Chapter 5
Claire was not tired when she got in the night before so she took the time to do all of her packing then. She was grateful for doing that, because it was Kevin’s call to her that morning that finally woke her up. "Morning Claire. I don’t know about you, but I think we had better get moving to the airport."
Claire sat up straight and let her eyes adjust as she tried to read the time. She had slept in and the limo was leaving for the airport in fifteen minutes. "Shit, I slept through the alarm. Thanks for calling Kevin. I’ll be down shortly." Claire said as she jumped out of bed.
Fifteen minutes later, a limousine arrived outside the hotel and Kevin checked to see who’s it was. It was indeed Claire’s limousine and when Kevin told the driver that Claire was running a little late, the driver started yelling at Kevin and telling him he had a schedule to keep. Kevin made a risky decision and told the driver to just go ahead. Brian wasn’t down in the lobby yet and there was plenty of room for Claire in their limousine. Just as Claire’s limousine pulled away, he saw her emerge from the elevator.
Claire walked over to Kevin, said good morning and left her bags with him. She then quickly ran over to the check out desk, where she was relieved to see there was no line up. A few minutes later Claire stopped beside Kevin and leaned against the wall.
"Morning Sunshine." Kevin said as he looked down at Claire with a smile.
"Morning Kevin." Claire said flatly. Have you seen my limousine pull up yet?" Claire asked.
"Actually I hope you don’t mind, I told him to go ahead. He was really upset that you weren’t down here yet. There is plenty of room for you in the limousine with me and Brian." Kevin said, hoping that Claire wouldn’t be upset with him.
"Oh I hate that limousine company that dad’s travel agent hooks me up with. They are always rude. You’re gonna have to give me the name of your limousine service." Claire said.
"Our booking agent has all the information, but I am sure I could have her pass the information on to you." Kevin said as he finally saw Brian emerge from the elevator. Just at that moment the limousine pulled into the driveway and Kevin started carrying his and Claire’s luggage out to the car.
Five minutes later, Kevin, Brian and Claire were seated in the limousine. Brian sat to one side, while Claire and Kevin sat on the bench along the back of the vehicle. It was obvious to Kevin that Claire was not a morning person at all. He put his arm around her and within minutes after resting her head on his shoulder, she was asleep.
"How did your dinner date go last night?" Brian asked part way into the drive.
"We had a great time last night." Kevin responded quietly.
"So what is happening between the two of you then?" Brian continued, pressing for more details.
"Not much right now. We’ve acknowledged that we like each other and are taking it slowly from there." Kevin replied.
"Is she catching a flight around the same time we are?" Brian asked.
"You’re just full of twenty questions this morning aren’t you Brian. Claire actually lives in New York and it turns out we are on the same flight this morning." Kevin explained.
"Well we aren’t going to be seeing much over the next few weeks are we?" Brian commented.
"Well I don’t want to impose, so I don’t know how much time I will get to spend with her." Kevin said.
"I have a feeling you’ll be seeing a lot of each other." Brian remarked.
"I hope you’re right." Kevin said.
