Patrick Kelly was born on the 5th of December of 1977 in a trailer in Dublin,Ireland. It was a rainy December night and the storm roar outside the trailer, while Mama Kelly worked hard to bring a new child into the world. Paddy was born before the nurse came to the trailer, so Papa Dan helped Barbara-Ann. Because Paddy is the only Kelly born in Ireland he got the typical Irish name of Patrick. Paddy was five years old when Barbara-Ann died. "I remembered when we lived in Spain, we went every Sunday to a big river and had a picnic." "Our mom was a wonderful woman she always took care of us in the most loving way. When I was sick she made hot milk with honey for me, she sat on my bed and rubbed my hair with gentle moves. That was the best medicine!"
Already as a little boy he was an entertainer with lots of ideas. "When we, in the end of the 80's, lived on our houseboat in Amsterdam I had a garden. There I grew onion, parsley and potatoes. I also had a goat, her name was Heidi, but she never wanted to give me any milk, so I had to buy it on the market. There I also learned how to make cheese. At home I made fresh cheese and also butter of my own."
Paddy was a wild child...and a child with a lot of accidents!! Often in their games he got hurt. "Between my 7th and 10th year I was a regular custom at the hospital," Paddy said. "One time Joey tramped by mistake on my head in a dance scene and I had to get several stitches. When I was 9, I tried to stand on the way down in the glide in the swimming bath. I fell and my head bled so much. Another time I got the flute "Tin Whistle" in my mouth. If it had been 1 centimeter longer in the palate, it would have gone straight to my brain. I got operated during narcos." He goes on to tell about another terrible incident. "The most horrible was when I got stuck with my right foot in a cab. My sisters and brothers had to bend my foot, and the rubber boot I wore was filled with blood. I had to go with it bandaged for 1 month. The marks on my right foot I have there today." Luckily, Paddy is now free from accidents. :o)
At the age of 4, Paddy was on stage and sang. At 6 he presented his family. The first instrument he learned to play was the flute "Tin Whistle". At 8 years old he learned guitar, later also keyboard, bass, striking. Today Paddy and his sister Kathy are the musical "leaders" in the family. For the record "Over The Hump", he helped in the studio with the production. In the song "An Angel" there is a dream about flying. But any angel Paddy has not yet found. "When I was 14, I was really in love with a girl named Brenda. I even wrote her a song called 'Brenda My Love', but we moved from Amsterdam to Germany and I haven't seen her since," Paddy said. He is going to wait with love until the right girl comes, he said. Paddy is born as an entertainer. He presents his family at the concerts, brings children up to the stage and dances with them and he destroys the audience with cheek comments, like "We're gonna take a break for 20 minutes. We have to pee". Maybe that's why we LOVE the Kelly Family??? They are themselves and they can stand for what they say and do...and the fact that they play REAL MUSIC!
