. There were six girls and the rest were guys.
The inside of the plane was very roomy with large plush seats and lost of space to walk around. It was like one large first class section. Candace and Terah were both in awe.
"Is this okay?" Denise asked referring to seats near the front of the plane. They were about four rows from the front of the plane.
"This is perfect," Candace said as she placed her and Terah's bags in an overhead compartment. She then looked at Denise and asked, "How are we ever going to repay you for your kindness? You have done so much for us, and you don't even know us?"
"To tell you the truth," Denise said, "I have a son about your age and I have always taught him that you should help out people in trouble. So, what kind of mother would I be if I didn't practice what I preached."
"You are such an amazing woman," Candace said as she gave Denise a hug, "your son is very lucky to have you for his mother."
"I second that," Terah said,
also giving Denise a hug.
"Well, you two are sweethearts," Denise said as the
two girls sat down in their seats. If you girls need anything, I will be just a
few rows back. Just let me know."
"Thanks," they both said with smiles of gratitude.
Denise gave them a wink and head towards the back of the plane. About ¾ of the way back, their was a curtain separating the last few rows from the rest of the plane. They watched as Denise slipped behind the curtain. Candace figured that was where Denise's boss was sitting.
The two girls settled in, and began to wait for takeoff.
