Love With A Price - Chapter 32
Kevin was relieved when his flight arrived about fifteen
minutes early. He was hoping he could be at the house by 5:30am. Kevin had left
his luggage with the other guys and they would bring it home with them later
that day. Kevin ran out to his truck and was on the highway by 5:05 am. Rush
hour traffic had not commenced yet, so Kevin knew he could make it to his place
in less than half an hour. He wanted to call to see how she was doing, but he
was hoping that she was asleep.
Christy lay in the middle of Kevin’s large king-sized
bed. She was tired beyond belief, yet once again she couldn’t sleep. She
rolled over and looked at the clock for what seemed like the millionth time. It
read 5:25am. “Hopefully Kevin’s flight has landed by now.” Christy said to
herself.
Kevin pulled into the garage almost right at 5:30am. He
didn’t even bother pulling into the garage. He just jumped out of the truck
and ran up to the front door. He unlocked the door and was stopped by one of the
police officers. “I’m Kevin Richardson.” Kevin said.
“Hello Mr. Richardson. Christy is upstairs sleeping right
now.” The officer said.
Kevin ran up the stairs into his bedroom and saw
Christy’s small figure lying in the middle of the bed. He slowly walked over
to the side of the bed and said, “Are you awake Christy?”
He heard Christy’s weak voice ask, “Is that you
Kevin?”
“Yes it is Christy. I’m here now.” Kevin said as he
sat down on the bed and took Christy in his arms.
“Thank-you for coming back so quickly. I’m so sorry
that I ruined your night.” Christy said quietly.
“Don’t you apologize for anything Christy. You know I
wouldn’t be anywhere else right now.” Kevin said. He just held Christy for a
few minutes and then Kevin asked, “What did he say to you? Are you sure it was
the same guy?”
“I didn’t give him the chance to say much. He said
something about you guys just winning the Grammy. I hung up on him pretty
quickly and called you right away.” Christy said.
“Did he threaten you at all?” Kevin asked.
“No. I didn’t give him the chance to.” Christy
replied.
“You know you’ll still have to go down to the police
station later today to give a statement.” Kevin said.
“I know. But there just isn’t much to tell. I thought
he was behind bars for a lot longer.” Christy said.
“I’ll demand some answers today trust me.” Kevin
said.
“All I know is I can’t wait to get away from here.”
Christy said.
“Just a few more day’s Christy. Now did you get any
sleep last night?” Kevin asked.
“No.” Christy replied.
“Why don’t we both try and get a few hours sleep then.
Just let me go down and talk to the officers for a few minutes and I will be
back up.” Kevin said.
“No, please don’t leave me alone Kevin.” Christy said
as she grasped Kevin’s hand.
“I’ll just be a second Christy. I’m not going far.”
Kevin said as he kissed Christy on the forehead.
Christy let Kevin’s hand go. She just wanted him to take
her in his arms and make her feel safe again. She was just starting to get over
the attack from almost three months ago and now she felt even more scared than
she had before.
Kevin went downstairs quickly to talk to the officers. He
thanked the officers for staying and said it was all right for them to leave. He
told them he would bring Christy into the station for a statement as soon as she
got some sleep. He was back upstairs with Christy a few minutes later, after the
officers had left the house.
Kevin stripped down to his boxers and climbed into bed
beside Christy. He was tired himself because he couldn’t get any sleep on the
plane ride back to Orlando. He was too worried about Christy. “Let’s see if
you can get some sleep.” Kevin said as he took Christy in his arms.
Christy rested her head on Kevin’s chest and instantly
felt a little better. Within minutes she felt herself nodding off.
Kevin was relieved when he realized Christy was asleep. He knew he should get up and leave Kelly a message explaining what had happened, but he didn’t dare disturb Christy now that she was asleep.
