Chapter 2
The Backstreet Boys were just coming off of a three-month
North American tour. The whole group was ready for a month and a half break that
would take them into the New Year, before they were to set out on another
two-month tour.
Nick and Kevin were in the entertainment room of the bus by
themselves. They were on their way back to Orlando, where each of the five boys
resided. "About what you said the other day Kevin. Do you really have to
move to LA?" Nick asked.
"I told you that you were more than welcome to come
out there with me." Kevin replied as he watched a football game.
"But you know I like it here in Florida." Nick
retorted.
"You know my reasons for leaving Florida Nick. I just
can't stay near Thora any longer. I'm expected to help all her victims now and I
just can't keep up. She knows I'm always here to save them, but that's going to
change. I'm going to teach Thora a tough lesson. I'm surprised you aren't more
anxious to get away from her as well." Kevin said.
"It's because I've always had you there to protect me.
If you leave, we both know she'll come after me." Nick said.
"You're much stronger now Nick. I'm confident that you
can fend Thora off. After all, she's only six years your senior. " Kevin
said.
"I wish I had your confidence Kevin." Nick said
as he sadly looked down at the floor.
"What are you so afraid of Nick? The whole underworld
knows you've been trained by the best. There are many people here that will
watch out for you." Kevin tried to assure Nick.
"I'm afraid of being alone." Nick said as he got
up and left the small entertainment room. Kevin heard Nick climb into his bunk
and close the curtain. Kevin was well aware that his leaving could cause Nick to
sink into a deep depression. Depression was something that all psychic vampires
struggled with. Kevin was able to hide his depression much better than most, but
Nick suffered with depression more than any other vampire he had known. Kevin
would have to consider Nick's feelings further before he made his final decision
about moving to LA. He feared that if Nick sunk to far into depression, he would
become too weak to survive. Nick had become like a son to him. He would do
anything for Nick.
"What did you say to him this time Kev?" Brian
asked as he stood in the doorway of the entertainment room.
"I think he's just tired and looking forward to
spending some time at home. This tour has taken a toll on all of us." Kevin
replied, not looking away from the TV.
"I'm worried about him Kevin. He seems awfully
depressed lately." Brian said.
"I know. I'm a little worried about him too. I'm sure
a vacation will lift his spirits though." Kevin said.
"I hope so. So what is this I hear about you possibly
moving to LA?" Brian asked.
Kevin made up his mind then and there. There wouldn't be a
move to LA. If the other members were noticing Nick's depression, there was no
doubt what Kevin had to do. He would stay with Nick for the time being. "I
was thinking of moving out there, but not right now." Kevin replied.
"I guess I'm gonna be the only one moving away from
the nest then eh. Leigh and I are looking forward to finding a house up in
Georgia in the next few weeks." Brian said.
"Georgia eh? That's where Leigh's family is
right?" Kevin asked.
"Yeah. And there's some really nice suburbs
surrounding Atlanta. That's where we're going to start our search." Brian
said.
"Good luck finding a place Bri." Kevin said.
"Thanks man. Well I'm gonna pack it in for the
night." Brian said as he retired to his bunk.
Kevin decided to pack it in as well. He needed to feed again soon. He noticed his energy level was low the past few days. Both Nick and Kevin had both agreed that they would never feed off a fan. So it would be nice to get home. It was always easier to find neutral victims while they were at home, living a more normal life.
