Chapter 10
Brian forced himself out of bed that morning and grabbed the newspaper from the hall. He sat back down on the bed and opened the newspaper. He stopped as he read the headline on the entertainment section, "Backstreet Boy keeps secret." Brian started reading the article and could not believe what he was reading. Where did they come up with this story, Brian thought to himself. Kevin didn’t have a five-year-old son. "Kevin is not going to be happy about this rumor." Brian said to himself.
Brian was startled by a loud knock at the door. "Brian, it’s Howie. Are you up?"
"Yeah, I’m coming D." Brian said as he walked to the door and opened it. Howie had obviously just discovered the article as well.
"What the hell is this? Where did they get their information?" Howie said in a raised voice.
"I don’t know Howie. Since when has the New York Times turned into a tabloid?" Brian said.
"Do you think Claire would be behind this?" Howie asked.
"No, not at all. At least I don’t think so." Brian said. After a brief pause, Brian said, "He left me Claire’s number. I think we better give him a call."
"Good idea." Howie said as he stepped into the room and closed the door behind him.
Brian found the piece of paper that had Claire’s telephone number written on it and dialed the number. He let it ring several times and got Claire’s answering machine. "Shit, no answer." Brian said.
"Maybe they are still sleeping. You know Kevin." Howie said.
"Yeah, I’ll keep trying and let you know what happens." Brian said.
