Well, they are back with a new cd and you can see their brand new video now called "Army". Tomorrow (Wednesday, May 15th 1999) you will be able to see the brand new Backstreet boys video for the song "I like it That Way"! Britney Spears is back with the follow-up to "...Baby one more time", her second video called "Sometimes" will premiere the day after the new BSB debuts on MuchMusic at 12:00AM. Whitney Houston's follow-up to the hit "Heartbreak Hotel" called "It's not alright but it's ok" can now be seen in video form on selected video stations. Radiohead's new song from a soundtrack is called "Palo Alto". Brandy follows up her hit video "Have You Ever" with equally catchy hit and similar video called "Almost doesn't count". Fox's reality videos might not be such a reality

It turns out that some of the wild action on Fox's popular reality-based television specials may not be so real after all. The makers of the "World's Wildest Police Videos" were accused of staging some of the cases on its programs, and the network's other specials were accused of being misleading in a report Monday by the syndicated newsmagazine "Inside Edition." In one episode of "World's Wildest Police Videos," the show's host said that "our cameras were there when the call came in" about a felon on the loose in Lowndes County, Georgia. The segment, which aired March 25, showed the person using pepper spray on an officer and taking off on a high-speed car chase before being apprehended by police with guns and a dog. But "Inside Edition" quotes Sgt. J.D. Yeager of the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department as saying the tape was a staged re-creation of a chase that took place nearly 10 years earlier. The woman portraying the felon was actually a police officer. Fox said that in the future, any video that does not reflect reality would be clearly identified as such by a text message appearing on the screen.

Offspring to the big screen!

If you caught the horror flick spoof Idle Hands over the weekend, you may have been surprised to catch a glimpse of Offspring singer Dexter Holland. The singer's performance even surprised his bandmate, guitarist Noodles, who tells LAUNCH: "He did a great job...They actually did two takes of it, but he really nailed it the first take. And he had to. It was hours and hours of makeup. If he didn't get it the first time he would have had to sit through that again. He could have been there endlessly. But he really nailed it the first time. It's really funny. And I've got to say that it's very fun to watch Dexter get his head ripped off. It was pretty cool."

Police Arrest 23 Fans After Manson Cuts Show Short

Marilyn Manson stormed offstage an hour into his tour-closing concert Wednesday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, sparking a confrontation between upset fans and police that resulted in 23 arrests. Manson was angered by the sight of a smiley-face sticker onstage, according to Tammy Koolbeck, director of marketing for the Five Seasons Center, where the show was held. Manson was in the middle of a song around 10 p.m. when he noticed the sticker affixed to a podium that was part of his stage set, Koolbeck said. He then left the stage and a Manson staffer told venue employees that the concert was over and instructed them to turn on the house lights, Koolbeck said. Fans were upset and disappointed as they were cleared from the venue, and a small group of them gathered around a Manson tour bus parked outside, Koolbeck said. Twenty-three fans were arrested after they tried to damage the bus, which they believed Manson was in, according to Sgt. Mark Andries, public information officer for the Cedar Rapids Police Department. But Koolbeck said her understanding was that police asked fans to move away from the bus because they were blocking a nearby road. When fans didn't move, police tried to physically clear them away and "someone took a swing," Koolbeck said, which led to minor scuffles among the fans and with police.Within three minutes, police had arrested 23 fans and cleared the area, according to Koolbeck. Andries said fans were charged with crimes including public intoxication, disorderly conduct, failure to disperse and possession of a controlled substance.Ten other fans were arrested during the concert, but Koolbeck said those arrests were unrelated. "Any time we have concerts, there [are] arrests," she said. "Ten [is] on the low side." In a written statement released through publicist Jennie Boddy, Manson's booking agent contended nothing unusual happened at the concert. "Manson performed his usual setlist, less one song," said Alex Kochan. "It's not uncommon for artists to stray from their scheduled setlists." Kochan said Manson was not in the tour bus when fans surrounded it. Koolbeck confirmed the show was nearly over when Manson cut it short, but she said Manson omitted at least two songs -- "Antichrist Superstar" and "The Beautiful People" -- from his planned setlist. Manson's tour had five shows scheduled after the Cedar Rapids date, but Manson cancelled the rest of the tour earlier this week, citing the school shootings in Littleton, Colo. He said the cancellations were "out of respect for those lost in the school tragedy." He also said media accounts linking the alleged killers to his music were "irresponsible." Because of the charged atmosphere surrounding the shock rocker, venue officials "were geared up for trouble," Koolbeck said, and many more police were assigned to the Manson show than to a typical concert. The large number of police could explain the number of arrests, she said. Between 10 and 15 people demonstrated outside the venue before the show to protest Manson's presence, Koolbeck said.

