Love With A Price - Chapter 48

Three weeks later

The last couple weeks were pretty uneventful. The guys were making great progress on recording the album and they determined they could take four days off. Kevin had already taken Christy to London for three days, and now Kevin and Christy were on their way to Paris.

Kevin watched Christy as she slept beside him on the plane. She had been unusually tired for the past few weeks. Christy kept telling him that it was just because she was constantly busy doing something, but Kevin had to admit that he was starting to get concerned about her. He insisted that Christy go see a doctor when they returned to Orlando in a week and a half.

Christy woke up from her nap and felt sick once again. She got up quickly and just said, "I'll be back in a second." Christy had been feeling nauseous for the past couple of days and had been hiding it from Kevin. Up until today Kevin had been busy in the studio and it was easy to hide it from him. She had confided in LeighAnn the day before though. As soon as Christy felt better, she put a piece of gum in her mouth and headed back to her seat.

Kevin watched Christy as she sat down and couldn't help but notice how pale she was. "You look pale Christy, are you ok?" Kevin asked.

Christy didn't have the strength to hide it from Kevin anymore. She had to tell him that she thought she was pregnant. Christy rested her head against the chair as her eyes filled with tears.

"Christy honey, talk to me. You're starting to scare me." Kevin said.

"I was just sick." Christy said.

"I knew we should have stayed in Sweden." Kevin said.

"This isn't the first time Kevin. I've been very nauseous for the past couple of days." Christy proceeded to say.

"Why on earth didn't you say something to me Christy?" Kevin asked as he gently caressed her cheek. "You don't feel warm, so that's a good sign." Kevin said.

"Oh god, how do I tell you this?" Christy said, still not looking at Kevin.

"Christy, you know you can tell me anything." Kevin said, as he became increasingly nervous.

Christy felt her stomach turn once again and she got up to run to the washroom again. Kevin wasn't far behind her this time. Christy made it to the washroom just in time and didn't have the time to close the door. Kevin was down there on the floor with Christy and tried to comfort her.

Kevin sat behind Christy and gently rubbed her back. Kevin was really becoming concerned now. The first thing he was going to do when they got off the plane, was take Christy to see a doctor.

A few minutes later, Christy finally sat back and rested herself against the wall. "Come on. Let's go back to our seats. A plane's washroom is not the most comfortable place to be sitting." Kevin said as he tried to help Christy get up.

Christy leaned on Kevin for support. She felt like every ounce of energy she had was drained from her body. All she wanted to do was crawl into bed and sleep in Kevin's arms. Just as she thought that, the pilot announced that they would be landing in approximately fifteen minutes.

"You're stomach okay now?" Kevin asked.

"A little better." Christy replied weakly.

"Christy, will you please tell me what's wrong? Kevin pleaded.

Christy knew that she couldn't hold off on telling Kevin any longer. She finally looked Kevin in the eye and said, "Kevin, I think I'm pregnant."

Christy's words rang through Kevin's head over and over again. He couldn't believe he had just heard her say those words. Kevin thought back to the night that he forgot to use a condom and how Christy had assured him that everything would be fine. He believed her. He trusted her word. Kevin's thoughts quickly changed gears. He reminded himself how much he loved Christy and that she was going to be his wife before the end of the year. All of a sudden, it didn’t matter that they weren't married yet. All that mattered to Kevin was that the woman he loved was pregnant with his child.

Christy held her breath as she watched Kevin. She watched his expression go from one of shock, to anger and now she couldn't read the look on his face. Christy couldn't hold it in anymore and she finally started sobbing. Kevin was reacting exactly how she feared. She knew he was dead set against having a baby before marriage.

Christy's sobs brought Kevin back to reality. He realized that he hadn't said anything for several minutes, and that Christy must have been thinking the worst. Kevin took a crying Christy in his arms and gently rocked her. As soon as she had calmed down somewhat, Kevin sat back and looked Christy straight in the eye. He could see doubt and fear in her eyes. "Christy, please don't be afraid. I'm shocked to say the least, but I love you and if you are pregnant, we're in this together."

Christy wasn't sure if she had heard Kevin correctly. But when she looked Kevin in the eye and saw nothing but love mirrored in his eyes, she knew she had heard him correctly. Christy broke down again and said, "I'm so sorry I didn't say anything a few days ago. I was just so afraid." Christy said.

