Chapter 5
When they first arrived at the club, everyone was glad to
see Kevin. Many of the women tried to make a pass at him, but it didn't take
long for everyone to figure out that something was seriously wrong.
"Well, well. Who do we have here?" Kevin heard
Halther's voice say behind him.
"We need to talk." Kevin said in a
non-threatening tone. Kevin knew that Halther knew very well what was going on.
"Do you want me to escort them out?" A large
security man asked.
Halther waved off the security man and said, "Come
with me."
Althea looked at Kevin uneasily, and Kevin tried to ease
her mind. He sensed that Halther would not harm them.
"When did you get back Halther?" Althea asked,
trying to start a conversation.
"Just a few days ago. Word got out to me about
something that was going down here. So I decided to come back." Halther
replied.
"So you knew that Thora was planning something
then." Kevin said.
"Yes. Unfortunately I didn't know anymore than that. I
was too far away to really get into her head. And she must have known people
knew she was up to something because she's been blocking all my attempts to read
her mind." Halther said.
"She can't keep that up forever. She can't fight off
all three of us for very long." Kevin said.
"You're right Kevin. If you want my help with this,
both of you are going to have to take orders from me." Halther said.
"I'll do anything to get him back." Kevin said.
"I'm surprised you've survived this long Kevin. You
get way too attached to the young." Halther criticized.
"We're both different Halther. Let's just accept that
and try to work together." Kevin said, hoping to keep the peace.
"I'm not doing this for you or for Nick. I'm only
doing this because I've wanted to bring Thora down for a long time."
Halther said.
"We both have our own reasons for doing this, but the
end result is the same." Kevin said.
"You get some of your people together and I'll recruit
some of mine. Until she weakens, we're just going to have to rely on the others
for information." Halther said.
"Where do you think she's taking him?" Althea
asked both men. Both men looked at each other and shrugged. "We already
know that Thora's in a weakened state to begin with. How long do you think she
can block Nick and keep us out?" Althea asked.
"Well I'm sure the two of you can pick up on Nick's
fear. It already means that she's in a weakened state. She's lucky if she can
keep this up for twenty-four hours." Halther said.
"Then we should be able to narrow in on her pretty
quickly then." Althea said.
"I don't think it's going to be that easy. She may be
young compared to the three of us, but she's not stupid." Kevin said.
"He's right. She's not going to give up him up very
easily." Halther said.
"You don't think she'd kill him would you?"
Althea asked a question that she was sure was on everyone's mind.
"No. She's not doing this for the kill. She wants Nick
for herself. She's mad at the two of you for taking him away from her."
Halther said.
"Nick would never have survived under her care."
Kevin said.
"We know that, but she doesn't." Halther said.
"So what do you suggest we do now?" Kevin asked.
He wasn't going to hide the fact that he needed guidance from Halther.
"We'll break up for tonight. I'll talk to my people.
You talk to yours. We'll meet back here at dawn and take it from there. We all
know how to contact the other if we find out something significant."
Halther said as he turned to walk out of the small room.
"I know you have your own reasons for doing this
Halther, but we appreciate your help." Kevin said.
"No room for sentiments Kevin. This could get pretty
down and dirty and you'll need to be prepared." Halther warned.
"I'd do anything for Nick. I may not use my powers to
their full potential very often, but I will in this case if I need to."
Kevin assured Halther.
"I guess we'll find out what you're really made of." Halther said as he left the room.
