Love With A Price - Chapter 10

Kevin pulled into Christy’s driveway and was pleasantly surprised. She didn’t own a large house, but it was very well kept and he loved the stone finish on the front. “Looks like you have a nice place here.” Kevin commented.

“It’s not much, but it’s home.” Christy replied.

“I hope you aren’t afraid of dogs. Sheba is very friendly and I guarantee she will jump on you. She gets very excited when she meets new people.” Christy said.

“I love dogs. You don’t have to worry about her scaring me.” Kevin replied.

“Ok then. Brace yourself.” Christy said as she unlocked the front door. A gorgeous golden retriever instantly greeted her. As soon as Sheba realized there was someone new at the door, she instantly forgot about Christy and greeted Kevin with much enthusiasm.

“She is just gorgeous Christy.” Kevin said as he bent down to the dogs level and let her kiss his face.

“She’s my baby.” Christy said as she bent down beside Kevin.

“I would love to have a dog, but I don’t think it would be fair to the animal. Some of the other guys have dogs, and they do bring them on the road, but I just can’t see doing that to an animal. Maybe one of these days if I ever settle down, I would love to have a house full of kids and dogs.” Kevin said.

“I’ve considered getting another dog, but Sheba is enough work. So I will stick with one for now.” Christy said.

“Hey Christy. How was the wedding?” Kevin heard someone ask.

“Hi Doris. The wedding was great! Andrea looked beautiful.” Christy said as she stood up.

“Oh, I had no doubt that Andrea would make a beautiful bride. Who’s your friend?” Doris asked.

“Doris this is Kevin. Kevin this is my next-door neighbor Doris. She loves it when I ask her to look after Sheba.” Christy said.

“Nice to meet you Doris. I can understand why you enjoy watching Sheba. She’s a beautiful dog.” Kevin said.

“She’s very well behaved as well.” Doris said.

“Not that you could tell by first impressions though.” Christy said.

“Don’t worry about it.” Kevin said.

“Well make yourself at home Kevin. I’m just going to go upstairs and put this stuff away. I will just be a few minutes.” Christy said.

“Do you mind if I talk to you about something Christy?” Doris asked as Christy headed up the stairs.

“Not at all Doris. Why don’t you come upstairs with me.” Christy said.

A brief moment later, Christy and Doris were both in Christy’s bedroom. “What is it you needed to talk to me about Doris?” Christy asked.

“You have an unusual glow to you today Christy. Could that have anything to do with Kevin downstairs?” Doris asked.

Doris was almost like a second mother to Christy. Christy’s ex-boyfriend had lived in the house with her and when they broke up, he decided to move out instead of asking Christy to. So Doris was a great friend to Christy when she was going through that difficult time. Doris was the one that encouraged Christy to move on with her life. So Christy was not surprised that Doris could tell that something was different. “Well I’m not sure what’s going on yet. But we started off being business acquaintances, and we ran into each other a few times, and it actually turned out that he was Andrea and Todd’s wedding this weekend. He is a high school buddy of Todd’s. So we both admitted to our feelings last night and spent the night talking and dancing. I really like him Doris.” Christy explained.

“It shows. He’s very good looking as well.” Doris remarked.

“Yes he is, isn’t he? You should see him in a T-shirt and boxers. My god, he looks sexy.” Christy said.

“Now Christy. Don’t tell me that you’re rushing into things with him.” Doris said with concern.

“Don’t worry Doris. We spent the night together last night, but he just held me all night. When I asked him to spend the night, he was the one that told me he wasn’t ready for a sexual relationship. So no worries there Doris.” Christy explained.

“Does he have a good job?” Doris asked.

“Funny you ask that. Have you ever heard of The Backstreet Boys?” Christy asked.

“Who hasn’t heard of them in Orlando.” Doris replied.

“Well, he’s one of them.” Christy said.

“Get out of here. You have got to be kidding.” Doris said.

  “No, I’m not.” Christy replied.

“Well for your sake Christy. I hope this one works out. You’re a beautiful and intelligent woman and you deserve a man that’s going to treat you with respect.” Doris said.

“Thanks Doris. You have always been my biggest fan. You know me. If I’m not happy, then he’s out of here.” Christy said.

“You’re a smart woman Christy. See you later.” Doris said as she left the bedroom.

“Say Doris, could I ask you to come by later to feed Sheba dinner? I’m going out with Kevin this afternoon, and I don’t think we’ll be back in time to feed her.” Christy asked.

“Sure thing Christy. Consider it done.” Doris replied.

“Thanks Doris. You’re a life saver.” Christy said as Doris walked out of the bedroom.