They are back!

Fans of the Backstreet Boys can stop worrying. It's been more than a year and a half since their last album but the clean-cut five from Orlando, Fla., haven't changed. They're older now -- but not too much. "We're not trying to mature overnight into something that we're not," says Howie Dorough, 25. "We're trying to be better" Their new album, Millennium, will be launched May 18 in New York, where they released their last record, Backstreet's Back. On the same day, half a million copies will go on sale in Canada. The Quebec market has been assigned 100,000 copies. The group, whose hits include Quit Playing Games (With My Heart), begins a European tour in June that will last more than two months.

NeverMind the Spice girls

News from across the pond is that the Spice Girls' Mel C has started recording her debut solo album. Little is so far known about the project, though we suspect a rock 'n' roll edge should emerge from the US recording sessions. Sporty Spice is putting tracks down in Los Angeles and aiming to release the new material around October. The city seems to be providing plenty of inspiration as she has been spotted hanging out with the rock cognoscenti at Johnny Depp's notorious club, the Viper Room.

Lollapalooza Cancelled -- Again

for the second year in a row, has been cancelled after failing to nab enough big-name talent, according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter. Ted Gardner of Larrikin Management, who co-founded Lollapalooza in 1991 but has since sold the rights to the event to the William Morris Agency, was unavailable for comment at press time. A message at the William Morris Agency, who books the tour, stated that Lollapalooza organizers there were "on vacation." The agency is expected to make a formal announcement on the event's cancellation next week. Lollapalooza was cancelled in 1998 for the very same reason (allstar, April 3, 1998) and, given this year's cancellation as well, the future of the alternative rock festival appears bleak. Organizers were rumored to be trying to sign up such artists as Marilyn Manson, Offspring, Guns N' Roses, Sugar Ray, and Bush for the trek.

Marilyn Manson cancels tour

In the wake of the tragic shootings at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., shock rocker Marilyn Manson has elected to cancel the final five dates of his current tour. In a statement, Manson says he has made the decision "out of respect for those lost in the school tragedy." On Tuesday (April 20), two students attacked Columbine High, killing 13 and wounding 28. Marilyn Manson has been cited as one of the bands that may have influenced the shooters — members of a clique dubbed the "Trenchcoat Mafia." A concert in Denver, scheduled for April 30, was canceled last week, and protests have kicked up in other cities in which Manson was to play. "People are trying to sort out what happened and to deal with their losses," Manson says. "It's not a great atmosphere to be out playing rock 'n' roll shows, for us or the fans. The media has unfairly scapegoated the music industry and so-called Goth kids and has speculated — with no basis in truth — that artists like mysel f are in some way to blame. This tragedy was a product of ignorance, hatred, and an access to guns. I hope the media's irresponsible finger-pointing doesn't create more discrimination against kids who look different."

