Love With A Price - Chapter 2

Kevin had called Christy the next morning to ask her where she wanted to meet for lunch. Due to a large amount of work that Christy had to get done that day, she asked Kevin to meet her at the deli that was in the building. Christy got stuck on the phone with someone and was a few minutes late. She walked into the deli and spotted Kevin seated at a table in the corner. She thought he looked even better in his khakis and a black button-up shirt. Kelly was definitely right the day before when she said that good looking just doesn’t do him any justice. He was definitely gorgeous.

“Good Afternoon Kevin. Sorry I’m late. I got stuck on the phone.” Christy said as she took a seat across from Kevin and placed a folder on the table.

  “That’s okay Christine.” Kevin said.

“Please call me Christy. It’s weird when people actually call me Christine. I really should get my business cards reprinted.” Christy said.

“Christy it is then.” Kevin said.

“What can I get for you Kevin?” Christy asked.

“It’s okay. I can get my own lunch.” Kevin replied as he stood up.

“No please let me. After all this is a business lunch.” Christy said.

“Ok, but only if you let me take you out to lunch on me sometime.” Kevin said.

“Sounds like a deal. So what can I get you?” Christy said.

“I’ll just have the club and a garden salad.” Kevin said.

“That’s easy. That’s what I always order from here. They make a wicked club.” Christy said.

Kevin watched Christy closely as she stood in the line-up. She was wearing a navy blue pantsuit that showed off her slim figure. He loved the way her light brown hair fell lightly on her shoulders. He imagined that her hair was soft and he longed to run his fingers through it.

Christy looked back at Kevin and was startled when she found Kevin looking at her. She made eye contact with him for a brief second and instantly looked as she heard someone ask her what her order would be. Christy was determined not to let feelings evolve. She had to keep her relationship with Kevin strictly on a professional level.

A few minutes later, both of their sandwiches were returned and Christy tried to lift the tray herself, but was having difficulties. Before she knew it, Kevin was by her side and took the tray from her. “Let me help you with that.” Kevin said. Christy sat down at the table and took her club sandwich and chips from the tray. “I can’t say I have the same willpower as you.” Christy said.

"Hey if you can eat that stuff, all the more power to you.” Kevin said as he poured the dressing on his salad.

“If you don’t mind me saying, Kelly recognized you yesterday Kevin and I wasn’t aware of the group you’re in until she told me.” Christy said.

“Wow, there are actually people left in the world that don’t recognize me.” Kevin said lightly.

“Kelly’s little sister apparently has you all over her walls.” Christy said.

“I still find it hard to fathom, you know that. I’m just a normal guy that happens to enjoy singing. Yet all these girls and women think so highly of us.” Kevin said.

“From what I have heard, you guys are very talented. I am embarrassed to say that I have only heard a few songs on the radio.” Christy said.

“Please don’t be embarrassed. It is actually nice to meet someone for a change that doesn’t know everything about me.” Kevin assured Christy.

“I should have known more about you before I met with you. I didn’t do my homework.” Christy said.

“Don’t worry about it Christy. It’s fine really. I don’t expect everyone in the world to know who we are.” Kevin said.

“We are excited about the exposure we could get from your work with us.” Christy said.

“Well from what I have heard and read so far, your organization deserves the exposure. I’m happy to help out where I can.” Kevin said.

“Well I just want to thank-you again for your support.” Christy said.

“So, tell me, how did you become the Director at such a young age?” Kevin asked, determined to learn more about the woman sitting across from him.

“It actually just kinda happened. I was hired as a Network Administrator. About a year after I started, our director at the time, became very ill and they were looking for a new director. I got nominated and here I am today. I’ve only been in the position for six months now, but I enjoy it. I still do a lot of work with the PC’s around the office as well. I don’t want to abandon my first love.” Christy explained.

“You sure have accomplished quite a bit for someone your age.” Kevin said.

“I could say the same thing about you. You must be in your late twenties.” Christy said.

“I am 28. You look like you’re in your mid-twenties.” Kevin remarked.

“You’re pretty good. I’m 26. Well I hate to end this lunch so soon Kevin, but I really have to get back to work. If you would like, I will leave the contract with you to look over and you can return it to me at your convenience.” Christy said.

“I will do that Christy. Thanks for your fast response time. I promise I will try to be as prompt getting this back to you, so we can move forward.” Kevin said.

“Once the contract is signed, I will pass control of the account over to another department. You’ll probably be dealing with Jim.” Christy said.

Kevin felt the disappointment as Christy said he would no longer be working with her. He hoped his disappointment didn’t show. “That’s fine” Kevin lied.

“It was a pleasure having lunch with you Kevin. We’ll be talking again soon I’m sure.” Christy said as she stood up.

“Thanks for your time.” Kevin said as they shook hands and Christy then walked away.
