Disclaimer: I in no way own or even remotely control the owners, writes, directors, etc.. of the Extreme Ghostbusters (though I wish I did) and/or I do not own or have anything to do with BKN or Sony. I'm just doing this for fun, my own interest, and for anyone (like me) who is obsessed with fan fiction.
Personal note: This is the second story in 'The Rivera Chronicles'. Again I thank Krista, for a) the jokes and b) for giving me the idea for the character, Cassandra, in the first place. She thought Eduardo needed a relative that he could talk to, Kylie needed a friend, and Garrett needed a girlfriend. So, she made up Cassy for my stories! I thank Erin who I'm using as a model for Cassy, she is the one I used to see what a headstrong, clever, quick-thinking, athletic, gymnastic, witchy-looking girl would be like. And since Erin seemed to fit the description, I used her! And I thank Jen; and the people at the GBFF, Doreen, Nora and all the others!
[A graveyard somewhere in New York City]
Eduardo fondly touched the cold headstone. He visited this grave many times over the last five years. Again he read the engraving, "Kali Tara River, 1981-1994. Rest little child, God holds you now." Eduardo smiled and knelt down to the grave.
"So Kali, Alitate, the guy who killed you, is dead. I kept my promise, Kali, I found another girl, just like you said. She's right here now, beside me. Kylie is realy great, I know you would like her, if you met her." Eduardo looked up at Kylie, who stood beside him. She smiled and nodded. Eduardo took Kali's leatherbound journal out of his backpack and placed it in a small, hand-dug hole beside the grave. "I think you might want this back" he said, as he used both hands to cover the book with loose dirt.
"Don't worry, Kali," Kylie said, as she placed a hand on Eduardo's shoulder, "I'll take good care of him!" Eduardo smiled.
"Good-bye, Kali," Eduardo said, then rose and brushed off his jeans. He put his arm around Kylie's shoulders. The two of them began to walk out of the graveyard. A gentle breeze began to blow.
"Do you smell lilacs?" Kylie asked, as she raised her head, letting the wind play with her hair.
"That's just Kali, saying 'Hello'," Eduardo smiled, pulling Kylie closer. She rested her head against his shoulder and wrapped an arm around his waist. They turned the corner and began to walk toward the firehouse.
When they arrived outside the firehouse, they stopped. "Do you think we should tell the guys about us?" Kylie asked. They looked at each other and shook their heads...
"No" they both said together.
[The firehouse]
Roland and Garrett were working on the Ecto-1. "So the way I see it..." Garrett started. "Eduardo and Kylie are either going to marry each other or..."
The door swung open and Kylie stormed in, obviously furious. Eduardo was hot on her trail.
"You have one messed up mind!" Kylie yelled.
"At least I don't look like I belong in a nightmare!" Eduardo roared back in his Spanish accent. Kylie headed up the stairs, Eduardo following, yelling at each other as they went, until their voices died out as they disappeared up the stairs.
"Or... what?" Roland asked, looking at Garrett.
"Or they'll both kill each other!" Garrett sighed. Roland nodded.
Upstairs Kylie began to laugh. Eduardo smiled. "That was so funny! I bet they never even thought for a MINUTE that we're together!" he chuckled. "That was a great idea, Ky!"
"Thanks!" Kylie replied. She walked to Eduardo, put her arms around his neck and looked right into his eyes. He put his arms around her waist. Kylie raised one hand and ran it down Eduardo's face. She playfully pulled on his goatee so his head was tilted down. Kylie leaned up and their lips locked.
"Excuse me..."
Kylie and Eduardo quickly pulled apart. "Uh... Janine... we were just... uh..." Eduardo looked at Kylie as if to say, what do I do?
"Don't worry, I won't squeal!" Janine told them. "I'm on my way downstairs and you two were sort of... in the way."
"Sorry!" Kylie said, her face was bright red, as she backed up to let Janine pass. "You swear you won't tell?"
Janine grinned. "Relax Kylie, my lips are sealed!" Janine walked downstairs.
"She won't tell," Eduardo said, "she knows how to keep a secret!" Kylie nodded.
Eduardo leaned down and kissed Kylie's neck. Kylie placed her hand on his cheek and smiled. She turned her head and kissed his forehead. Eduardo smiled back at her and they kissed again. After they pulled away, Eduardo asked "You want to go to dinner tonight?"
"Sure. I'd love to!" Kylie answered. They both walked arm-in-arm to the kitchen.
RING!!!! RING!!!! RING!!!!!!!!
Downstairs, Janine answered the phone. "Ghostbusters! We zap 'em, we trap 'em!" She paused for a moment, then continued, "Sorry, I thought you were calling for the Ghostbusters. Here Egon, it's for you..."
[LATER]
"Are you serious!?" Kylie exclaimed, "We're going to Miami!"
Garrett beamed, "I can't believe you won these tickets, Egon!"
"Glad you like them!" Egon smiled, "Because I'm not going!"
"WHAT!" everyone gasped.
"I have a convention to go to here in New York. You five can go."
"But there's a sixth ticket!" Janine noted.
"I'll return it for extra spending cash," Egon stated.
"We're going to Miami, compadre!" Eduardo shouted. He and Garrett high-fived. Kylie laughed.
"When do we leave?" Roland asked.
"Believe it or not, you leave tomorrow!" Egon answered. Janine grimaced.
"I can't go!" she frowned.
"Why not?" Kylie asked, surprised.
"My sister, Doris, is coming to visit. Darn!"
"Well, I suggest the rest of you all go home and pack. You can meet here at ten a.m. and catch the flight at eleven-thirty," Egon told them.
"Sounds good to me!" Garrett said. He began to wheel toward Roland's Mustang. "Can I catch a ride with you, Rolster?"
"Sure!" Roland walked to the Mustang. "See you tomorrow, guys!" he called as he backed out of the garage.
Kylie waved back. "I think I'll walk," Kylie said.
"I'll walk with you," Eduardo responded and they both exited the firehouse.
"Kylie and Eduardo? Walking together?" Egon was totally amazed.
"They resolved some of their differences," Janine respond, smiling to herself.
