Aphasia is one of the first Black Death Metal outfit to come out from the province of Québec. Born in 1995, the band has endeavored to make its mark on the scene with several ferocious gigs. Their compositions, with their progressive overtones, are powerful as hell while the hate and torment is mixed with the fragility and subtlety of nature... It's the calm before the storm!

Both vocalists each have their distinctive styles; Stéphane uses a high pitch-screeching voice while Philippe uses a bestial screams, either high or low pitch. The music is a mix of European type melodic Black Metal with a touch of North-American Death Metal. There are even some Thrash elements thrown in here and there...

Their new album, Arcane in Thalassa, is an ocean of fire, a sea that's been swept by great winds! The seven news compositions are Devastating Wind, Merging Process, Passion of Time, Beyond the Infinite Horizon, Learning from the Unknown Image, Cries from Despair and L'Absolu Ment. As a bonus track, the band added the track Stormbound (1996), which was then supposed to appear on a compilation that was finally never released.

The band is now very different since only Stéphane (guitars) remains from the original formation. The two new members are Simon (drums) and Philippe (bass) bring a new sound that is fresh, original and a whole new level of aggression and most importantly, a new unity.

Stéph's feelings, who wrote all of the lyrics with the exception of L'Absolu Ment (which has been written by Phil), are very palpable. The music was composed by Stéph and Jean-François Girard (former bassman and singer) and this, in the spawn of the three years which followed the release of their debut MCD. L'Absolu Ment was composed in early 2001, while Cries From Despair was composed in 1998.

The new album was recorded by Jean-François Dagenais (KATAKLYSM) behind the board, the same engineer as their debut. Arcane in Thalassa is the second album from the band (their first full length). It includes 8 cuts with over 50 minutes of music and it follows Beyond The Infinite Horizon, released in 1998 and which includes 4 cuts and 25 minutes of music.

Arcane in Thalassa is distributed in Canada by Spectrum Music Entertainment Catalog #: APH2002 and in the rest of the world by Grind It! Records , a division of Great White North Records Catalog #: G-IT003

Aphasia appeared on stage with such bands as: AGONY, ANHKREHG, ATHERETIC, DARKEST HOUR, DESTRUCTION, DIMMU BORGIR, DYING FETUS, CHILDREN OF BODOM, DICHOTIC, GHOULUNATICS, KATAKLYSM, MARTYR, NEURAXIS, SARCOPHAGUS, SKINLESS, TRANSCENDENCE and several local bands.

They have also done a few found raising gigs for the SANG FRAIS fanzine.