The Verve Split up

After months of intense speculation, the UK music press are reporting it's official: The Verve have split up ... again. Band leader and main songwriter Richard Ashcroft is holed up in Olympic Studios in southwest London working on his debut solo album. The rest of the band are reportedly working on 'their own projects'. In a statement, Ashcroft said: "The decision to split the band did not come without a great deal of distress to me personally. "I have always given everything to the band and would have continued to to so if circumstances had not made it impossible". "I would like to thank the fans for their loyal support and their phenomenal response to 'Urban Hymns'," he continues. "I feel more positive now a decision has been made - being in limbo isn't good for the soul. I can now move forward and put my energies into new songs for a new album". According to bassist Simon Jones: "The remainder of the band - myself, Nick McCabe, Simon Tong - are continuing to work on our own projects, while Pete Salisbury is currently working on Richard's new album. The rest of the band might even work with each other in the future. If this happens, it won't be as The Verve."

Last Lilith Fair EVER?

Sarah McLachlan says it's time to raise a family and end Lilith Fair -- perhaps forever -- after this year. "We're all well into our 30s now and we decided we wanted to have babies," the 31-year-old singer said Tuesday. McLachlan said she has always considered the tour a three-year plan, but she may organize a short Australian tour this winter. "This will be the last year for a good, long while," she said. "It could be three years, it could be 10 years, it could be forever." She hasn't considered letting someone else take over to keep Lilith Fair running. "I'm a bit of a control freak," McLachlan said. "I think it would be difficult for me to give it up because my name is so associated with it."

"I don’t know yet what song they’re doing together - it’s going through some incarnations."A source says, "It’s very hush-hush but it’s a very Fosterised production with excerpts from points in the century, pastiched lyrical references to events like the man on the moon or Martin Luther King that will work with a video."He says, "Knowing what David’s songs sound like, it’ll probably end up with big string arrangements and everything but the kitchen sink thrown into it. It’ll certainly lend itself to the end of the year."

Poor Britney Spears

While Britney Spears maintains there's nothing wrong with her racy Rolling Stone spread, potential tour co-sponsor Nestle is reportedly pulling their support. A source told The New York Post, "Once [Nestle] got a look at those Lolita-like pictures, they started having second thoughts." The David LaChapelle lensed photo spread depicted Spears in a series of seductive Lolita-style poses (or "bad little girl" as the New York Post calls them). One features Spears in a pushup bra surrounded by a collection of dolls, while in another, she's wearing a tight tube top and hotpants with the word 'baby' emblazoned on her rear, while holding a child's tricycle. The Rolling Stone article itself - entitled "Inside the Heart and Mind (and Bedroom) of America's New Teen Queen" - is also provocative, reading at times like a bad Penthouse Forum letter. It features such disturbingly overt phrases as: "Britney Spears extends a honeyed thigh across the length of the sofa" and "the baby phat logo of Spears' pink T- shirt is distended by her ample chest". In her own defence, Spears recently told MTV, "[Rolling Stone] tend to push the envelope a little bit, and that's cool, because it's 'Rolling Stone.' "And I've seen other people on the cover, and it's like, 'whoa!' But it's okay. I wouldn't do this for any other magazine, but because it is 'Rolling Stone'. I think it's fine and it's tasteful." Here is the picture...

The group were also aiming to be the first act since the Kids From Fame in 1982 to pull off the feat with albums that had not been released in the same week.Dominic Jones, who handles national radio promotions for East West, says the two albums’ continuing success illustrates the group’s broad appeal. “When you go to a Corrs concert there are people of all ages from really young to really old,” he says.Talk On Corners first topped the charts last June, and has now risen to the top on six separate occasions, spending a total of 10 weeks at number one. It's only the seventh album to spend 10 weeks at number one in the Nineties.

