May 2004Apologia: In the interest of setting the record straight: yes, this site has fallen into sad neglect, becoming more of an embarrassment to Chris than the tribute it was intended to be. And for that, I owe an apology to Chris, to his fans, and to those curious music lovers coming here in search of enlightenment. All I can offer in my own quasi-defense is this: when I first launched this site, maintaining it was a full-time job, and [finding myself between contracts, as it were] I was available to do the job. And there was really no other presence online promoting Chris as he deserved, so I was fulfilling what I saw as a real need. Since those primitive days, I have been sucked into the world of working full-time at something that actually pays me money, supporting a family, etc., etc. And Chris now has his own website, higher visibility thanks to his deal with a major label... essentially, I no longer have the time to keep this site current, and Chris no longer needs my efforts to spread the gospel. So this site has grown fallow, and no great harm has been done. However, to further set the record straight: none of this means that my own interest in Chris has lessened. I still follow his career as I’m able to, I still buy everything he has recorded as my finances permit, and I still stand behind everything I say here about Chris as an important -- no, essential -- jazz artist, one of the finest in the history of the music. And as time sporadically permits me to add info to these pages, I will continue to do so.
So take what’s here as a labor of love -- one that still has some (incomplete) informational value today -- and know that the love still lives on in me. Please enjoy your visit.
