Love With A Price - Chapter 70
Two Days Later
"Kevin, come on. You need to get up if we're going to
make it to the airport on time." Christy said as she tried to wake Kevin
up. Kevin threw the covers off and stormed out of bed and slammed the bathroom
door and left Christy sitting on the bed by herself. The ringing of the
telephone startled Christy. When she answered the phone, it was Brian on the
other end. "You guys almost ready to go?" Brian asked.
"Well I am. But it has been hell getting Kevin out of
bed this morning." Christy said.
"Well the van will be to pick you guys up in half an
hour. See ya then." Brian said as he hung up.
Christy got off the bed and took the lighter bags down to
the front door. She knew that Kevin wasn't particularly looking forward to this
tour, and she assumed that was why he was in a foul mood that morning. So she
wanted to do as much as she possibly could for him. Just as she was leaving the
room with another bag, Kevin walked out of the washroom. "Just leave those
there Christy. I don't want you lifting anything." Kevin said.
"I'm fine Kevin, I really am. These are the light
bags." Christy said.
"Fine, do what you want." Kevin said as he walked
into the closet.
Christy ignored Kevin and continued downstairs. They didn't
have the time to get into it. If Kevin's mood didn't improve as the day went on,
she would say something to him then.
A few minutes later, Kevin came down the stairs with two
suitcases. "Did you make any coffee?" Kevin asked as he dropped the
bags by the door and headed towards the kitchen.
"Sorry, I didn't have the time. We'll get you some at
the airport." Christy said.
"Christy, you know I need a cup of coffee first thing
in the morning." Kevin said in an annoyed tone.
"Screw you Kevin." Christy said as she sat down
in the living room.
"What's up your ass this morning." Kevin mumbled.
"You are." Christy spat back at Kevin.
"Well I can see this is going to make for a great
start to the tour." Kevin said.
"Keep it up Kevin and you'll be going on your
own." Christy said.
"Fine, see if I care." Kevin said as he went to
answer the door when he heard a knock.
Kevin opened the door to find Howie and AJ standing there.
"Come on lovebirds, time to get this show on the road." AJ said.
Kevin stormed past the two with some luggage and loaded it
into the van. AJ went out to help Kevin, while Howie went into the house to try
and find Christy. He found her crying on the couch. "What's wrong
Christy?" Howie asked as he sat down beside her.
"We just had a big fight over practically nothing at
all." Christy said in between sobs.
"I'm surprised the two of you don't fight more often.
Christy, you gotta know that fights are bound to happen every once and a while.
Fights are part of every healthy relationship." Howie tried to comfort
Christy.
"We're ready when you guys are." AJ said as he
peeked his head around the corner and then disappeared.
"You go ahead. I just need to lock the place up."
Christy said, totally confused over Kevin's behavior that morning. A few minutes
later, she walked out to the van and was shocked to find that the only available
seat was beside LeighAnn. She quietly took the seat and closed the van door.
The van was full of conversation as they headed for the
airport. The only two not participating in the conversation were Kevin and
Christy. Kevin was seated in the back of the van looking out the window and
Christy had rested her head and pretended to be napping. Christy just wanted
Kevin to take her in his arms and tell her that everything was all right. She
hoped that Kevin's anger had dissipated by the time they arrived at the airport.
She wasn't sure how much more of the silent treatment she could handle.
Twenty minutes later, everyone got out of the van and
headed into the airport. Christy had actually started talking to LeighAnn a few
minutes before they arrived at the airport and they continued that conversation
as they walked towards their gate. Christy didn't even notice that Kevin was
walking by himself behind the whole group.
"Hey Kevin man, what's up with you this morning?
You're awfully quiet." Nick asked.
"Not now Nick." Kevin snapped back.
"Whoa. Hey ya'll, Kevin's in a REAL foul mood this
morning." Nick said as he caught up to the rest of the group.
Christy heard the comment and looked back at Kevin. They
made eye contact and she instantly looked away when she saw how cold his look
was. This was going to be a long flight, Christy said to herself.
"Is Kevin all right this morning?" Brian asked.
"I don't know what his problem is. He had a hell of a
time getting out of bed and then he chewed me out for not having any coffee
made. The last thing he said was he didn't care if I came along." Christy
replied.
"You know he doesn't mean that Christy. I'm surprised
you haven't seen this side of him more often. Kevin is most definitely not a
morning person. Just let him cool down for a while. He'll come around. He always
does." Brian tried to reassure Christy.
"I'll be back in a sec guys. I'm just going to use the
washroom." Christy said as she walked away from the group. A few minutes
later, Christy returned to the group and took her chances by sitting beside
Kevin. "Did you want to go get a cup of coffee?" Christy asked.
"I can get it on my own." Kevin said as he got up
and walked away from Christy.
Brian saw this and ran after his cousin. When he caught up,
he said, "Did you want to talk about anything?"
"Just go back to the others. I'll be fine." Kevin
said sharply.
"No Kevin, you're going to listen to me. Christy has
become a friend over the past several months and I don't like to see you
treating her this way. I know I have no business meddling in your relationship
with Christy, but I don't like to see the two of you fighting. You better think
twice and think about apologizing to Christy." Brian said, before he turned
and walked away.
"You're right Brian. It is none of your
business." Kevin said loud enough for everyone to hear.
Christy stopped when she heard Kevin. "Thanks anyways
for trying Brian. He can sulk in the corner until he decides he's ready to talk
to me about what's bothering him." Christy said as Brian sat back down and
shrugged his shoulders.