Geri Spice's new Album and single

Spice Girl Geri Halliwell releases her Shirley Bassey-sounding first solo single, Look At Me, on May 10. The song has been deliberately chosen as her first post-Spice Girls material in order to make a statement. EMI:Chrysalis managing director Mark Collen admits even he is surprised. "It doesn't sound like anything anyone expected," he says. "It comes somewhere between Shirley Bassey, Serge Gainsbourg and images of Tony Curtis driving around the south of France in an open-top Mercedes Sports car with Raquel Welch and her scarf blowing in the wind. It's certainly not a piece of bland pop. She's totally upfront. Her vision is complete and bang on and she's unbelievably receptive to the ideas of people she's working with. I've never worked with an artist like her."As with much of her so-far untitled album, Look At Me is co-written by Geri and the Spice Girls writing team of Paul Wilson and Andy Warkins. Wilson says, "I think the single will surprise people. Geri wanted to do something completely different but still keep her pop edge. This track has definitely achieved that."The video was shot in Prague last week by Vaughn Arnell, who directed the Brit Award-nominated videos Outside for George Michael and Robbie Williams' Let Me Entertain You. Collen adds: "The track makes a statement 'look at me' - so the video will represent the different strands of Geri: is she serious or ginger, saint or sinner, virginal or not?"Geri has been recording at London's Olympic Studios since January behind closed doors but dotmusic has learnt that only last week a 60-piece orchestra arrived for the sessions. The studio also contains several record boxes stuffed with classic 70s disco favourites that will doubtless influence the final product including future singles. Geri's new material was originally not expected until late in the year but her debut solo album could now be released as early as June. Her manager, Lisa Anderson, says, "She's powering on all cylinders right now. We were both keen to go early if possible, so we're delighted. But she was very prepared. She was able to go into the studio completely ready." Mark 'Spike' Stent, currently working as co-producer with Noel Gallagher on Oasis's fourth album, has mixed some of the tracks. The other co-writer on three tracks is understood to be Tracey Ackerman, who is believed to sing backing vocals on Look At Me, and who has enjoyed success writing with B*Witched.

Britney Spears Getting her own tv show?!

in Brandy's footsteps, teen recording star Britney Spears has inked a development deal with Columbia TriStar TV, which hopes to develop a series with the singer of "Baby One More Time."As the producer of the WB's "Dawson's Creek," Fox's "Party of Five" and the upcoming Fox drama pilot based on the feature "Cruel Intentions," Columbia quickly is gaining a reputation as the TV studio most tapped into the current trend toward teen projects."They have a great expertise in that area," said Rob Lee of Elephant Walk Management, which reps the 17-year-old Spears for film and TV. Also brokering the deal is her attorney, Larry Rudolph. As part of the 18-month development deal, Spears will star in a three-episode arc of "Dawson's Creek," and Columbia will try to develop a drama or comedy for her. Nothing will be ready for fall, and Lee said the series would have to fit into her recording and touring schedule."Look at the Brandy experience," Lee said. "One doesn't have to hurt the other, one feeds the other. The key is to time it so one doesn't get in the way of the other."Brandy stars in the UPN sitcom "Moesha" and continues to record albums.

New Videos To Look Out For

Jewel's video for "Down so long" is now playing at most music video channels. It's the first time that Jewel performs with her band in a video. She is really cute in this one. The video is a bit like "You we're meant for me" with the colors and the textures. Other than that, the song is very good. The new cranberries video for the song "Promises" was a big dissapointment for me, being a cranberries fan. I was hoping for an amazing song and video, but what we get is a pretty lame song and video. Hopefully it will grow on me soon, for now, it's pretty lame. Offspring debuted it's follow-up to "Pretty fly/For a White guy" on music stations this week. The song is called "Why don't you get a job. The song is AMAZING, I just love it, the video is also great, but not as good as "Pretty fly". Also , the fly White Guy from the previous video makes another appearence in this video. Shania Twain' s video for "Man, I feel like a woman" is now playing on Cmt and other Country music stations. The song is good and catchy, as are all of Twain's songs, I don't like the way she looks in the video. She has about 5 different looks with a bunch of men playing instruments around her. Another video that debuted this week is the new one by Blur, I haven't seen it yet, but it's there.

