Personal note: I think my best ideas come in the middle of the night. Like last night... I was sitting up reading a book about Celtic legends cuz I couldn't sleep. Anyway, I read this story about the island of Avalon and thought it would make a cool fan fic! The witches names are made up. The book only calls them "The Weird sisters" and I corrupted the legend a bit.(Okay the only thing I left the same was the Island, witches and the pool of water!) I would thank all the people I normally do but since I wrote this in the middle of the night, that explains itself! So without further delay I give you the fourth story of "The Rivera Chronicles"!

The Rivera Chronicles - Story 4
The Battle of Avalon

by Helen-Kylie

[A large, black, closed room]

Three black-cloaked women stared into the spring of water, fed by a small stream bubbling from the rocks. The pool was raised from the ground and the women had to sit on a small set of stairs. Kneeling on the second step, the one closest to the pool, they gazed into the clear water. In the water, pictures appeared, like a window to another dimension. In the vision, a black-robed man with bluish-tinged skin and a gold crown swung a sword through a girl in a warrior's dress. The girl screamed and fell to the ground, dead. The man laughed an evil laugh.

"NO!" The second cloaked woman screamed, thrusting her hand into the water, as if to grab the slain girl. "Paria!" The vision instantly disappeared as her hand hit the water.

"Paria is dead, all is lost!" The third cried. The women's cloaks had hoods that hid their faces. "Rayon has won, Avalon is doomed!" she moaned.

"There is another. Five others." The first said, looking at her sister.

"You mean..."

"Yes, it is time, the prophecy will be fulfilled after all!" The three hooded sisters gathered around the pool. A picture formed of Kylie, Eduardo, Garrett, Roland and Cassy...

[The firehouse]

Kylie and Eduardo sat on the couch watching Cassy clobber Garrett in Mortal Kombat. Roland sat and typed on his beloved laptop. Janine was off to pay the phone bill and Egon was attending some kind of scientist convention. So the young Ghostbusters were left alone.

"HA!" Cassy cried, "Got ya!"

"REMATCH!" Garrett demand. Eduardo smiled, Kylie laughed. "I thought you said you weren't a laugher!" Garrett said, turning to Kylie.

"Let's just say my life has gotten a little more interesting in the past one and a half months," she replied. Cassy turned around from her seat on the floor and smiled. Kylie grinned back. Garrett saw the look the two girls exchanged.

"Okay, what secret is going on between you two?!"

"None of your business!" Cassy exclaimed. Garrett opened his mouth to say something but Eduardo cut him off.

"Let it go, man. They'll tell you when they feel like it." He put his arms behind his head and leaned back. He winked at Kylie. In response she let out a small, embarrassed laugh.

"Why do I have a feeling you three know something I don't?" Garrett snapped.

"Let it go, man!" Cassy sighed, "Besides, we have a game to finish!" she added, handing him his controller. Garrett smiled at her. Cassy smiled back, a little red color coming into her cheeks before turning back to the TV.

When Eduardo saw Garrett was engrossed in his game again, he took Kylie's hand. Kylie wrapped her fingers around his warm hand and smiled at him. Eduardo beamed back and they both turned back to the game, fingers interlocked.

Roland suddenly jumped back from his computer with a yelp. Eduardo and Kylie separated and everyone turned to face Roland. Roland shook his hand as if he were trying to shake off some water that spilled on it. "The computer gave me an electric shock!" he explained.

"That's strange," Cassy said, getting up and walking to the computer. "I installed a surge protector on this!" Cassy was a computer lover, she couldn't fix one if she tried but she loved all the programs and downloaded everything she could get her hands on. "That device should have stopped any electrical surges!" She touched the keys. There was a low 'zap' and Cassy gave a surprised cry as she jumped back and pulled her fingers from the keys.

"Are you okay, Cass?" Garrett asked her, wheeling toward the computer. The only answer was Cassy rubbing her fingers and muttering curses under her breath. Eduardo and Kylie walked over to the others.

"That's weird. The computer must have an energy build-up or something," Kylie said. Eduardo touched the wire connecting the laptop to the electric socket. Again there was a cracking sound and Eduardo quickly pulled his hand away.

"OUCH!" he yelped.

"You just HAD to touch it!" Kylie scolded. Suddenly the computer began to vibrate and little surges of electricity began to show, arcing from the computer screen and keys.

"I think it's GONNA BLOW!" Cassy screeched, the teens turned on their heels and ran. Suddenly there was a loud explosion from behind them. The group was blown to the ground and Garrett was knocked out of his wheelchair and sent sprawling onto the floor. The last thing he remembered was seeing Cassy, Roland, Eduardo and Kylie hit the floor, then hitting his head, and the world went black.