[Kylie's apartment]
Eduardo sat on the couch with Kylie. They ate pizza Kylie had ordered for them. It was about six o'clock and they were watching 'Buffy' on TV again. Kylie rested her head on Eduardo's shoulder. He wrapped both arms around her and pulled her close. She wrapped her arms around his waist and laid her head on his chest. She could hear his heart beat and feel him breathe, it was mesmerizing. Eduardo breathed in Kylie's perfume, ex'cla·ma'tion. The faint scent seemed to work like aromatheraphy, calming and soothing. He was glad they were together, boy would his old "pal" Raichu be disgusted.
Raichu was a boy who used to beat up Eduardo when he was younger. Until Eduardo met Cassandra. Cassy was Eduardo's cousin and she was the only one who could or would take on Raichu, and win. Eduardo always called Cassy "Angelface" because when he was first introduced to her when he was ten, he asked his mother if she was an angel. Cassandra had always called him "Baby Eyes" because she thought he had the most innocent-looking eyes. But that was in the past and he hadn't seen Raichu or Cass since he left home and came to New York seven years before.
Kylie pulled away from Eduardo and smiled at him. He grinned back. She, again, rested her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes. He began to softly sing a Beatles' song that Cassy had taught him, so many years ago.
Once, there was a way to get back homeward
Once, there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby.
Golden slumbers fill your eyes
Smiles awake you when you rise
Sleep pretty darling, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby.
In a minute, Kylie was fast asleep in Eduardo's arms. Eduardo rested his chin on her head and closed his eyes, falling under the spell of his own song.
[An airplane; eleven-thirty the next day]
"I could kill you two! You were late and we almost missed the boarding call!" Garrett scolded. The stewardess had let Garrett come on early so he could get out of his wheelchair, take a seat, and let the airport workers put his wheelchair in the back of the plane.
Eduardo turned around in his seat and looked back over the top of his chair at Garrett. "Blame Kylie! she was supposed to call my apartment and wake me!" Next to Eduardo, Kylie sat in the "seats two" chair. He wasn't about to admit they both fell asleep at Kylie's.
"Shut-up! Pagan walked across my alarm clock and reset it." Kylie smiled, but Garrett didn't see. Eduardo turned back around and sat down. If Garrett could see their faces now, he would see right through their lies. Eduardo grabbed Kylie's hand and squeezed it. She wrapped her fingers around his and smiled at him. Eduardo could lose himself in her green eyes forever. Their moment of solitude was interrupted by the plane taking off.
After two hours on the plane, Garrett was getting restless. His claustrophobia was getting to him. He looked around, wishing he could see what Kylie and Eduardo were doing. Kylie was probably reading and Eduardo was probably playing with his Gameboy. Garrett figured all he could do, to ride out the time, was sleep. Beside him, Roland was already asleep. Garrett shut his eyes.
[LATER]
Kylie stared out the window, watching the clouds fly by. "This is my first time on a plane" she said to Eduardo. Eduardo looked at her, her lips were drawn up in a silly grin and she looked so innocent.
"The last time I was on a plane, was when I moved to New York!" He told her. He stretched his arms "Boy, I'm hungry!" he remarked.
"Good! The stewardess is handing out dinner now." Kylie responded, pointing at the dinner cart.
Kylie turned around and knelt on the chair so she could see over the top. "Garrett! Roland! Get up, dinner time!"
"What?" Garrett asked, rubbing his eyes.
The stewardess stopped in front of Ed and Ky and handed them their food, then continued to the next row of seats. "Sandwich?" The stewardess held out a sandwich.
"Oh... Yea!" Garrett took the sandwich and the waitress handed one to Roland, who asked how much longer until they would land. "About 90 minutes," the stewardess replied.
[A Miami Hotel]
The four Ghostbusters entered the hotel lobby. "Snazzy place!" Garrett said, looking at the crystal chandeliers. Kylie rang the bell on the front desk and a hotel clerk walked behind the desk.
"Hi... reservations for Griffin, Rivera, Miller, and Jackson," She told him.
"Ah, yes! You're the contest winners!" the man answered. "This way. Leave all your luggage, our bellboy will get it." The four followed the man to the elevator.
"Oh no, elevator! Will you be all right, Garrett?" Eduardo joked.
"Lay off, Goatboy!" Garrett snapped. They rode up the elevator to the sixth floor and got off. The hotel worker lead them to a door in the middle of the hall. He opened the door to let them in.
"Wow!" Roland breathed. They walked into a large room with pink carpet and white walls. It had a white velvet couch, matching chairs and love seat. There were two TVs, one with a DVD player and the other had a Sony PlayStation. Along the right wall there were four doors.
"There are four bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. You can decide among yourselves who sleeps where. You have full access to the spa downstairs."
"Spa?!" Kylie grinned. The man nodded.
"I will leave you people to get settled. I trust you will all be at the party the hotel is throwing tonight?"
Did you say PARTY?" Garrett beamed, "We'll be there!" The man walked out of the room.
[LATER]
"Are you ready yet, Kylie?" Garrett asked, a little annoyed. "We're going to be late for the party!"
"Hold your tongue, Rollerboy!" Kylie scolded from inside her room. She opened the door and stepped out. Garrett's eyes widened in suprise, Roland's jaw dropped open and Eduardo cocked his head to the side and grinned. Kylie was wearing a short, spaghetti strap dress. The top of the dress was deep navy blue and the color gradually faded down the dress, all the way to the hemline, which was white. Over the dress Kylie was wearing a short, navy blue, translucent jacket. "What's everyone staring at?" She grinned. "Don't think the 'ice queen' can be a 'night angel'?"
Eduardo grinned and thought, *that's what she is too, a night angel!*
"Let's go!" Garrett yelled, as he headed for the door.
[The Dance Hall]
The four sat at a table and watched the people dance. "I'm not a dancer!" Kylie said, watching a couple whirl by.
"Why not?" Roland asked.
"I can't dance!" She said simply, "I never learned, or tried."
Eduardo stood up. "Come on then!" he said, grabbing Kylie's hands and pulling her up.
"What?"
Eduardo grinned. "I'm going to teach you to dance!"
Kylie's eyes widened in surprise and she let out a small disbelieving laugh. "No, I can't!" she said and shook her head. Garrett chuckled.
"Oh, come on!" Eduardo encouraged, leading her to the dance floor. Garrett snickered and Roland was trying hard not to break out laughing. Eduardo put one arm around Kylie's waist and held her hand with the other. Kylie placed one arm around Eduardo's shoulder.
