This page is where we give our interpretation of the lyrics of Powderfinger songs.

This is just our opinion, like it or lump it. I think we have as much right to do this as some wanky music critic working for a poxy music magazine.

Boing Boing - written by Bernard Fanning and Ian Haug
Boing Boing is about drugs, addiction, and a couple that have an addiction.

"There's nothing to say but she came and then she went through" - this means that the girl keeps him supplied in drugs and also has an addiction

"Her cardamom powder sneeze raised the old hotel roof" - this is a reference to snorting cocaine.

"There's nothing to play so we swam into the rockpool" - this is showing how people can become addicts because of boredom with their everyday lives. They are swimming in the pool of addiction.

"Habits are breaking me so we broke through to the other side" - this means that they have crossed over from everyday lives to become junkies. They are spending all their money on their habit.

"Double Allergic wheeze spoiled the phantom flow through" - the double allergic part of this means that they can't survive with the drugs, but they can't survive without them. This takes some of the pleasure out of taking the drugs.

"Neighbourhood of disease paves the way to fondue" - this is the lifestyle they are living, spending time in bad neighbourhoods. Fondue is a reference to melting down drugs.

"It was meant to be" - this means that I am going to marry Bernard Fanning. Not really, it means that the couple are very in love and they need each other and they need the drugs.

This is the interpretation of DAF that was emailed to us by Crystal.

"Solution found will appease everyone" : What ever the truth is people shopuld accept it.

"Religion hides from developing truth" : If aliens are real all religous beliefs will be disproved.

"Beleivers try to encourage the truth" : Think of Fox Mulder. Alein support groups, they beleive and want others to beleive.

"Cascading down light from above/far beyond" : The beam used for apparent abductions.

"May reveal the silence they deny" : What is the biggest secret in the X-Files, the denial of aliens.

"Fey black eyes mystified everyone'' Fey means something like doomed or bringing death, if you listen to any abduction stories the most vivid recollection is the Aliens eyes.

This song is about John Cougar/Melloncamp/Cougar-Mellencamp/Mel and Kim.

"Jesus Christ, what name do you go by now" - this refers to the fact that John Cougar keeps changing his name ie. John Cougar to John Cougar-Mellencamp to John Mellencamp. It is a little known fact that Daz is a closet John Cougar fan, of the dark "Hurt's so good" period (as opposed to his more classy "Jack and Dianne" period.)

"Time is passing, with the wind blows new decrees" - With time, old Johnny keeps changing his name.
"Canned for life, your use by date is fading" - this refers to the fact that John Cougar is a has been.

"And followers of you, now watch tv" - instead of listening to John Cougar, his fans now watch tv or listen to Gold FM.
"What could I do" - this refers to Daz's failed attempt to turn Powderfinger into a John Cougar tribute band.

"And tonight you're dress is looking faded, the colors don't seem to captivate" - last time Darren saw John Cougar he just wasn't as glammy as he used to be.

"Count the loss, I see your moving on now" - he owes his record company heaps of money, as he is such a hasbeen he can't sell records any more so he is getting out of music.

"Pressures off, no more people to drag you down" - he is not mobbed by groupies as he is no longer in the limelight.

"What can I do, on my own I stand naked" - this refers to little known John Coougar-Mellancamp/Pamela Anderson-Lee home porn video.

"Jesus Christ, don't look at me that way?" - People often mistake Darren for John Cougar, cos they look alike.
