THE READING GUIDE :- 2000 line up nearing compleation.

READING

I am going to the Reading festival this year for my fourth time running. For anyone wanting to go this year for the first time we highly recommend this event, (although the bands on for the 2000 festival are a little on different side so it depends on your taste), and it has a great atmos. This year it is on 25th - 27th August and once again it will be split across 2 venues. As well as at the usual Reading ground it will also be held in Leeds with all bands playing a day later. The Leeds Dates are 26th - 38th August.

Last year Reading festival was a great comfort as we were all still in mourning for the death of Donington, which is only a few miles down the road from where I live. We took B-B-Q's and plenty of unusual food, (well, it was our only holiday last year so we made the best of it!) and we ate like kings while those around us ate cold baked beans. Talking of food, to buy it in the arena is very expensive, £4 for a tray of naked noodles, so we suggest you take the trouble to walk back to your tent when hungry and eat some of the rich's you brought with you.

TOP-TEN TIPS FOR READING:
!!!!!!!!!!1. DO NOT forget, 1 loo roll per person, very important if you want to survive without a 2 mile hike to town!!!!.

2. Bring as much booze as you can afford, it is also expensive to buy there, and by Saturday afternoon people will be wanting to buy it off you at a reasonable price. Beware cider drinkers, they do not sell cider in the arena or campsite shops.

3. Don't wait till you get there to buy your food at the supermarket like people on other festival pages advise, you can buy tinned breakfasts etc. months in advance at your local supermarket when they are on offer.

4. Money is quite important I suppose!

5. Get a program as soon as poss because when we went the first time we missed some of the bands we wanted to see simply because we didn't know they were on.

6. If you want to camp get there Thursday morning if possible, then you get a bit of a say where you camp,by the way always camp up-wind from the toilets, seriously!

7. Friends are a must unless you want be on your own, it's easy to make friends once you're there but there is nothing quite like the comfort and security of being surrounded by your chums and watching them get pissed and pass out! (this should actually be between 2. And 1. , I find this quite important)

8. DO NOT take anything that if stolen would ruin your weekend, it’s a good idea to take a little padlock to secure your tent. It dissuades steaming drunks from having a ferret round to find more booze/money/stereo etc. If looters come round they will get into your tent anyway if they want to. Good security tip, if you've got loads of mates camping with you, you can usually make sure that your tent doesn't remain unguarded for very long at all.

9. The reason I put TENT here at no. 9 is because everyone tends to sleep where they fall. It is a must however, for courting couples for the purpose of discretion when having a crafty shag when you get there! We also take a big double air bed for extra comfort, it means an extra trip to the car but it's well worth it if you're to spend 4 nights there.

10. A torch come in bloody handy, more than you would think in fact. Many a tent-line induced falls I have avoided on my late night trips to the bog. It also helps you to look for friends you may be concerned about at 4:00 in the morning.

National Express coaches direct to Rivermead Centre adjacent to site all parts of the country. There are also regular services to London, Oxford and other surrounding cities. Be aware that service busses will drop you at the main Buss station in Reading so like with the trains, you will either need to walk or take a taxi.

Cars

Plenty of parking at the festival site, just try to avoid the rush hours (8:15 – 9:30 and 16:45 – 18:00) as the town and motorways are usually gridlock at these times.