"Just let me lead, you'll get the hang of it!" Eduardo whispered in her ear.
The song 'To the Moon and Back' by Savage Garden began to play and the couple began to dance.
She's taking her time making up
the reasons
To justify all the hurt inside
Guess she knows from the smiles
and the look in their eyes
Everyone's got a theory 'bout the
bitter one
They're saying, "Momma never loved her
much"
And, "Daddy never keeps in touch
that's why she shies away from
human affection"
But somewhere in a private place
She packs a bag for outer space
And now she's waiting for the right
kind of pilot to come
And she'll say to him
She's sayin'
Love would fly ya to the moon and back if
you'll be...
If you'll my baby
I've got a ticket for a world where we
belong
So would you be my baby?
She can't remember a time when she
felt needed
If love was red, then she was color
blind
All her friends well they've been tried for
treason
And crimes that were never defined
She's saying, "Love is like a barren place
And reaching out for human faith is
It's like a journey that I don't have a
map for"
So baby gonna take a dive and
Push the shift to overdrive
And send a signal that she's hanging
All her hopes on the stars
What a pleasant dream
Just sayin'
Love will fly ya to the moon and back if
you'll be...
If you'll be my baby
I've got a ticket for a world where we
belong
So would you be my baby?
Hold on, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, hold on
"Momma never loved her much"
And, "Daddy never keeps in touch
that's why she shies away from
human affection"
But somewhere in a private place
She packs a bag for outer space
And now she's waiting for the right
kind of pilot to come
And she'll say to him
Just sayin'
Love will fly ya to the moon and back if
you'll be...
If you'll my baby
I've got a ticket for a world where we
belong
So would you be my baby?
Love will fly ya to the moon and back if
you'll be...
If you'll my baby
I've got a ticket for a world where we
belong
So would you be my baby, yeah... Ooh ooh
Eduardo and Kylie glided safely out of the view of Garrett and Roland. "Ever had the feeling a song was written about you?" she asked.
Eduardo looked into Kylie's eyes, he knew what she meant. Like the girl in the song, she had been abandoned by her parents, she didn't have many friends because she was afraid of being hurt. Now she had let her guard down to let Eduardo in and she let him be a part of her dreams. He smiled and nodded. Kylie put both arms around Eduardo's neck and they kissed.
A gang of five young thugs sat around a table, not far from the dance floor. "Hey, Raichu, isn't that Eduardo?" a blond-haired guy asked an auburn-haired guy next to him. Raichu shook his head.
"Couldn't be!" he said, "Eduardo moved to New York years ago, before we came here, Manuel!" The blond boy, Manuel, shook his head and pointed towards Eduardo. "I think you should take a look."
Raichu took a gulp of his drink and looked up. He spat out his drink and stared at Eduardo and Kylie.
"I'll be damned!" he said, "It is Eduardo! A lot older but I'd know him anywhere!" Raichu glared at Eduardo. "It's time to be reintroduced to our old 'friend'!" Raichu punched his fist into his palm.
Kylie and Eduardo pulled apart and Kylie smiled. "Maybe we should go back before Garrett and Roland get suspicious," she whispered, playing with his goatee.
"Mm hmm..." he smiled and kissed her again, Kylie giggled and kissed him back. They pulled apart and began to walk back towards their friends on the other side of the room.
"Let's go out for some air," Kylie suggested, before they got to Garrett and Roland. Eduardo nodded, agreeing that it was a little too crowded in the room. They both walked out a side door.
[An alley by the hotel]
Eduardo and Kylie stumbled out the side door into the alley, laughing.
"Hello Eduardo," an ominous voice said from behind them.
Eduardo spun around. "Raichu!" he growled, pushing Kylie behind himself.
"That's right, Eduardo, defend the girl," Manuel snarled.
"Manuel! I outta deck you!" Eduardo threatened.
"Is that anyway to treat old friends?" another gang member snarled.
"Eduardo who are these people?" Kylie's voice shook with fear.
"Kylie, run!" Eduardo shouted. Kylie and Eduardo turned and ran but the gang overtook them. Manuel grabbed Kylie in a death grip and she screamed in the pain. Raichu swung Eduardo around and punched him, knocking him to the ground. Raichu grabbed Eduardo's shoulder, pulled him to his feet and punched him in the stomach. Eduardo gasped for breath.
"It's been so long Eduardo!" Raichu snarled and decked him again. "Gimme the girl," Raichu told Manuel. Manuel shoved Kylie in Raichu's direction. Deserting Eduardo, who was doubled over in pain, Raichu grabbed Kylie and pulled her arm far behind her back.
"Owww!" Kylie gasped. Manuel grabbed Eduardo by the collar and slammed him against the wall. Eduardo slid down the wall. He hurt all over, and worst of all, Kylie was in danger.
"Pretty lady..." Raichu sneered.
Suddenly somebody tapped Raichu's shoulder. He turned his head to see a medium-height brunette behind him. She was dressed all in black and had witchy-looking makeup. She grinned childishly and waved. "Hi," she smirked, then she slammed her fist into Raichu's jaw with an impressive right hook. Raichu was thrown to the ground, letting go of Kylie. The rest of the gang turned from Eduardo to see the girl standing there. "Hi guys, did you miss me?" she grinned and kicked one of them in the stomach. Eduardo jumped up and punched Manuel, who was also sent sprawling to the ground. Kylie ran down the alley and ducked down behind some boxes. She watched as Eduardo and the mysterious girl beat up the gang. The girl grabbed Raichu by the collar and practically pulled him off his feet. "I thought I told you to get the hell out of my side of town!" she roared.
"I can explain..." Raichu stammered. The girl slammed him into the wall and dropped him.
"Get the hell out!" she screamed at the gang, pointing to the end of the alley. Raichu, Manuel and the gang scrambled to their feet and split. The girl smiled a little half-grin.
Eduardo ran to Kylie and knelt down beside her. He pulled her close. Then, the mysterious girl walked over to them and she knelt down and looked at Kylie. "You OK, chica?" she asked.
Kylie took a good look at the girl. All her long, dark hair was tied up in a low ponytail, except her bangs and two thin wisps of hair that framed her face. She was pale-skinned and she wore a deep burgundy lipstick, heavy navy eyeliner and gray eye shadow. She was wearing a black spaghetti-strap tank top, overlaid with an open black blazer, and a pair of black jeans.