Geri Spice Pens autoBiography

Halliwell, AKA Ginger Spice, has just signed a book deal worth a reported one million pounds. The former Spice Girl will pen her autobiography for Transworld, the publishing house that won a fierce bidding war with Penguin for the rights to the story. The British rights will account for 500,000 to 600,000 pounds, with the U.S. rights making up the rest. "Geri is working on it as we speak," Patrick Janson-Smith, a publisher at Transworld, told the BBC. "We will probably have an edited typescript to go to the printers in May, and we aim to publish it in October." The book will cover Halliwell's rise from working class roots to the top of the pop charts, as well as her life after the Spice Girls. She'll also discuss her breast cancer scare and her work as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations, as well as for the charity Comic Relief. Halliwell is also reportedly working on a solo album that should see release later this year.

All Saints In A Movie

Saints are following in the Spice Girls' footsteps and launching themselves as film stars. 'Honest' - the movie, is set in London in the late 60's and tells the story of three sisters - played by Nicole, Natalie and Mel - who enjoy dressing up as men and robbing the rich. Ex-Eurythmic and Brit Lifetime Achiever, Dave Stewart started writing the film six years ago and is directing. He chaired a press launch on Tuesday morning, before they get to the real work of making the film: "It's a black comedy and it's quite tough and edgy and it's absolutely nothing like the Spice Girls movie, in fact it's not to do with the All Saints music or anything", he said. And Nicole added: "When we read the script we knew exactly who we were gonna be, before Dave even told us. And it was like 'oh my God, that's me. That's exactly how I'd feel, that's exactly what I'd do', and it's great". Nat says music will always come first but it just seemed like the right time to try something new: "We've always wanted to do it and it's fit in well with our schedule with All Saints. While we have the time we can do it… seven weeks, it fits in nicely, and All Saints is still us, but it's something we'd like to try out, y'know".The Executive producer of 'Honest' is Gary Smith, who says with recent British film successes like 'Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' a truly gritty British-made action film can't fail - but it's not just about three pop stars: "This is not an All Saints movie. These are three actresses - Natalie, Nicole and Melanie - who are gonna act in a serious film. As soon as Dave told us these three girls were interested the first thing we said was 'let's screen test them, let's have a look what they are like'. As soon as anyone sees that screen test they won't think of it as an All Saints movie".the talking is over - the filming gets underway in the Summer.

A University Professor Is Suing The Smashing Pumpkins

Princeton University music professor suing Smashing Pumpkins over their concert's noise level has received raucous feedback from fans of the alternative rock band. Peter Jeffery, a Gregorian chant expert, said Tuesday he has received nasty e-mails and telephone calls calling him "a jerk" and "stupid." "You join the ranks of the cretins who sue McDonald's for serving coffee too hot," reads one e-mail from a Smashing Pumpkins fan in Liverpool, England. "You should be ashamed of yourself." Jeffery, who is suing the band members, concert promoters and an ear plug manufacturer, says he suffered hearing damage while attending a 1997 Smashing Pumpkins concert with his 12-year-old son. The band has declined comment on the lawsuit. Jeffery, 45, said the damage is permanent and has affected his professional work because it is difficult for him to focus on music he is studying. Jeffery said about 20 people have either phoned or e-mailed him since news reports of the lawsuit surfaced late last week. "I can't believe the lawsuit is true," said a message on a telephone voice mail. "It's the most ridiculous, stupid thing I've ever heard of. You probably just hate your job. ... It so frustrated me I had to track you down because I think it's just total crap."

Coolio is back

Coolio will test his luck as a high-speed driver next month when he participates in the celebrity race of the Toyota Grand Prix. The Grammy-winning hip-hopper is required to take race-car driving lessons for the Long Beach, Calif., event. But there are so many diverse music-related projects on Coolio's plate in the coming months -- not to mention his ongoing courtroom drama -- that it's not as if he's a stranger to changing gears at high speeds. In the coming months, he'll be completing his next album, Dead Man Walkin, which is slated for an early-summer release. The wild-haired hip-hop artist is planning television projects, developing his own label and organizing a 15-city concert tour. He's also planning a studio-on-wheels tour designed to educate disadvantaged kids about the recording industry and to find undiscovered talent. A possible first single from the album is "The Bump" or "One More Night." Coolio plans to launch a 15-city tour this summer to hit major markets throughout the U.S. around the album's release date.