"Well I wish you had of said something to me sooner, but I understand. I would like you to see a doctor though while we're in Paris." Kevin said.

"I'm sure it can wait until we at least get back to Sweden. The morning sickness and fatigue are normal as far as I understand." Christy said.

"I'm not taking any chances Christy. I want this confirmed by a doctor as soon as possible." Kevin insisted.

"Ok. I'll go see a doctor in Paris then." Christy finally agreed. Christy sat in Kevin’s arms for the remainder of the flight. She thought for sure Kevin was going to freak when she told him. She wished now that she had told him the second she suspected she was pregnant. All these thoughts started racing through Christy’s head. Kevin was going to be away from home a great deal over the next nine months. Christy didn’t want to go through the pregnancy alone and she was almost certain that Kevin would not want to miss anything.

Kevin and Christy were so in tune to each other, that Kevin was thinking the exact same things as he held Christy in his arms. He knew how important Christy’s career was to her, but he wondered if she would be willing to take some time off and travel with him. It had always been a dream of his to have a baby, and from what his brother told him, he knew he didn’t want to miss anything. He wanted to bring it up right away, but the plane had just landed and was pulling up to the gate. Kevin refused to let Christy carry anything other than her backpack.

Kevin had rented a car for their three-day stay in Paris. He wanted to show Christy so much and he didn’t want anything holding them back. Now as he thought back on all the plans he had made for the three days, he wondered if it was all such a good idea. It was obvious that Christy was fatigued and he didn’t want to put her or the baby in danger. ‘Listen to myself. We don’t even know for sure yet.’ Kevin said to himself.

Once they were in the car and on their way to the hotel, Christy said, “You’ve been awfully quiet. What are you thinking?”

“What am I not thinking is more the question. All these things are racing through my mind.” Kevin replied.

“Care to share it with me?” Christy asked.

“Where do I begin?” Kevin said. After a brief pause, he said, “We’ll talk once we get settled into the hotel room ok.”

“I’m not letting you off the hook here Kevin.” Christy said.

“Oh don’t worry. That’s not what I am trying to do. I just don’t think it’s a wise idea to talk about all of this while I’m trying to drive.” Kevin said.

“You’re not angry with me are you?” Christy had to ask.

“No Christy. I’m far from being angry with you. There are just so many things to think about now.” Kevin said.

Half an hour later, Kevin unlocked the hotel room door and placed their bags on the floor. The first thing Christy did was go to the washroom. She had also noticed the frequency in which she had to go to the bathroom.

Kevin stood in front of the window and looked out over Paris. Things definitely were not happening as he had planned, but he couldn’t help but feel excited about everything. He turned around when he heard Christy come out of the washroom. “Are you ok?” he asked.

“Yeah. Just had to go to the bathroom again.” Christy replied.

“Is that normal?” Kevin asked.

“I think so, but what do I know.” Christy said.

“Well we better start learning. Why don’t we go down to the front desk and ask them where the closest doctor is.” Kevin said.

“Can I make a suggestion? Why don’t we just go see one back in Sweden and we’ll just do one of those home pregnancy tests while we’re here.” Christy said.

“You’re lucky we’re only staying for a few days, or I would insist on taking you to a doctor while we were here.” Kevin said.

“So what do you have planned first?” Christy asked.

“I don’t want to make you do too much Christy. If you just feel like relaxing for the rest of the day, that is fine with me.” Kevin replied.

“I’m feeling better now Kevin. Thank god they call it morning sickness.” Christy said.

“Well the shopping is great here. What do you say we buy up Paris?” Kevin said.

“Shopping always sounds good to me.” Christy replied.

Kevin and Christy spent the whole afternoon walking through the downtown streets of Paris. A few fans had recognized Kevin while they were out that afternoon, and he was happy to stop and sign autographs for them. Christy had never seen Kevin in such a good mood.

Their last stop was a drug store that was just around the corner from the hotel they were staying at. Christy had convinced Kevin to go ahead up to the room, and she would look after buying the home pregnancy test. They both knew that they couldn’t risk Kevin getting caught buying a home pregnancy test. The rumors would just run wild.

Kevin sat in the room impatiently while he waited for Christy to return. Finally twenty minutes later, he heard the hotel room door open. “Who would have thought there were so many to choose from?” Christy said as she placed a bag on the bed.

“So what do we have to do?” Kevin asked.