"Kylie?" Eduardo asked.
"I'm fine," Kylie responded, "just shaken..." She wrapped her arms around Eduardo's neck and he held her close.
The strange girl stood up. "Raichu and his gang are bad news!"
"Yea," Eduardo agreed, as he and Kylie got to their feet. "You don't have to say that twice!"
"Your voice," the girl spoke to Eduardo "It's so familiar! Do I... know you?" Eduardo looked carefully at the mysterious girl. Her jaw dropped open, "Baby Eyes!" she gasped.
"Angelface?" he looked at the girl in surprise.
"Eduardo!" the girl cried and threw her arms around his neck. "Cassandra!" He laughed, delighted. Cassandra let go and he turned to the very confused Kylie. "This is my cousin, Cassy!"
Kylie smiled and held out her hand in a friendly way. "Cassy, this is my lady, Kylie!" Cassy shook Kylie's hand.
"I wish we could have met under better circumstances," Cassy smiled.
"Likewise. You're an Aquarius, right?" Kylie grinned back.
Cassy grinned. "How'd ya know?"
"Your tattoo," Kylie pointed at Cassy's tattoo, the symbol of Aquarius, half hidden under Cassandra's shirt strap, just below Cassy's shoulder.
"I forgot about that," Cassy grinned.
[The hotel room]
Eduardo sat on the couch holding a icepack on his blackened eye. Cassy sat on a chair while Kylie was next to Eduardo on the couch.
"That's my story!" Cassy finished, "I didn't know Raichu and Manuel were around here, either. I just moved!" Cassandra had taken out her hairband and her hair, about the same length as Kylie's, hung loosely over her shoulders.
"Where do you live now?" Eduardo asked.
Cassy shrugged. "I have an apartment across town. Run down old place."
"You could stay with us for the night," Kylie suggested.
"You would let me?" Cassy asked.
Kylie nodded, "Sure, if you don't mind sleeping on the sofa."
"Cool!" Cassy grinned.
Suddenly, the door opened and Roland and Garrett entered.
"Where were you two?" Garrett cried. Eduardo took the icepack away form his face revealing a swollen, blackeye. "What happened to you?"
"Got in a fight with some old 'friends'," he answered. "Luckily, my cousin was around and she helped kick their butts!" He waved a hand toward Cassy. For the first time, Garrett noticed Cassandra, sitting and watching him with an arched eyebrow, and half-smiled. Garrett wheeled over to her and Cassy stood up.
"Cassandra Rivera, but you can call me Cassy," she said, holding out her hand. Garrett took her hand and gently kissed the back of it.
"Garrett Miller," he breathed, never letting his eyes leave Cassandra's face. Cassy smiled warmly. "Pleased to meet you, Cassy."
"Likewise," Cassy said, slowly removing her hand, but never letting her eyes leave Garrett.
"Oh no," Eduardo whispered to Kylie, "I think Garrett likes my cousin!"
Kylie arched her eyebrow "I think your cousin likes Garrett!" she replied, as Roland introduced himself to Cassy.
[An old warehouse]
"I'm sorry, mistress! I beg mercy!" Raichu pleaded. A tall black-haired woman, dressed in white emerged from the shadows.
"I could kill you again now," she scowled.
"Please no! I've only just died!"
"And I bought you back to life! All I ask of you is kill that Rivera girl! And what happens? She beats you! You're as worthless now as you were a corpse!"
"Please give me another chance!"
"Do I have a choice? You are the only one fit to fight! Manuel I have to fix, and as for the others, I just re-killed them."
Raichu hung his head, his only friends were dead, again, and Manuel wouldn't be around for a while.
A white, swirling portal appeared next to the woman. In the portal a picture appeared, the picture was of Eduardo. "What's this?" the woman breathed, "How convenient, another Rivera. That saves me time, a two-for-one special!"
"Spectra, how come you want the Riveras dead anyway?" Raichu asked.
The woman, Spectra, smiled. "Long ago, in 1745, Antonio Rivera burnt Melena Deaditite at the stake for witchcraft. That girl was me! How long I have waited for revenge, Antonio didn't realize how powerful a witch he was killing! I, Spectra, no longer Melena, the most powerful witch in the world will receive that revenge. I've wandered the world for years, hunting the Riveras down and now I have them! Now, every Rivera will die, one by one. Starting with those two!" Spectra pointed into the portal at the pictures of Cassy and Eduardo...
Eduardo restlessly tossed and turned in his sleep... Out of the dark a woman emerges, it takes him a minute to realize she is not Kylie, but a tall black-haired woman with stormy brown eyes. She walked toward Eduardo, who was now standing in the center of the blackness. "Who are you?" he asked.
"I was Melena," she girl smiled, as she walked behind Eduardo. She rested her chin on Eduardo's shoulder. Eduardo couldn't move. "But now," she whispered evilly "I'm Spectra!" The girl put her hand over Eduardo's eyes and suddenly it felt like he was falling. He looked down to see he was falling towards a lava river! He screamed...
Eduardo sat, bolt upright, in cold sweat. He gasped for breath. It felt like someone had ahold of him by the throat, squeezing hard. He couldn't breathe at all, he coughed and gasped, but he couldn't get a breath. He writhed on the bed in pain, the room was going blurry and fading in black. He felt hands around his neck, he looked up and saw Spectra standing over him, strangling him, a look of pure evil on her face. He drug himself from the bed, and still gasping for breath, pulled himself to the wall and began to bang on it.
"Forget it, Rivera boy."
He thought he heard Spectra's voice laugh. Then, faintly, from the next room he heard a voice.
"Eduardo?" Kylie called.
Eduardo gasped for breath and banged again. He felt dizzy and fell back onto the floor, writhing about, trying to break free from Spectra's grip. Kylie threw open the door to the room to see Eduardo lying on the floor panting for breath, appearing as if he were trying to break free of some unseen attacker. "EDUARDO!" she screeched and ran to his side.
"She's choking me!" he gasped.