Chemical brothers ready for surrender

Chemical Brothers are set to release the long-awaited follow-up to their Grammy-winning 1997 album, Dig Your Own Hole, in late June. Titled Surrender, the upcoming 11-track album from the pioneering British electronica duo will feature contributions from such Brit-rockers as Primal Scream leader Bobby Gillespie, Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval, Oasis' Noel Gallagher, Mercury Rev's Jonathan Donahue and New Order's Bernard Sumner. "If the Chemical Brothers were to make a pop record, this is their pop record," said Sioux Zimmerman, the group's U.S. publicist. "It's a departure from Dig Your Own Hole in the sense that there are still those underlying Chemical beats, but sonically it captures what they do live. You get that feeling of when the songs build and build and build, then they drop back down and build again."

Enemy's next album, There's a Poison Goin' On, will be available for free on the rap group's official website "in maybe 40 or 50 days," frontman Chuck D said Tuesday.Chuck D, who also revealed plans to launch an Internet-based record label, gave more details about the album, which he said earlier would be offered for free downloading for four to eight weeks. He said the album is "85 percent finished" and its first single will be "Do You Wanna Go Our Way." "It's gonna be out there for a limited time totally free and then people can do what they wanna do," Chuck D (born Carlton Ridenhour) said. "Everybody's gonna be waiting to get physical copies of the CD. It's a good situation to be in." Chuck D's manager, Walter Leaphart, said Tuesday that Public Enemy has not finalized the logistics of releasing the album online. "There's a bunch of stuff on the table, and I'm researching all of it," he said. The rapper, who has been a vocal proponent of the near-CD-quality MP3 format despite the record industry's nervousness about MP3s, has yet to reveal the format in which the album will be posted. In December, Public Enemy posted several songs from an unreleased remix album, Bring the Noise 2000, in MP3 format at their site (www.public-enemy.com), but they were later removed -- at the demand of Def Jam Records, according to the rapper.

Pumpkins back in the Studio.

Smashing Pumpkins have spent the past few weeks in their Chicago studio recording the first batch of all-new material since the release of last year's Adore album, according to a spokesperson for the band. The trio -- leader/singer Billy Corgan, bassist D'Arcy Wretzky and guitarist James Iha -- have been recording a batch of new songs penned by Corgan, said the source, who requested anonymity. The songs are not earmarked for a specific release, although the music could end up on either a new studio album or an unspecified soundtrack, the source said. "Billy is just constantly writing [songs]," the source said of the wealth of new material the band has had to choose from while in the studio. "They've been in there a couple of weeks."Corgan recently spent a week in a Chicago studio scoring music for the upcoming film "Stigmata," which stars Patricia Arquette. Studio engineer Chris Steinmetz described the work as "very atmospheric, but it has a lot of energy and power. It had a lot of cool drum loops and aggressive, original sounds." Corgan recorded about 40 minutes of music, at least some of which likely will be issued on the film's soundtrack, Steinmetz said. The Pumpkins' source said it was unclear whether the new band material would be used in "Stigmata" or another, unspecified soundtrack.Although the band took a more electronic, baroque turn on such Adore tracks as "Ava Adore" (RealAudio excerpt) and "To Sheila" (RealAudio excerpt), the source said it is not yet clear what direction the new material will follow. The Smashing Pumpkins will be taking this week off while Corgan travels to Los Angeles to attend this year's Grammy Awards Wednesday night. The Pumpkins are nominate d for Best Alternative Music Performance for Adore. The Los Angeles Times and music video channel MTV both recently reported that ex-Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has re-joined the group. However, the source said the rumors of Chamberlin's return are "not true at this point."