“The pharmacist suggests we do it first thing in the morning. She told me that is when we’ll get the most accurate results.” Christy replied.

“You mean to tell me you’re going to make me wait all night?” Kevin asked.

“It’s only one night Kevin. I’m going to get changed into my bathing suit, go for a swim. Then we can go get some dinner, go to bed and before you know it tomorrow morning will have arrived.” Christy said as she squeezed Kevin’s hand.

“I’ll come down with you, but I think I’ll go lift some weights.” Kevin said as he stood up.

As soon as they got changed, Kevin and Christy went up to the fitness center. Kevin walked Christy to the pool and kissed her just before he left. “I’ll be by to come and get you in half an hour. I don’t want you over doing it.” Kevin said.

“See you in half an hour then.” Christy said as she removed her robe and dove into the pool.

Kevin was feeling very protective of Christy now and he didn’t want to leave her alone, but he knew she would not want him just hanging around because he was worried. So he reluctantly walked down the hall to the weight room and was relieved to see that no one was there.

Christy had done about twenty laps, when all of a sudden she started feeling dizzy. She slowly moved to the side of the pool and pulled herself out. She sat on the edge of the pool for a few minutes until she felt a little more clear headed.

Kevin was just getting off one of the weight machines, when he felt a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach. He grabbed his towel and headed towards the pool. He had never ran so quickly in his life when he saw Christy sitting by the edge of the pool.

Christy felt Kevin’s arms come around her as he said, “What’s wrong?”

“I just felt a little dizzy that’s all.” Christy said.

“Put your head in between your legs.” Kevin said.

“It’s ok Kevin. I’m feeling a little better now. Can we just go back up to the room?” Christy asked.

Kevin helped Christy up and wrapped her in her robe. “You sure you’re feeling okay to walk?” Kevin asked.

“Yeah. Just don’t let go.” Christy said.

As soon as they made it back to the room, Kevin said, “That’s it Christy. You’re going to see a doctor tomorrow and I don’t want to hear any arguments out of you.”

“I have no intentions of arguing with you.” Christy said as she sat down on the bed.

“Let’s get you out of this wet bathing suit and get you into bed. We’ll order room service for dinner tonight.” Kevin said as she undid Christy’s robe. “Can you stand up for a second so I can get this bathing suit off of you?” Kevin said. Christy stood up against her better judgment. Kevin was caught off guard when Christy collapsed into his arms. He lifted Christy up onto the bed and immediately picked up the phone. He called down to the front desk and told them to get an ambulance right away. Within minutes, there was a knock on the door. He quickly opened the door to let the paramedics into the room. Kevin stood back and watched while the paramedics quickly worked on Christy. After a few minutes, one of the paramedics said, “We’ll have to take her to the hospital. Can you come with us?”

“Of course. I refuse to leave her side.” Kevin said.

A few minutes later, Kevin climbed into the back of the ambulance and sat beside Christy. He held her hand praying that she would regain consciousness. “Mr. Richardson, how has Christy been feeling lately?” one of the paramedics asked.

“Actually we think she may be pregnant. She’s been feeling fatigued and nauseous for the past couple days.” Kevin replied.

“Have you had it confirmed that she’s pregnant?” the paramedic asked.

“No.” Kevin replied.

Ten minutes later, Kevin found himself seated in the hospital waiting room. Christy had not yet regained consciousness, and the doctor was in with her now. Kevin was startled when he heard someone call his name. He looked up and saw the doctor. “How is she?” Kevin asked.

“She’s regained consciousness now and is asking for you. We’ve run a serious of blood work to start with and I’ve put a rush on those. We should have the results back within the hour. We have to determine whether she really is pregnant before we can proceed.“ The doctor said as she lead Kevin to where Christy was.

Kevin rushed to Christy’s side and kissed her on the forehead. She still looked very pale, but he was relieved that she was at least awake. “How are you feeling?” Kevin asked.

“Tired.” Christy said weakly.

“Go to sleep then honey. I’ll be right here. I promise I won’t leave your side.” Kevin said.

“You’ll wake me when they get the test results back?” Christy asked.

“You bet I will.” Kevin said as Christy closed her eyes.

As soon as Kevin was confident that Christy was asleep, he stepped out of the room for a few minutes to call Brian. “Hey Brian, it’s Kevin.” He said as Brian answered the phone.

“Hey man. Why on earth are you calling me. You’re supposed to be on the town with Christy.” Brian said.

