Chapter Seven
Kevin only just managed to come back down to earth as he leaned back and
looked at Amanda. The kiss they had just shared had stirred in him
something that he thought he had buried, and while he was utterly terrified at
the prospect of
living with the emotion welling up inside him, neither could he imagine ever
living without it again. Amanda was drifting somewhere in outer space, she
thought, actually she wasn't entirely sure where she was, except for the fact
she was with Kevin. All she wanted to do at that moment was stay exactly
where she was forever, as corny as that sounded.
"My god Kevin where did you learn to kiss like that?" she said
shakily.
"Boy Scouts," he said with a smile, not too sure of his own voice.
"Remind me to donate money to them," she smiled.
With their arms wrapped around each other, they walked back down the pier's
walkway to Kevin's waiting 4Runner. He opened her door and helped her
inside, giving her a quick peck on the lips as he did, making them both smile in
that
goofy way that only two people who are nuts about each other can smile.
Amanda smiled back at him as he walked around to the driver's side and got in.
They drove for a little bit in silence, both of them thinking pretty hard
about the
extremely sensual moment they had shared.
"Amanda, I just want to tell you-that was the best time I have had in a
long while," Kevin said.
"Same here Kevin," she answered. "You made me feel
so....welcome where I was. I haven't felt that way in a long time. I
guess sometime I will explain what I mean. And I don't want you to think I am
someone who jumps every guy she meets
either," Amanda said.
"God no I don't think that Amanda," said Kevin. "That never
crossed my mind-I mean a few things did but they had nothing to do with
that," he said smiling wickedly. Amanda laughed too as the meaning of
his words hit her. The rest
of the drive was passed in silence, with Kevin and Amanda stealing side glances
at each other and grinning the whole way as they held hands like two high
schoolers after the senior prom.
Kevin pulled into the driveway of Amanda's building and turned off the engine,
then turned to her. "Well I guess this is the last I will see of you
for a while," he said.
"Guess so- what with the tour starting and all," she said with a trace
of sadness in her voice. She was wondering how in the world she would get
through the next few months without him, when he leaned over and kissed
her again.
"God Kevin, how are we going to manage?"
"I don't know-we'll just have to try I guess."
"How long is this tour?"
"Eight months, Hon-all overseas."
"Oh man, when will you be back?"
"By the spring."
Kevin and Amanda got out and walked slowly up to her front door, neither of them
wanting to end the evening and start the long waiting period until they would be
together again. Reluctantly, they gave each other one last kiss goodbye,
drawing it out as long as they could. Kevin stepped back first, and gently
wiped the tears away from Amanda's cheek, and said, "Hang in there babe, I
will be back before you know it."
"I have a countdown going already," she tried to smile. "You
better get going so you can get some sleep before you guys get started
tomorrow."
"Yeah I better," he said, then turned to walk back towards his truck.
He got in a started the engine, then pulled out onto the street and waved to
Amanda as he drove away, brushing the tears away from his own face.