Film critic Gene Siskel dead at 53

Siskel, a film critic known for his thumbs-up and thumbs-down reviews with fellow critic Roger Ebert on their popular TV show, died Saturday. He was 53. had surgery in May to remove a growth from his brain but returned to the syndicated television show "Siskel & Ebert" soon afterward. He announced earlier this month he was taking time off from that show to recuperate from the surgery. Siskel wrote movie reviews for the Chicago Tribune and TV Guide and also did reviews for "CBS This Morning" and WBBM-TV in Chicago. He had said when he announced his leave February 3 that he expected to return to the television show and writing his reviews this fall."I'm in a hurry to get well, because I don't want Roger to get more screen time than I," he said then. Paul Dergarabedian, spokesman for Exhibitor Relations Co., which compiles box office receipts, called Siskel's death a great loss. "He, along with his partner Roger Ebert, took film criticism into the mainstream," he said. "The average person would look toward them about whether to take their hard-earned dollars to the box office." Siskel and Ebert are perhaps the most recognizable movie critics in the nation. Their trademark "thumbs-up" and "thumbs-down" reviews became a benchmark for the movie industry. "Siskel & Ebert" garnered five national Emmy Award nominations. Siskel graduated from Yale University in 1967. He joined the Tribune in 1969. He and Ebert began their partnership in 1975 with the public television program "Sneak Previews." He also authored "Siskel's Flicks Picks," a nationally syndicated column. Siskel was one of the first broadcasters initiated into the National Association of Television Programming Executives and won several print and broadcast awards.

Celine Dion Denies Anorexia Rumors

Celine Dion wants the rumors about her being anorexic to stop. ``I don't have an eating problem, and there's nothing more I can say about that,'' she tells this week's edition of People magazine. Dion, who is 5-foot-7 and 115 pounds, said her thin physique comes from her high metabolism. ``I'm lucky,'' she said. ``If I had a problem with my health, I would let my fans know.'' The 30-year-old Canadian singer, who rose to fame with her rendition of the ``Titanic'' movie theme, ``My Heart Will Go On,'' stunned fans by saying she will take a yearlong break t o spend time with her husband, beginning next January. ``I can't wait to do normal things -- like just doing your own groceries, looking for your own tomatoes,'' she said. ``I just can't wait to get up in the morning and look awful. I'm looking forward to getting bored.''

Q-107 bans Alanis over Stern snub

Just one day after Ottawa si nger Alanis Morissette was in town to announce an 11-city Canadian tour in May, a Toronto radio station has decided to ban her music until she appears on The Howard Stern Show. Q-107 -- Canada's biggest rock station with 900,000 listeners weekly -- issued the ban yesterday in response to Morissette's refusal to appear on shock-jock Stern's New York-based syndicated talk show, Q-107's highly rated morning show with 590,000 listeners a week. In fact, Q-107's program director Pat Cardinal even called in to Stern's radio show yesterday morning to show his support and denied the ban was a form of blackmail. "All we're doing is supporting our morning show," Cardinal said. "We did the exact same thing with the Goo Goo Dolls before. They were on the show three days later. I think it's fairly common practice in the entertainment world for this kind of stuff. And it's just a case of Howard's our morning personality, and we're supporting Howard Stern." Cardinal also said some of Stern's other 50 affiliates in North America are banning Morissette, including K-ROCK in New York City, the biggest rock station in the U.S. with 1.5 million listeners. Morissette's Warner Music Canada reps in Toronto said yesterday that they would be issuing no comment on the Q-107 ban or Morissette's refusal to do Stern's show. Still, it's believed that Madonna, who owns the Ottawa-born singer's record label Maverick, has reportedly forbidden all her artists from appearing on Stern's show. "What's she so scared of me for?" Stern asked on his show yesterday of Morissette. "She doesn't have any skeletons in her closet. I've supported Alanis Morissette right from the start. I love her new record. I think she's great." Stern was also upset that Morissette has appeared on Rosie O'Donnell's show, especially since O'Donnell is a close friend of Madonna. A message left at the L.A. office of Morissette's manager went answered yesterday. He was with Morissette in New York, where she performed a concert in Long Island last night. As for how the ban might affect Morissette, Q-107 played her songs 20 times over the last week. "W e give her a significant amount of support," Cardinal said. "We play Alanis about three times a day."