"Who!?" Kylie saw white, hand-shaped marks about Eduardo's neck, as though someone had ahold of him and was choking him. Kylie ran her hands around Eduardo neck, she could feel another set of hands on his throat. Her shoulder brushed something, something that was trying to kill Eduardo. Kylie pushed hard at the presence. Suddenly Eduardo began to cough, he could breathe again. Eduardo saw Kylie push roughly in Spectra's direction. Kylie shoved Spectra to the ground, releasing her grip from around his neck. He took a few grateful gasps of air. He watched Spectra spring up. He knew Kylie couldn't see the woman.
"Fine!" Spectra screamed in rage.
"Eduardo, are you OK!?" Kylie asked.
Eduardo watched Spectra storm out of the room. "SHE'S AFTER CASSY!" He screamed, jumping up.
From the room Cassandra was in, a loud scream was heard. By this time, all the commotion had awakened Garrett and Roland.
"What's going on!?" demanded Garrett, as he exited his room. Eduardo ran past him. Cassy was sitting on the floor at the end of the sofa, gasping for breath. Her hands were at her throat, as if she was trying to pull an unseen hand from her neck.
"What's wrong with Cassy!?" Garrett yelled. Eduardo knew full well that neither Kylie, Garrett or Roland could see what he did. Spectra, like she tried with him, was now trying to strangle Cassy.
"Who are you!?" Cassy gasped to the woman strangling her.
The woman smiled sinisterly. "Spectra..."
Cassy screamed, as the images of what Spectra had planned and what had happened in Spectra's past, flooded her mind.
"Hands off my cousin!" Eduardo yelled, as he ran to Cassy. He hit Spectra full force and sent the spirit flying across the room.
"You may have won this time!" Spectra screeched, "But I WILL be back!" Spectra then disappeared.
Eduardo helped Cassy up. "Are you OK, Cass?" Eduardo asked.
"I... I... I saw what she's planning to do," Cassy gasped. "She's going to kill off every Rivera, one by one until there's not one left. And we're next..." Cassandra glanced at the spot Spectra had vanished from. Eduardo looked at the three other people watching them, looking VERY confused.
"I think we all need to talk..." Eduardo said, quietly.
[LATER]"So there's a witch, who wants revenge on the Rivera family because one of their ancestors killed her?" Roland asked.
"And she'll stop at nothing to wipe every last one of us off the face of the Earth," Cassy lowered her eyes. She just had explained all the things she had seen telepathically.
"I think we all should get some sleep," Kylie suggested. She glanced out the window to see dawn beginning to break on the horizon. Eduardo nodded. Each of the gang, except Kylie and Eduardo, walked slowly to their rooms. "Do you want to sleep in my room?" Kylie asked Eduardo. He nodded and followed Kylie into her room. "Go to sleep Eduardo," she said lovingly. Eduardo lay down on the bed. Kylie pulled the blankets up over him, then crawled into the bed herself.
Eduardo's face was full of fear and he was trembling. Kylie wrapped her arms around him and pulled him close. He rested his head on her chest and closed his eyes. Kylie gently sang the lullaby that Eduardo had sung the day before.
Once, there was a way to get back homeward
Once, there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby.
Golden slumbers fill your eyes
Smiles awake you when you rise
Sleep pretty darling, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby.
Eduardo drifted off to sleep. Kylie then closed her eyes.
[An old warehouse]
Spectra screamed in rage. "Spectra..." Raichu started.
"SHUT-UP!" she screamed, looking as if she was about to tear out her artistically-styled hair. She paced up and down the floor. "Not only do they refuse to give up, that Eduardo is a Ghostbuster, and what am I? A GHOST! No wonder that girl who saved him knew where I was! She is a Ghostbuster, too, and is used to dealing with spirits!"
"Spectra! The Ghostbusters, Eduardo, Garrett, Kylie and Roland, can do nothing! They don't have their equipment!"
"And I'm far too powerful for them. But never underestimate the enemy. That Cassandra now knows all I plan to do, and that can be a defeat in itself. So my love," she paused and glanced at Raichu, "I guess we'll just have to get rid of them all..." Spectra narrowed her eyes and her lips drew up in a sinister smile.
[The hotel room]
"We need our equipment!" Garrett stated.
"But how do we get it here?" Roland asked.
"FedEx?" Cassy suggested. Eduardo had explained to her that they were Ghostbusters and, surprisingly, she easily adjusted to the news. Cassy was stretched out across the couch, the same way Eduardo does when he's at the firehouse.
"Nuclear accelerators?" Kylie reminded.
"You said you had a goblin living in the firehouse, can't you just get him to carry the stuff down here?" Cassandra was racking her brains trying to figure something out.
"That just might work!" Roland exclaimed.
"Yea, if Slimeball wasn't so lazy! We'll be dead by the time he gets here!" Eduardo cried.
"He has a good point," Garrett agreed.
"Send him FedEx!" Cassy joked.
"You know..." Kylie rested her chin on her hand, thoughtfully, "That might do the trick!"
"Huh?" Garrett crossed his arms.
"If Egon put some sort of proton "blocker" on the guns and traps, Slimer could swallow it all and he could put Slimer in a box. The box would then go through the airport's checkpoints, and they wouldn't see the accelerators. Once the box is in the cargo hold and before the plane takes off, he could spit it up and fly home." Kylie explained.
"It might work... if Egon will do it!" Roland mused.
"Grab the nearest phone!" Garrett cried, with his usual enthusiasm.
[The firehouse]
RING!!!! RING!!!! RING!!!!!!!!
"Ghostbusters," Egon spoke into the phone.
"Egon!" Kylie's voice came over the line, "Egon, something's gone terribly wrong down here...
[The hotel room]
Kylie hung up the phone. "Slimer says he'll do it!"
"YEA!" Garrett cheered.
"Uh, guys..." Cassy started. She spread the newspaper she was reading across the table. "Take a look at this obituary." Eduardo looked at the picture and gasped.
"Raichu!" Kylie arched an eyebrow at Eduardo.
"The guy who almost killed us in the alley?"
"Yes," Cassandra frowned, "but, according to this he's dead. He died last week!"
"That's not right!" Eduardo cried. "He was alive when we meet him last night in the alley!"
Cassandra closed her eyes. "I think I know. Spectra raised a few people from the dead, to help in her plan."
Eduardo crossed his arms. "And who better to raise than the 'Rivera Haters Club'." He pointed to the article at the bottom of the page. "Manuel and all the others died with him."
"Someone did their homework," Kylie smirked. Of course, she was referring to Spectra. Eduardo and Cassy nodded in agreement.
