The idea was to play music to make people dance, and have fun. The idea was a backlash to a dark time in popular music, one we call The Grunge Era. This era had convinced the music industry that the only relevent music was that performed by people who wanted to speak of the harsh realities of life. Therefore the music had to reflect the stoic outlook of the performers.
But Gimpy had new ideas, they remebered what it was like before music was sold by sexy advertising, and mini self-promotion movies, back to the time when if you played a good song, and people liked it, they bought your album.
Gimpy found solace in the cold wave forms of synthesizers, and sequencers, while still retaining the rock/pop sensebility that most of thier favorite artists used to make people smile. Creating a new combination of various music styles, including everything from 60's bubble gum, to punk, to new wave and on to the recent techno trend of "break beat".
This hodge podge of influences has helped Gimpy to be reveared by many members of different musical communities. Seemingly, anyone can enjoy the music of Gimpy. While this might extend from the unusual instrumentation chosen by the band, most likely it's because the music just maskes you feel good.
So please continue to help Gimpy with thier perilous fight against persecution and the idea that only music that makes you sad or angry is relevent, and that fun music has as much integrety and worth as any other.