Their flight was a little late, so everyone sat around and
talked. All the guys were making sure they kept Christy included in the
conversation, while Kevin continued to sulk a few seats down. Finally they made
the boarding call, and Kevin stood up and stormed towards the gate. Christy
tried to run after him and when she caught up, she asked Kevin for her ticket.
He flung his arm around to pass Christy the ticket, but instead he wound up
hitting Christy in the abdomen.
Christy was shocked for a few seconds, and didn't even
notice that Kevin had taken her in his arms and was apologizing profusely. As
soon as she realized what had happened she took her ticket from him and pushed
him away and said, "Stay away from me Kevin!" LeighAnn followed
Christy to ensure that she was all right.
"Christy, honey. I really am sorry." Kevin said,
nearly on the verge of tears.
"Kevin man, just let her calm down for a little
while." Brian said as he walked with Kevin on to the plane.
"Shit, I've been a real asshole this morning haven't
I." Kevin said.
"Yeah, that about sums it up." Brian agreed with
Kevin. Christy had already taken Brian's seat, so Brian went and sat with Kevin.
"Just give her a little time." Brian said, trying to calm Kevin down.
"Will you go up for me and make sure that she's
ok." Kevin asked Brian.
"Sure, hold on a sec man." Brian said as he got
up from his seat and proceeded down the aisle towards LeighAnn and Christy. He
was not surprised when he got there to find Christy in tears. "Are you
ok?" Brian asked.
"Physically she's fine, but not emotionally. Does
Kevin realize what he did?" LeighAnn asked.
"Yes he does. He feels really bad right now. I hope
you realize he never meant to hurt you Christy." Brian said, in Kevin's
defense.
"I'm not ready to talk to him yet Brian." Christy
said in between sobs.
"That's fine. He knew you wouldn't be ready to talk.
He just wants to make sure you're ok." Brian said.
"Tell him I'm fine." Christy said. Brian turned
and walked back up the aisle towards Kevin.
"So?" Kevin asked.
"She's fine. But she's not ready to talk yet. She's
still pretty upset." Brian said.
"Shit!" Kevin said as he pounded the arm of the
chair. "I have no clue what got in to me this morning." Kevin said.
"Well there's no doubt that you have some apologizing
to do." Brian said as he put on his headphones to listen to a CD.
A few hours later, LeighAnn came back to talk to Kevin.
"How is she doing?" Kevin asked LeighAnn.
"She's sleeping right now." LeighAnn replied.
"Do you think she's ready to talk?" Kevin asked.
"It won't hurt to try Kevin. I know all she really
wants is to be in your arms." LeighAnn said.
With that said, Kevin got up from his seat and walked
towards Christy. He nearly broke down into tears as he watched Christy sleep.
She had her head resting against the back of the chair and her hands were
resting on her abdomen. Kevin took the seat beside her and decided to cover her
with a blanket and let her sleep as opposed to waking her up. As Kevin carefully
covered Christy with the blanket, she started to stir. She slowly opened her
eyes and looked at Kevin. It must have taken her a few seconds to remember the
events from earlier that morning, because after a few seconds she turned her
head and looked out the window.
"Christy, honey. I want to apologize for being an ass
earlier. I had no right to be so harsh with you this morning and I felt like a
first class idiot when I hit you. You must know I would never do anything to
intentionally hurt you or the baby." Kevin said, hoping that Christy would
accept his apology. When he didn't get a response from Christy, he pleaded,
"Please look at me Christy?"
"You hurt me today Kevin. And I'm not talking about
physically. I know you never meant to hit me. But your lashing out at me really
hurt. Negatives words tend to be a lot stronger and have a much more lasting
effect." Christy said without looking at Kevin.
"You know I didn't mean a word of it Christy. I'm
sorry I yelled at you. I'm sorry I told you I didn't want you to come. I guess I
wasn't looking forward to this trip even more than I was willing to admit to
myself and I took it out on you." Kevin said.
Christy finally turned to face Kevin and said, "Then
you come and talk to me about how you're feeling Kevin. You don't stomp around
and yell at me. I'm supposed to be avoiding stress right now Kevin, and this
morning didn’t help matters." Christy replied.
"I know I should have communicated my feelings instead
of bottling them up. You know I have gotten much better at that since I've met
you. There is no excuse for what I did. I'm sorry and all I can do is promise
that I'll try my best next time to talk about my feelings instead of holding
them in and then exploding." Kevin said.
"You are right Kevin. Normally we don't have this
problem. I like to think that we have both become comfortable enough with each
other that we can tell each other anything. I'm not used to fighting with you
Kevin because it hardly ever happens, and it scared me. I had never heard words
like that come out of your mouth and for a second I believed them." Christy
said as she started to cry again.
"Please don't cry baby. You know more than anything
else in the world that I wouldn't be able to do this tour without you. You're
the only thing that is going to make this tour bearable for me. I need you by my
side Christy." Kevin said.
"Just hold me please." Christy said, barely loud
enough for Kevin to hear.
Kevin lifted up the arm of the chair and pulled Christy
into his arms. "I love you more than life itself Christy. Please forgive
me." Kevin whispered in Christy's ear.
"I love you too." Christy said into Kevin's chest. Kevin saw LeighAnn walk by and winked at her to let her know that everything was all right.
More to come soon!
