Slowdive. Slowdive first appeared in 1990, winning 'Single Of The Year' in most music papers with their brilliant (some would say groundbreaking) EP 'Morningrise'. This was music that had not been tried before. At their concerts people cried, music journalists were stunned and at a loss as to how to describe this wonderful noise - a sort of 'My Bloody Valentine' slowed down considerably. It was music that you couldn't dance to, but you could certainly die to. In 1991 Slowdive quickly became part of 'The Scene That Celebrates Itself', a conglomerate of new bands that included Lush, Ride, Chapterhouse, Moose, Cranes, Moonshake and Curve. These bands provided an alternative to 'baggy', 'grunge' and 'raves' and for many were a source of hope in time of apathy. Using NME and Melody Makers from the time I have compiled a detailed archive of Slowdive's activities. I hope it unlocks a precious memory (or two). |
