Chapter 1 - Orlando, 1999
It had been one hundred and twenty-four years since Kevin
was born into the vampire world. With Althea's guidance, Kevin had become one of
the most respected psychic vampires of their time. Kevin was now part of a large
underground world. Millions of psychic vampires roamed the earth, for the most
part leading normal lives. It was easy for their type to feed off of just about
anyone without causing extreme trauma to their victims. A few days of fatigue
and fevers were the most their victims ever suffered. Kevin only fed when it was
absolutely necessary. On very rare occasions, Kevin would have sexual
intercourse with attractive women, although it would take these women longer to
recover from the fatigue.
Kevin had come to love Althea over the years, although part
of him would never be able to forgive Althea for condemning him to a life of
depression, fatigue, headaches and moodiness. Therefore he could never bring
himself to take any offspring. For several years, Kevin found himself comforting
the young. He would take them under his wing and teach them, just like Althea
did with him. Except, he would always teach his young to never force
unsuspecting victims into the underworld. After sometime he would always set
them free, but he always kept track of their whereabouts.
There was one young vampire that he never had the heart to
let go though. His name was Nick Carter. Nick had been thirteen when a greedy
woman named Thora, who he loathed, decided Nick was cute and she wanted him as
her own. Unfortunately Thora was still young herself and didn't have the
experience or strength to guide Nick. The situation had been brought to Althea's
attention and she suggested that Kevin take him in. Seven years later, Nick was
still in Kevin's care.
A few short months after Nick's unfortunate demise, Nick and Kevin were presented with an offer that they could not turn away from. They had heard that a local group was looking for two more members. Psychic vampires had the ability to master any skill necessary. Because of Kevin's age, he was able to quickly acquire singing and dancing skills. Because of Nick's young age, his skills weren't as fine-tuned, but he'd been a talented child before his entrance into the underworld. Kevin and Nick both went for auditions at different times. As the auditioning continued, Kevin and Nick would run into each other, but they pretended as if they did not know each other. The three original members of the group and their manager had decided on Kevin and Nick without any persuasion on Kevin's part. Nick and Kevin just assumed it was meant to be. Now seven years later, Kevin and Nick made up two fifths of the most popular pop group in the world called The Backstreet Boys.
