The Barfly, Camden - 08/12/2003....
Support Band - Amplifier
Arrived at the venue/pub and was told to go and have a drink downstairs as the upstairs wasn't open yet, shit this was gonna be small. I new members of the band would be spotted here, from past experiences, this was just a pub. I was right Martin was the first to be spotted, of course not playing due to his ear problem, but must admit he did look bad with his cane, he looked like he had been knocked on the head hard, and was still a bit groggy Andy and then Michael walked in for a quick look around to see who was about, but no Neil.
The upstairs part opened and I rushed up to take a look at the stage, shit I was nearly on it, this was smaller than Tunbridge Wells, wow didn't think I would ever see Therapy? at a gig smaller than that. Amplifier played and even joked about how small the stage was but I think the venue also worked for them as they sounded much better that at the previous Astoria gig.
This was Therapy? last gig of the year and after a bit of a wait to clear Amplifiers gear from the stage through the 100-150 or so crowd, they hit the stage once again as a three piece, and ripped the shit out of the place, and really enjoyed doing it,.. I think. What a gig, if you were there you couldn't fail to feel the energy the band exuded. Smaller venue's just rule there is something about them maybe it's being so close to the band, you just get so caught up in the atmosphere. Once again Punishment Kiss rocked, as did Skyward, through the over 80min set, Neil again was excellent and the energy displayed was incredible. But what about the rare Japanese instrumental track Michael taunted us about, well it turned out to be Turn. During Knives Rob a member of the crowd, sang a great version that was appreciated by both, band and crowd, alike.., respect. Another super gig, that only a few were privileged to, and what a privilege it was, when four become three and still rock like bastards.
