Mezzanine Album Review
(taken from April 1999 issue of Rock Sound Magazine)
"From their first album, Blue Lines it was obvious that a powerful, original
talent was emerging in deepest Bristol. However nobody could have
expected how Massive Attack would evolve. Mezzanine, their third album is one of
the scariest bouts of psychosis ever recorded on tape. First track 'Angel' is an insistant
riff that builds unstoppably under Horace Andy's sublime vocals. 'Rising Son' is
claustrophobic and disturbing, 'Tear Drop' with Cocteau Twins' Liz Fraser is
beautifully soothing and 'Group Four' is a tour de force of blissed out, whispered
emotion. From guitars and Cure samples, to rolling basslines and spliffed out
paranoia, Mezzanine is a work of true maverick genius."
