Love With A Price - Chapter 77
One month later
Christy and Kevin had now been apart for one month. For the
first week or so, Christy was managing quite well. She had been to see the
doctor and was told that everything was going well. But Dr. Kosar was relieved
to hear that she would be staying home for the remainder of the pregnancy. Kevin
made sure that he called Christy at least once a day. They spent a lot of time
talking while he they were traveling on the tour bus.
But with each passing day, Christy felt as if Kevin was
becoming more and more distant. They still spoke every day, but it just wasn't
the same. When Christy used to ask Kevin how his day was, he would always go
into every little detail, but now all she got out of him was a "Good"
or a "Fine". She hadn't asked Kevin what was wrong yet. She was afraid
to ask him.
Now as Christy lay in bed, she cried herself to sleep. This
was the first day that she hadn't spoken to Kevin since she left him in Europe.
He hadn't called at his usual time and when she tried to call him, all she got
was his voice mail. She left him a message, and she became increasingly
depressed as she sat by the phone waiting for his call. She tried calling his
hotel room before she went to bed, but got no answer. She confirmed that he had
indeed checked in, but that was all they could tell her. She kept trying to tell
herself that Kevin was busy and he would be on the phone with her if it was
possible. But it wasn't working anymore.
Christy woke up the next morning, dreading the day. Kevin's
mother was flying in to spend another week with her. How could she possibly hide
the fact that she was worried about her relationship with Kevin? She thought
about calling Ann and telling her that she had a cold and wasn't up for company,
but she knew that would only make people worry. They were going to spend the
week finalizing the plans for the wedding. It was now less than two months away.
Christy got ready and drove to the airport. It was a
gorgeous day, not too hot and not too cold. Although in her pregnant state, the
heat was still bothersome. She wore a light sleeveless sundress, which helped
keep her cool. Christy greeted Ann at the gate and they hugged like mother and
daughter. Christy had grown very fond of Ann, and considered her to be more of a
mother than her own. And Ann had
confessed to Kevin that she considered Christy to be the daughter that she never
had. She thought back to the time Kevin told her about that. He was just
beaming, he was so happy. She couldn't help but wonder if Kevin was still that
happy.
When they returned to the house, Christy was relieved when
there was a message from Kevin. He had tried calling her cell phone, but she
hadn't even thought about turning it on. It had been so long since Kevin had
called her on it. She let Ann get settled in the guest room and then she went to
their own bedroom and returned Kevin's call. She was relieved when he answered
the phone. "Hey Kevin, It's me." Christy said.
"Hey babe. Did my mother get in ok?" Kevin asked.
"Yeah. She's settling into the guest room right
now." Christy replied.
"I bet you're looking forward to her company this week
eh?" Kevin remarked.
"Yes, the company will be nice. Finalizing the wedding
plans should keep us busy. The invitations will be going out this week."
Christy said.
"I wish I was there to help you with all of
that." Kevin said.
"Do you really?" Christy asked, instantly
regretting it.
"What do you mean Christy? Of course I mean it."
Kevin said, shocked by Christy's comment.
"I'm sorry. I don't know where that came from."
Christy said.
"I think you do know where that came from. What's
up?" Kevin asked, knowing full well that something was bothering her.
"Nothing, I'm fine." Christy lied.
"Why don't I believe you?" Kevin asked.
"Cause you know me too well." Christy said as she
started to cry.
"Come on baby, talk to me." Kevin said in a calm
and quiet voice.
"I'm just scared Kevin." Christy said.
"Scared of what?" Kevin asked.
"Scared that we're growing apart." Christy said.
"Growing apart? What gives you that idea?" Kevin
asked.
"I don't know. Just forget it. My imagination is
probably just working overtime, that's all." Christy said.
"No, I won't just forget it Christy. I know we haven't
been talking as much as we did in the beginning, but they've added a lot of
promotional appearances, and our time off is no longer time off." Kevin
said.
"I know Kevin. I guess I just have all this time to
think and my mind starts playing games on me. I'll be glad when the pregnancy is
over and I won't be so emotional." Christy said.
"I wish I was there to just hold you right now and
show you how much I love you." Kevin said.
"So do I." Christy said.
"I hate to do this now, but I gotta go. We have to
head over to the venue. Do you want me to call you from the bus? We could at
least talk for another fifteen or twenty minutes." Kevin asked.
"No that's ok. I should go make some lunch for your
mom and I. Just give me a call after the show." Christy said.
"Ok. Our regular time and place then. Just one more
month baby. We've made it this far. Don't ever forget how much I love you
ok." Kevin said.
"I love you too. Have a great show tonight."
Christy said.
"Thanks. Talk to you later. Love ya." Kevin said as he hung up the phone. Christy returned the phone to the cradle and hugged Kevin's pillow close. After a few minutes, she went downstairs to get lunch started.