When Garrett opened his eyes, he found himself lying looking at the black wall of a dark room. The only light was very faint and glowing from behind him. He rolled over and sat up. He gasped at what he saw.

Three black-cloaked and hooded figures were sitting around on a step looking into what appeared to be some kind of pool. The light was radiating out of whatever the figures were looking into. The first figure had her back to him, the second was on the side of the spring so her side was facing him, the third was across from the first on the other side of the pool, but her head was down and he couldn't see her face. Finally the silence was broken by the first. "Avalon, the isle of might, glowing with it's eerie light."

"Had an army both large and strong, but no match for the Lord Rayon." the second said.

"He took the world from it's sire, and threw mercy in a funeral pyre!" the third concluded the ghastly nursery rhyme.

The figures turned to him and he looked at their faces. He had a strange feeling he knew them, especially the first. The first looked a little like a cross between himself and Cassy. Her long blond hair fell out of her hood and over her front. The second looked like Willow from Buffy. She had shoulder-length red hair that bobbed under nicely, her hood framed the hair perfectly. The third had a surprising resemblance to Kylie minus make-up, her long black hair, like that of the first, fell from inside the hood.

"Who are you?" Garrett breathed.

"We," the second said happily, "are the weird sisters!"

"Weird is right!" Garrett muttered.

"Guardians of the isle of Avalon," the third declared.

"Avalon? That mystical land ruled by a peace-loving but warfare-skilled people?"

"That's the place!" the second said in her playful voice.

"We are the witches who are supposed to keep it safe," the third spoke again in her dark but bell-like voice.

The first smiled at him. "I'm Deboria," she said. Her friendly voice seemed to carry all the wisdom of the world on it's wings. Deboria looked young but seemed to act much older than she appeared. "This is my sister Patience," she said, pointing to the redhead, "and our youngest sister Helen!" she added, pointing to the black-haired one.

"I'm..." Garrett started, but Helen cut him off.

"We know who you are!"

"You are the divine one, Ashton," Patience breathed.

"Now called Garrett Miller," Deboria smiled lovingly, not like Cassy smiled at him, but more like his mother did when she used to put him to bed at night, when he was little. Garrett smiled back and wanted to go to the three witches gathered around the pool. "Get up!" Deboria encouraged.

"I can't walk!" he cried, looking around for his wheelchair, only to find it was nowhere in sight.

"Get up!" Deboria said again.

"I CAN'T WALK!" he shouted. Deboria sighed, slowly raising her hand and as she did, Garrett found himself being raised to his feet. When she lowered her hand he was suprised to see that he was standing, balancing on two feet!

"Come!" she said, motioning towards the spring. Garrett uneasily began to walk towards the pool where the witches were. He knelt beside Deboria.

"Look," Patience said mysteriously, pointing to the water. Garrett looked into the water, only to see the sand bottom, bubbles and ripples where the water was feeding into the pool from the spring.

"I don't see anything..."

Helen smiled mysteriously and slowly drifted her hand close to the water. "Look harder," she said, a tinge of wisdom in her voice. She let her hand flow over the surface of the water, making it ripple.

Garrett peered into the water, it's light illuminating his face. As the ripples settled, a picture formed...the recreation room of the firehouse. He saw the computer was perfectly fine but Kylie, Eduardo, Roland, Cassy and he lay unmoving on the floor. "THAT'S ME!" he cried, "Am I ..."

"No," Deboria answered before he asked, "You're not dead. Your soul has just left your body."

"You mean I'm a ghost," he whispered.

"No." Patience thoughtfully rested her chin on her hand. "Ghosts are energy that has been released and rejoined, am I right?" Garrett nodded. "You," she continued, "are still very much alive and can be fatally wounded. So if I put a knife through your back right now while you're looking into the water, I would kill you. But don't worry, I won't."

"What we did," Helen explained, "is take your spirits from your bodies!"

"So the others are alive, and like this, too. Where are they?" Garrett asked.

"Do you remember what Kylie said about reincarnation?" Deboria asked.

"Yes. She said that when you die your soul goes to a place, picks another life and is born again with no memory of it's past life. She also said a soul could have many lives," Garrett answered.

"She is right," Deboria replied, pushing some hair under her hood, "Your soul was created along with all your friends' a long time ago. You were all great warriors at the head of Avalon's army. But when Lord Rayon came he killed you. You were born again elsewhere. Now Rayon is on the verge of taking over Avalon and we called your spirits back to fight Rayon and win Avalon back."