“I’m here at the hospital with Christy. She passed out on me a short while ago.” Kevin said.

“Oh my god Kevin. Is so going to be okay?” Brian asked.

“They’re waiting for some test results to come back now. Has LeighAnn mentioned anything to you about Christy?” Kevin asked.

“No. Do you think Leigh knows something?” Brian asked.

“I was just wondering if Christy mentioned anything to her about thinking she was pregnant.” Kevin said.

“She definitely hasn’t said anything to me. Do you want me to get her?” Brian asked.

“Could you please Brian?” Kevin asked.

A few seconds later, LeighAnn came onto the phone. “What’s this Brian tells me about Christy being pregnant?” LeighAnn asked.

“So she didn’t say anything to you then?” Kevin asked.

“No, she didn’t Kevin. I had no idea. Is she ok?” LeighAnn asked.

“She’s sleeping right now. They are waiting for the pregnancy test to come back so they will know how to proceed with treating her.” Kevin said.

“You will let us know how she is won’t you?” LeighAnn asked.

“I’ll give you guys a call in the morning. But I should get back to her. Talk to you guys later.” Kevin said.

When Kevin returned to the room, Christy was awake once again and a nurse was with her. “Is everything ok?” Kevin asked.

“Just checking her blood pressure. The doctor should be in to see her in a few minutes.” The nurse said.

“Thank-you.” Kevin said as he sat down beside Christy. “You have a little more color back in your face.” Kevin observed.

“They brought some water in for me. Can you pour me some?” Christy asked.

Kevin got up and filled a small Dixie cup with water. “Can you sit up a little?” Kevin asked as he held the glass out to Christy. He watched Christy struggle as she tried to sit up. He sat down on the edge of the bed and held the cup for her as she took a few sips.

“You’re looking a little better. How are you feeling Christy?” the doctor asked as he entered the room.

“A little better.” Christy replied.

“Well we got the test results back and congratulations, you are indeed pregnant Christy. That would explain the fatigue and nausea you have been experiencing. As far as passing out, that was from a combination of dehydration and exhaustion. You’re going to have to slow down and take it easy Christy. Some women don’t have to change their schedules at all while they are pregnant, while others have to make some changes. I would like to keep you here over night to monitor you and get some more fluids into you.” The doctor said.

“Well trust me doc. Now that I know for sure that she’s pregnant, I’ll ensure that she takes it easy.” Kevin said.

“What do you mean by take it easy? How much do I have to cut back on?” Christy asked.

“Restrict yourself to light exercise. Try and reduce stress as much as possible. Try to avoid overtime at work. You might actually find it difficult to make it through a regular work day for the next two months or so, until you are in the second trimester.” The doctor replied.

“What about traveling?” Kevin asked.

“Travel by airplane is not the best thing at this stage of the pregnancy. But I understand that you are both from America and will be flying back there next week. Just be aware that if you feel any cramping or you start spotting to get to a doctor right away.” The doctor said.

“I’ll definitely keep that in mind doctor.” Christy said.

“Mr. Richardson, I assume you will be spending the night with Christy?” the doctor asked.

“Yes I will be.” Kevin replied.

“We are getting fluids into her via intravenous, but could you make sure that she gets plenty of fluids into her. Dehydration is not a good thing during pregnancy.” The doctor said.

“Of course I will.” Kevin said.

“Ok then. I’ll check in with her in the morning before we release her.” The doctor said as he turned to leave the room.

Kevin followed him out of the room. “Can I talk to you for a second?” Kevin asked.

“Of course.” The doctor replied.

“I just want to ensure that strict confidentiality is used in this case. You may not know who I am, but I know many of the nurses around here do, and I don’t want this leaking to the media at all.” Kevin said.

“I am aware of who you are Kevin, and you can be assured that no one will breath a word.” The doctor replied.

“Thank-you. Now I wanted to ask you about Christy’s work. She is here with me on vacation while I work. Is it wise for her to go back to work when we return?” Kevin asked.

“There is nothing stopping her from working, unless there are further complications. Women work while they are pregnant all the time.” The doctor replied.

“Ok thanks.” Kevin said as he turned to go back into the room. That wasn’t really the answer that he was hoping to get, but he was definitely going to try and convince Christy to take a leave of absence. After this incident, Kevin didn’t feel right about leaving Christy in Orlando alone and most of all, he wanted to experience everything along with Christy.
