Downloading Help/Info
Since this is a free hosted site, Fortunecity has pop-ups ads on all
the pages. It's a shame that they use the annoying gator pop-up.
Check your browser security settings so that it doesn't automatically
install on your system.
I've noticed a strange timeout problem on some of the links. If it times out
or stops responding, Fortunecity seems to block access to ALL downloadable
Fortunecity links from that computer. (it does on my computer anyway) You may
have to reboot, change IP/ISP numbers, clean cookies, or come back another day.
WinZip will unzip any zipped files.
The best way to view this site and download the WAV sound
files is to use Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player.
(Windows Media Player with the WAV files - better sound quality.)
If you have Windows 98, it should already be installed.
You can use WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER to play MP3 files by clicking on:
VIEW--->OPTIONS--->FORMATS--->put a check beside
MP3 Format Sound, click APPLY, then OK
Clicking the link should automatically start the download and
your audio player may pop-up to start streaming the file -
You may want to wait and let the entire file load if you have
a standard phone line 56K modem connection.
Click the link of the WAV file--->some browsers may cause a download
dialog box may come up:
--->choose option to save file to disk, then click OK, then SAVE AS
--->select My Documents from the menu and click. Next, go to
My Documents on your PC and double click the file.
You can download these audio files directly to your PC.
(choose save in: My Documents)
GetRight will download any file on this web site no matter what problem or error
message you may be receiving. Fortunecity sometimes has problems with downloading
audio files. The audio files ARE on this site and GetRight WILL download them to
your PC. Simply click and drag the link into GetRight and choose SAVE FILE to My
Documents or other folder.
These programs will help with downloading files and can resume the download
if the server stops responding or if the download is interrupted:
GetRight or Go!Zilla a free download manager.
I recommend GetRight over Go!Zilla because it is a better program.
Once the audio file is on your PC, you can play it with any of your audio players.
For example: Open Sound Recorder--->go to FILE--->OPEN--->browse for the sound (*.wav)
highlight the file and open--->Sound Recorder will now start playing the file.
If Windows Media Player is not loaded, put your Windows 98 CD into the
CD-ROM:
1. Go to START---->SETTINGS--->CONTROL PANEL--->ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS (double click)
2. Click the WINDOWS SETUP tab--->scroll down to--->MULTIMEDIA (Highlight it)
3. Click on DETAILS--->select check box for MEDIA PLAYER and you can also
select SOUND RECORDER.
4. Click OK--->this will load the needed software.
If you don't have the CD and it's not on your computer go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/en/download/default.asp
Choose to download Player 6.4 for your system - VER 7 is too BULKY and BUGGY.
Note: before installing software on your computer, close all programs except
Explorer--->CTRL+ALT+DELETE--->highlight program and click on END TASK
and do this for all programs running on the computer.
To save a WAV file on your computer when the Player pops up--->select FILE
--->SAVE AS - choose a file location on your hard drive, floppy, zip, etc..
If you ever download a (WAV) file and can't find it on your PC, go here:
MY COMPUTER--->C:
--->WINDOWS
--->TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES
--->click View Details, then click arrange icons by name
--->search for the name of the file (it will have a WAV extension - .wav)
click and hold, then drag the file to My Documents to save.
If you have Netscape you may need a plug-in: Quick Time
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/
This will add a plug-in that Netscape uses to play the WAV file. Save file to
disk by clicking File--->Save As (in the browser)
WinAmp is free and a will play WAV and MP3 files. If you want to slow down
a guitar solo and keep the pitch constant, then you can download these
plug-ins as well:
Loop Master (WinAmp Plugin) - loops a section of the song
Pacemaker (WinAmp Plugin) - controls the tempo, pitch, and speed of the solo
RealPlayer is free and will play MP3 and Wave files- But you have to find
out about the WAV plug-in to play WAV files.
WinAmp I recommend WinAmp over RealPlayer for WAVs.
NOTE: There are NO dead links on the TAB page. If you are receiving FortuneCity type
errors of file not found or files not downloading, please send an e-mail
detailing the problem to:support@fortunecity.com