"So when do I get to kick some dark lord butt?!" Garrett asked eagerly.

"You don't," Helen said, "But they do!" Helen pointed at the pool.

Garrett looked in and a new image appeared. It looked like a dark, black, fog-shrouded room. Out of the dark three figures appeared. The first Garrett recognized as Kylie, only she was different. She was wearing a black leather dress with a high collar that came up around her neck. She was also sporting a pair of knee-high boots. Her hair was pulled into a high, tight ponytail. Instead of the ponytail being wild and uncombed, like Kylie's hair normally was, it fell in curly waves over her back to her waist.

"That's Kylie!" he gasped.

"No, that's Beth," Patience corrected. Garrett could now make out the other figures, Eduardo and Roland. They looked the same, only they were dressed in black leather. All three had an assortment of medieval weapons.

"Eduardo... and Roland!" He cried when he recognized them. Helen shook her head.

"They are Ryan and Seth," Patience told him. Garrett shrugged and looked in the water again. A new figure had appeared, of Lord Rayon.

"Beth," Lord Rayon said ominously.

"Rayon," Beth murmured, pulling her sword from it's holder.

"Ryan," Rayon said turning to the latino spirit, "You turn from me, power...to her, for what?"

Ryan took Beth's hand. "For freedom and love!" he answered, "I listened to your lies once, I will not again. I stand for the Resistance behind Beth, our leader."

"And your lover!" Rayon snapped.

"Does that matter?" Ryan scoffed.

Garrett looked from the water to Deboria. "Kylie and Eduardo, together?!" Deboria nodded.

"All souls that crossed paths in other lives will cross again in the next."

"You're saying if they were lovers then, they will be now?" Garrett asked.

Deboria nodded. "Sooner or later."

"Probably later..." Garrett muttered and turned back to the water.

"And you!" Rayon roared, turning to the dark-skinned Seth. "You betrayed me!"

"I won your trust, found your weaknesses and told The Resistance," Seth smiled at the memory.

"You all won't live to see tomorrow!" Rayon roared. Suddenly a new figure appeared from the shadows and walked up to Rayon.

"Cassandra!" Garrett breathed.

Cassy was wearing a green leotard with knee-high green boots and long, green gloves.

"That's Nefertina, but we call her Fearia" Patience said.

Fearia wrapped her arm round Rayon's neck and rested her head on his shoulder. "What are you going to do to them, daddy?" she asked.

"FEARIA, ARE YOU CRAZY?!" Ryan roared.

"Shut up, big brother!" She snapped.

"I thought you were on our side!" Beth questioned.

"She was," Rayon smiled, "But my daughter came back to me, unlike my son!" Ryan turned his head, as if to scorn his father.

Fearia put her hand on Rayon's left shoulder. Beth smiled when she saw Fearia bare her long fingernails. "Well, daddy?" Fearia breathed.

"Hmm..." Rayon pondered. In one quick move Fearia nicked Rayon's neck with her fingernails. "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING NEFERT..." Rayon fell to the floor. Fearia smiled.

"Pays to be half demon...poison claws!" she beamed, letting her hands go back to normal, with normal fingernails.

"Ashton taught you well!" Seth commented.

"Where is my husband?" Fearia asked. Beth sighed.

"I guess he was the one chosen to sit by with the sisters," Beth offered. Fearia looked sad at Beth's words. Suddenly she called into the empty air.

"My love to you, Ashton, wherever you are!"

Garrett looked up, confused. Deboria smiled at him, "She's talking to you!" Garrett smiled and turned back to the water.

Rayon groaned and stood up. Fearia, Ryan and Seth stood behind Beth. "You will NEVER destroy me!" Rayon roared.

"Avalon will be saved, and I will reclaim my father's land! For my name is Elizabeth, and that means 'queen of the isles'!" Beth held her sword above her head, Fearia, Ryan, and Seth grabbed a hold of it's handle. "BEHOLD THE POWER OF THE RESISTANCE!" Beth yelled, and the sword started to glow. Beth, Fearia, Ryan, and Seth brought the glowing sword down on Rayon.

"NOOOOOO!!!!!" the demon screamed as the sword struck him. He yelled in agony as he disintegrated into dust.

"YAAhoo!!" Garrett cheered.

The black field the warriors were in suddenly seemed to lighten, as if the clouds had parted and the sun had just shined through.

"We won," Beth breathed. From under stones and trees people began to emerge. The people smiled as they saw the sun, Avalon was restored. The vision began to dissolve from the pool and then disappeared all together.