"Great! So the witch raises the dead, too!" Garrett cried.
"Stop whining!" Kylie snapped.
"Yea! That's Eduardo's job!" Cassy added, as she turned the newspaper page. "What?!" she exclaimed, when suddenly all eyes were fixed on her.
"That's Kylie's line!" Roland said.
"Sorry, it's just that Eduardo was always the whiner of the family!"
"I resent that," Eduardo frowned.
"When he wasn't refereeing the family fights, that is," she added.
[New York airport]
"This one's clear, Charlie!" a worker calls. A large, make that HUGE, box, gets slid through an X-ray machine and is deposited into the baggage compartment of a large jet.
"Yuck!" one of the workers moaned, as a bit of green slime fell out of the box, onto his shoe. "What's in this!?" The other guy shrugged and stamped "AIR MAIL RUSH DELIVERY" on the carton.
Inside the box, Slimer spits out the guns, traps and PKE meters. He listens for all the footsteps and voices to stop before flying out of the box.
[Old warehouse]
Spectra watched the moon slip slowly across the sky. The fire of insanity burned in her eyes. Whatever had once been Melena, any compassion or righteousness she had once had, was gone. Raichu walked up behind her and put his hand on her shoulder. She seemed not to notice and silently kept her gaze on the moon. Suddenly a cold blast of electricity shocked him and he was sent sprawling to the ground. Spectra kept her gaze out the window. "I told you before Raichu..." she sounded like she was possessed, "I'm not one for pity. You're in my game!"
"It was worth a try," He said. Disgusted, he stood up. "You don't win over easily, do you?!"
"I have only three emotions: hate, vengeance and pride" She stood in silhouette, against the moonlight that crept in the window. "Tomorrow night revenge is mine!" Her sinister laughing echoed through the room.
[The hotel room: the next day]
Roland rummaged through the box of gear they had just received and sorted it out. Kylie fondly picked up her gun. "What if the guns break and Egon's not here to fix them?" she asked, while checking for damage.
Cassy shrugged and held up a PKE meter.
"Egon sent extras," Roland said, pulling out another "girls' gun". Kylie grabbed her black unitard and armor and went into her room. Eduardo came out of his room wearing his usual ghostbusting outfit: a green shirt, brown pants and orange vest.
"What does this do?" Cassy asked, turning the PKE meter over in her hand.
"It tells you if a ghost is or has been around," Roland answered. Cassy picked up the other "girls' gun", as Garrett began to put together a proton pack. Cassy aimed the gun careful and shot off a quick blast. The vase she aimed at blew up. Eduardo ducked as the fragments flew around.
Cassy let out a "whoop" of delight. "I have GOT to get me one of these!" she cried, holding the gun up.
Roland took the gun from her. "I don't think you should have this."
Cassy crossed her arms. "I don't see why I can't help! She's out to kill me, too, you know!" Her green-blue eyes flashed.
"It's too dangerous!" Roland said, putting his pack on.
"Yea, Cassy," Garrett chimed in, "I..." Garrett caught himself, "WE don't want you to get hurt."
"Hey, I'm not some delicate flower here! I've spent half my life in this crime-infested city!" Cassy pointed out the window where the sun was setting, "And I know how to take care of myself!"
"Sorry, Cass," Eduardo sighed, as Kylie came out, suited up. "You're gonna have to sit this out."The four Ghostbusters left the room with all the equipment. They headed out to get Spectra before she got them. Earlier, Cassy had told them about the warehouse location she had seen and they left to see if the witch was there.
Cassy looked around at the empty room and looked at the door. She smiled thoughtfully...[The old warehouse]
The four Ghostbusters entered the building and Kylie's PKE meter sprang to life. "Something's here..." she said, quietly. The four took their guns out and began to walk into the building. "We should spilt up, Roland you go with Garrett and I'll go with Eduardo." Kylie said. The others nodded and they paired off. Kylie and Eduardo walked to the stairs and went up them. Kylie held out her meter and it began to jump off the scale as she pointed to a locked door. She motioned toward the door and Eduardo nodded. He backed up a bit and ran into the door, they heard the wood splinter and the door collapsed under Eduardo's weight. They walked through the hole in the door.
Spectra stood in front of a wide window that took up most of the room. The moon hanging low in the sky made her body seem completely black, and you wouldn't know it was her, except that her eyes glowed an eerie yellow. "Welcome to my home," she said, not moving a muscle. "Why don't you stay awhile!" She smiled evilly and her eyes flashed. She turned in their direction and shot a fire ball at them. Kylie screamed.
Eduardo pushed Kylie and they both rolled out of harm's way. Spectra walked toward them.
She held her hands above her head and her face showed no pity over what she was about to do.
Between her hands a ball of white lightning began to form. "This is my lucky day," she sneered,
"TWO for the price of ONE!" She prepare to throw the ball...
Kylie reached for her gun, only to find it wasn't there. She looked across the room, it had fallen off and was lying about 12 feet from her. "My gun!" she cried.
Spectra let out a sinister laugh and was about to throw the lightning at the two Ghostbusters, who were still lying on the floor.
Suddenly, a dark figure jumped out of the rafters. The girl hit Spectra with a powerful karate kick and they both tumbled onto the ground. The girl rolled away, grabbed Kylie's gun and sprung to her feet by the use of a back flip.
"YOU GO, CASSY!" Eduardo yelled out, in delight. Cassy shot at Spectra, who was struggling to her feet. Spectra screamed loudly.
Garrett and Roland burst into the room. Raichu suddenly ran out of the corner and charged at Cassandra, sending her sprawling into the ground. Cassy hit the floor and purposely tumbled backwards, regaining her footing and jumping up. "Not this time, dead boy! No one messes with a Rivera!" she yelled, as she shot Raichu. Raichu looked at the hole that now went through the center of his stomach and then looked at Cassy, who rested the gun on her shoulder. Raichu fell backwards hitting the floor with such a force that some of the boards broke.
"Raichu!" Spectra screamed and ran to his side. She looked at Cassy, her eyes filled with hatred. "You killed him," She hissed.
"No, I re-killed him!" she said. By this time, Kylie and Eduardo were both back on their feet. The gang shot at Spectra and Kylie prepared the trap. Before the streams reached Spectra, she and Raichu's body disappeared. From somewhere in the room Spectra's voice screamed. "I will kill you all! I won't rest until you're all dead!"
