Chapter Six

Friday night came, and Amanda was more than ready for a night out.  Her first week at work, while extremely interesting, had been stressful, what with negotiations with the referees and last minute contract negotiations.  But being around the game of
hockey made it all worthwhile.
She stood in front on her mirror smoothing out the folds of her new black velvet dress, making sure there wasn't something embarrassing happening like panty lines showing or her skirt tucked into the back of her pantyhose or something like that.  Her hair was done up into a French twist with just a few little curls here and there.   She was  wearing her favorite jewelry, her pearl necklace and matching earrings, and she gave herself a spritz of Cool Water Woman as she looked at herself critically in the mirror.
"Hmm makeup done-check.  Hair brushed-check.  Teeth brushed-check." She hoped she wasn't too dressed up, but Kevin had called later that last Saturday night to tell her to do exactly that-dress up.
"I hope he likes it," she said.
Right then she heard a knock on the door.
"Coming!" she called out.
She opened the door to see Kevin standing there with a bouquet of dazzling red roses and a smile that in, spite of her vow not to get excited, made her knees weak. He was wearing a black jacket, pants and a tie, and had her favorite men's cologne, Escape for men, on. He was also looking at her like, well she wasn't sure what.
Kevin was feeling as if he had died and gone to heaven.  Amanda was standing in the doorway with a warm and inviting smile, looking absolutely delicious in a black velvet dress and pearls, which he loved on a woman.  He felt his head spin like he was losing his mind and for a moment was tempted to run back for the safety of the 4Runner.
"Come on Kevin, take a chance," he heard a voice whisper in his head. Gulping for breath like a complete fool he thought, he managed to choke out a "God you look great Amanda."
"Well thank you Kevin, "she blushed.  "Oh are those for me?" she said , indicating the roses Kevin had completely forgotten he held.
"Oh yeah," he said, again feeling like a teenager on his first date, handing them to her.
"They're beautiful," she smiled as she opened the door wider to let him in. "Let me put them in some water and then we can get going okay?"
"Sure," he replied following her inside.
The inside of her apartment was exactly like he had pictured it.  There were bookshelves lining one wall of the living room, and she had a lovely looking couch and loveseat positioned just right to watch her television.  With a flash of warmth coming to his face, he wondered what it would be like to hold her close and kiss her all over on that couch, and almost died of embarrassment, hoping she wasn't where she could see his reddened face at the slightly naughty thought.
"Okay Kevin I'm ready, "Amanda said from behind him.
"Let's rock and roll," he said with a smile.
"Lead the way," she laughed as they walked out the door to Kevin's waiting vehicle.
The night was wonderful for them both.  They headed to a seafood restaurant on the bay that Kevin wanted to show her, and they both had a wonderful dinner , which they spent most of talking about their respective careers, Amanda about the team's
season opener and Kevin about the start of their North American tour which would begin in a couple of weeks.  Before they realized it it was almost ten o'clock.
"Good grief we better get out of here before they kick us out," Kevin laughed.   "Do you want to go for a walk?" he asked, praying she would say yes, because he wanted to see her in the moonlight, and hopefully in his arms at some point.   He freely admitted to himself that he had fallen totally helplessly in love with this wonderful woman and it scared the living daylights out of him.
"That would be great," she said.  She wanted to be alone with Kevin, so she could sort out her own feelings which were reeling at that point.  She was deliriously mad for this man, and was petrified to realize it.
He paid the check and they walked outside the restaurant down towards the pier, which had a lovely walkway down the side of it.  They walked along simply enjoying each other's company, until Kevin stopped at the end and looked over at Amanda.
"Amanda I have really enjoyed being with you tonight," he said.  "You have made me feel comfortable than any woman I have known for a long time."
"Thank you Kevin.  I've enjoyed being with you too," she said.
Kevin reached for her and pulled her into his arms for a soft lingering kiss.  His mind spun out of control as the desire for her swept over him.  Pulling her closer, he deepened the kiss, sliding his hands down her back and exploring her warm mouth with his own lips and tongue.
Amanda thought she was going to pass out and fall right into Tampa Bay when Kevin suddenly kissed her.  When the sensual embrace deepened, she moaned softly and wrapped her arms about his waist.  God if this is a dream don't wake me up, she thought.
Out in the harbor, unbeknownst to Kevin and Amanda, Nick was out on his boat. Looking out over the water towards the pier, he noticed a familiar figure standing there. Picking up his binoculars, he realized that it was actually two people, more
specifically Kevin and Amanda.  He  grinned from ear to ear as he realized that phase one of he and his mother's plan was working perfectly-Operation Kevin and Amanda was right on schedule.