Garrett looked up at the witches. The women stood up.

"What are you doing?" Garrett asked.

"Letting the spirits go back to your world," Helen said as she took down her hood. She slipped out of the black cloak to reveal herself in a long white dress. Deboria and Patience followed her example.

"And now it's time for you to go," Patience said sadly.

"Huh?" Garrett asked. Deboria sighed, and when he looked at her he saw a tear roll down her cheek.

"I never thought I would lose you again," she sighed.

"What? What are you talking about?" He cried.

"Rise," Helen said. Suddenly Garrett found himself floating into the air.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!!" he screamed.

"You have to go back," Patience said. Suddenly he felt himself dropped into the pool. He tried to get out but felt himself sink under the water. He instinctively breathed in and to his surprise, he could breathe the water like air! He looked up as he sank deeper, he saw the witches slowly drift away. Patience waved. Garrett grinned and waved back. He was so deep now, he could barely make out her red hair.

Then for some reason he looked up at Deboria and called out, "Bye Mom!" he was surprised that his voice worked in the water and doubly surprised at what he said. Deboria must have heard him because she waved and dropped something into the water. The thing sank quickly, but he caught it. So deep was he in water now, he couldn't see the witches, and he was still sinking. He closed his eyes...

[The Firehouse]

"Garrett, get up!" Garrett heard Cassy call. He opened his eyes to see Kylie, Eduardo, Cassy and Roland standing over him.

"I'm awake!" He groaned. Roland wheeled over the wheelchair. Garrett pulled himself into it. "I had one way weird dream when I was out!" he said, shaking his head.

"I didn't!" Cassy said. "I never went out!" Garrett looked at her and shrugged. In his dream she was. He wheeled over to Kylie who had sat down and was reading a book. He looked over her shoulder and gasped.

"Who are they?!" Garrett gasped, pointing to the picture. Kylie looked at him strangely.

"They're the weird sisters, guardians of the mystical island of Avalon," Kylie turned the page where there was a better picture. Garrett felt like his stomach was going to fall out, or come out his mouth. The picture was clearly of Deboria, Patience and Helen, it was drawn, but remarkably accurate. The three were standing around...an alter? No, it was a pool of water! Garrett felt sick.

"What's that water doing in the pic?" he asked.

"Geez! Even I know that!" Eduardo laughed, "It's supposed to be like a portal to other dimensions, so the sisters can see what's going on all over the universe!"

"No one asked you!" Garrett snapped. "Hey, what's that?" He asked, looking at a bundle Deboria was holding to her chest. Kylie looked closely.

"I don't know," she said. She picked up a magnifying glass from the table and held it to the picture. "It's a baby!" She laughed, "I didn't know the eldest of the sisters had a kid!" Kylie scanned the written words on the next page. "Hey, here it is!" Kylie read aloud from the book, "Deboria had a son, Ashton, who was killed in the battles of Avalon." Garrett felt like dying, no wonder Deboria and the other sisters took to him. His past life was as Deboria's son.

"Hey, Kylie? Do you want that book when you're done with it?" Garrett asked.

Kylie eyed him curiously. "You want it? Here, I've read it before, I just found myself skimming it again for some reason." She handed him the book. He laid it in his lap and wheeled out of the room.

"Glad you don't remember, guys!" he thought out loud, "'Cause I'll never forget!" He put the book in his bag, then reached into his pocket. He fingered something cold and smooth. "Huh?" He pulled the object out. It was a silver amulet on a silver chain, the one Deboria had dropped into the water after him. He put the amulet around his neck, and would never take it off.

"I think that bump on the head messed up his brain!" Cassy grinned towards the door Garrett had exited through.

"It was definitely not like him to ask for my books!" Kylie agreed. Roland looked at his watch.

"Oh man! I was supposed to be home fifteen minutes ago! Where did the time go?" Roland groaned.

"Hey! The clock says it's four p.m.! Before the explosion it was one!" Eduardo cried.

"Maybe we did get knocked out," Cassy suggested, but she was just as confused.

"I guess we did," Kylie sighed. Cassy shrugged and went upstairs.

"Bye, guys!" Roland called, heading downstairs.

"Bye!" Kylie called back, before plopping down onto the couch. Eduardo sat beside her. She laid her head on his chest. He wrapped his arms around her. "I'm exhausted!" she sighed, "Like I just fought a battle or something!"

"I know!" Eduardo agreed, "I feel like I have no energy left." Kylie nodded and close her eyes. In a few minutes they were both asleep.