"Thank god you are a professional gymnast!" Eduardo said to Cassy. "You have some great moves!"
Cassy gave the gun back to Kylie. "Thanks for loaning me your gun."
"Anytime."
"How did you get here?" Garrett asked.
"Also, thank God that Cassy doesn't like being told what to do!" Eduardo smiled, crossing his arms.
"Bad habits are hard to break!" Cassandra giggled.
Eduardo uncrossed his arms and cocked his head to the side. "You didn't!"
"I did!" Cassy looked very proud of herself, as she crossed her arms.
"What did she do?" Roland looked at Eduardo. Eduardo looked at Roland and then back at Cassy.
"She hailed a taxi, knocked out the driver, then hijacked the cab!" he answered. He shook his head, but smiled. "She's been doing that since she was ten!"
Cassy grinned, "Be happy, that's the first time I've done it in five years!"
"Pray you don't run into any cops!"
"No cab driver in this city would rat! They know the police won't even bother, there's too many other things going on this city - robberies, assaults, murder. Every three hours, someone is murdered in this city," Cassy explained, as the group headed for the door.
"Dangerous town," Garrett said.
Cassy nodded, "You better believe it!"
"Let's go back to the hotel, we need a new plan of action!"
[The warehouse]
Spectra sat on the floor with Raichu's head in her lap, playing with his hair. She pointed at the center of the room and a stone alter appeared. She easily lifted his limp body and laid it on the alter. Manuel appeared in the corner and walked to Spectra. "I feel strange," she said, "It almost feels like I don't want him gone."
Manuel looked at Raichu. "It's called remorse," he responded.
"They won't get away with this," she growled. She smoothed down Raichu's hair, "I won't let them."
"I thought you said you felt no pity, sadness or love." Manuel spoke coldly. Spectra's sad and hate-filled face changed to a sinister evil. She looked at Manuel and her eyes sparkled in an almost insane way. "The fun's over, the rules have changed." She pulled her hand over Raichu's wound and it instantly healed. She bent down and pressed her lips to Raichu's. She stood up again and held her hand over Raichu. "Get up!" she demanded, coldly. Raichu's eyes fluttered open, then he closed them again.
"It's no use, Spectra. He was too badly hurt. He won't live again!" Manuel shook his head.
Spectra screamed and fell to her knees. "SOMEONE WILL PAY FOR THIS!" she shrieked. She stood up and held Raichu's hand, flames leaped from behind her eyes and suddenly the alter caught fire. She stepped back and watched the alter and Raichu's body burn. "I promise, my love," she breathed, "They will all die, I'll kill them all, let blood beget blood. By Friday morning, they'll all be dead."[The hotel]
The gang worked hard at teaching Cassy all they knew about ghostbusting. They thought it was wise to recruit her to, as Garrett put it, "ditch the witch." They showed her how to work the traps and PKE meters. Now, they were teaching her all they knew about ghosts. Roland put another photo on the table, it was a picture of the inside of the U.S. Online building, where the gremlin had torn it up. "This picture is from a case that involved a gremlin," Roland said. He pointed to the green globes in the picture, "This is ectoplasmic residue!"
Cassy tilted her head to one side. "Looks like monkey-grease to me!"
"Yup, she's your cousin!" Kylie smirked at Eduardo. He made one of his "lay-off-the-lame-jokes" looks. Kylie and Garrett just chuckled.
[LATER]
The sun began to set. Garrett and Eduardo played with the PlayStation, or rather, Garrett watched Eduardo play. He was playing "Real Fishin'"... it was the only game the front desk had left. The group was trying to relax before they went out busting, again, later that night. Eduardo only had to catch three more fish to win the game.
"SNAG IT!" Garrett cried. The salmon that was at the end of the hook broke the line and swam away.
"NOW SEE WHAT YOU MADE ME DO!" Eduardo shouted. "ARGH!"
"Fine!" Garrett shot back. He wheeled out onto the veranda. He saw Cassy was there, too, her long hair hanging over her back. The sun setting made her hair sparkle and shine. Cassy was sitting in a chair brushing her hair, pulling it all from one side to the other, where it hung loosely, exposing her neck. She carelessly, but slowly, pulled the brush through it. The sun caught glints of faint golden streaks in her hair, dyed highlights, but they looked beautiful. She raised her head and looked at Garrett. She smiled that smile of hers, that look that seemed to say, "I know something you don't".
"Wipe that smirk off your face," she said, "you look like a child lost in a sea of Christmas presents!"
Garrett's grin faded into a half-smile. "And you look like a little girl who just discovered make-up," Garrett joked.
Cassy shook her head and let her burgundy-colored lips form a loose smirk.
"You been in Miami long?" Garrett ventured.
"Since I was 15," she looked out over the city. "I'm 17 now," she paused. "You're an Aries, am I right? Your star sign is Aries?"
Garrett looked at her in surprise "Yea, how'd you know?"
Cassy grinned, "You're outgoing, independent, gutsy, confident, a daredevil, and you love meeting challenges."
"Couldn't be more correct!" Garrett paused for a minute, then a smile of mischief spread across his face. "Okay, 'Miss Astrology', what's Roland's star sign?!"
"And if I don't get it right?"
"You've got to... let's see... oh... unplug the PlayStation so Eduardo loses the game."
Cassy grinned. "Fair enough. And If I win you have to... hmm..." suddenly her eyes lit up, "You've got to let me lock you in the closet for... half an hour. Got that, 'Mister Claustrophobia'!"
"WHO TOLD YOU!?" he demanded.
"Figured it out myself. You turned red whenever you were riding in the elevator."
Garrett snorted. "Fine then, you've got a deal! What's his star sign?"
"Libra: quiet, elegant, a mind for machinery, justified and fair."
Garrett's jaw dropped open "That's right! Okay, what's Kylie?"
Cassy shook her head. "A Gemini: clever, quick-thinking, energetic, brainy, and very emotional."
Garrett hung his head, he just lost horribly.
"And just for the record," Cassy smiled, "Eduardo's a Sagittarius: optimistic, philosophical, loves his freedom, tends to say whatever is on his mind no matter what the situation, even when it's dumb, and he's adventurous when he steps above that fear of failure."
Garrett threw his arms in the air in defeat. "You win!" He cried out.
Cassy pushed her hair back and her smirk of victory melted in to a smile of mischief.
[LATER]
Cassy stepped out of her room, she was suited up and ready to go. She had to improvise a ghostbusters uniform, but she managed. A black top and combat boots that were hers, a pair of bike shorts that were Kylie's, an orange ghostbusting vest of Eduardo's and gloves that belonged to Garrett. "Ready to go!" she said, holstering the second "girls' gun".
"Okay let's... wait a minute, where's Garrett?" Roland asked.
Cassy's watch beeped. "Time's up!" she said, picking up Garrett's gun and walking into Garrett's room. The others followed. She opened the closet door and Garrett quickly wheeled out, red faced and breathing hard. "See? I was right, you are claustrophobic!" she grinned at Garrett.
"I'm not!" he retorted, "Just impatient."
"Uh huh, whatever," Cassy rolled her eyes. She thrust his gun into his hands, "We can argue about this later. Right now I want to kick some ghost-butt!" she said, heading for the door. Roland, Kylie and Eduardo snickered.
"Hey! That's my line! I should get that copyrighted!" Garrett yelled, following Cassy.
Eduardo was rolling with laughter.
"Oh shut-up Edwina!"
Now Kylie was laughing.
"Let's just go get Spectra, before she gets us!" Roland said, heading out the door.
"Yea, let's ditch the witch!" Garrett yelled.
[A warehouse]
"Well, this is where the PKE lead us." Kylie said, as she stepped cautiously into the warehouse, followed by the others.
"Spectra sure has a taste for deserted warehouses." Garrett commented.
Eduardo looked around.
"It would be so nice for you all to stay a while." Manuel said, entering the room. The door instantly slammed shut and locked.
"It would be so nice of you to drop dead," Cassy mimicked, in a high-pitched, childish tone. "Oh yeah! You already are dead!" Manual scowled at her.
Spectra appeared in the corner and walked toward them. "I've had enough of all of you!" she sneered and threw a fireball at them. Roland instinctively fired at the fireball, the proton energy displaced that of the fire and the ball disappeared.
"On three!" Kylie called.
"THREE!" all five yelled in unison and, then, fired at Spectra. The proton streams hit Spectra and she screamed in pain. She struggled to get free. Manuel charged at Eduardo, but Cassy swung her beam around and hit Manuel. He fell to the floor, out cold. Spectra took advantage of Cassy's distraction. She held up her arm and an invisible forcefield suddenly protected her from the beams.
"What the..." they ceased firing. Spectra lay unmoving on the floor, then she slowly tried to pull herself up, only to fall again.
"If I go, you'll all go with me!" she cried weakly. Suddenly there was a bright flash of light and a few loud screams echoed through the warehouse...
Kylie pulled herself into a sitting position and held her head in her hands. She looked around, the other were lying on the floor and Spectra stood over them. Kylie gasped and crawled backwards away from the tall woman. Spectra raised her hand preparing to kill Kylie, when suddenly Spectra was hit with two beams of light. Spectra screamed in pain.
"Kylie, the trap!" Eduardo called. Kylie threw the trap under Spectra and slammed her thumb on the control button. The trap openned and Spectra shrieked loudly, as she was pulled inside. The cry was cut short as the trap snapped shut.
"Nobody messes with this Rivera!" Cassy said, picking up the smoking trap.
"Or her cousin!" Eduardo smiled, offering Kylie a hand. She took it and he pulled her up. He wrapped his arms around her and she returned the embrace. She rested her head on his shoulder. Cassy smiled and held her head down.
"Cassy?" Eduardo started.
"Hmm?"
"You won't tell them about me and Kylie... will you?"
Cassy shook her head. "Nah..."
Garrett began to stir. "Oh... what a headache!" he mumbled. Cassy rolled his wheelchair to him. She held out a hand in assistance, which he accepted, as she helped him back into his chair.
Kylie and Eduardo pulled apart and watched. "I think... they would make a good couple." Kylie smiled.
"You know what?" Eduardo mused, as watched Cassy recount to Garrett what happened
when he was out cold. "I think they would..."
[The hotel]
The gang had just finished packing up all their stuff, it was all piled by the door and ready to go. Cassy looked at the pile of luggage. Eduardo came up behind her, before he could say a thing she turned and smiled at him. "Well, Baby Eyes," she said, walking out onto the veranda, "There's only one thing for me to do..." She looked out over the city, where she had lived for so long. "And that's say good-bye."
[The firehouse: Saturday morning]
Garrett waited, as patiently as he could, watching the door. Suddenly the door burst open and in walked Cassandra. She took off her cap and shook out her hair. "How's the new apartment?" Garrett asked.
"Just perfect!" she said, happily. "Like I said before I left, say good-bye... to the slums of Miami!"
"You went shopping, too!" Eduardo noted, looking at her new jeans and Reebok crop-top.
"Uh huh!"
"Glad we had the cash from those two spare plane tickets!" Kylie said, looking over the top of her book. "Or we wouldn't have got you here, or helped you get the apartment and clothes."
"Glad you did!" Cassy smiled, "That tank top was getting pretty ratty!"
They all laughed.
"I'm going to go upstairs to play with the Sega system, see ya!" Cassy called, as she headed up the stairs. Garrett watched her, with a childish smile.
"You like her!" Eduardo said, accusingly, but jokingly.
Garrett snapped out of his trance. "What?! No, I don't!"
"Admit it!" Kylie said, standing up and walking to Eduardo, "You're smitten!"
"I'm not!" he retorted, crossing his arms.
"Hey, Garrett!" Cassandra called from upstairs. "Give me a hand hooking this up!"
"One sec!" he called, as he wheeled to the elevator as quickly as he could.
Kylie and Eduardo watched the door slide closed. "He's hopelessly infatuated!" Kylie said, shaking her head and grinning.
The radio began to play Savage Garden's "Truly, Madly, Deeply"...
Eduardo bowed to Kylie in a humorous, renaissance imitation and asked, "May I have this dance?"
Kylie laughed at his foolishness, but gladly played along. "Of course, good sir!" she mocked, holding out her hand. The couple danced to the music, while upstairs Cassy whipped Garrett's butt, for the fourth time, in Mortal Kombat...
