An
'N Sync Whirlwind
It
seems that Jesse Camp, former MTV VJ turned recording artist, made an appearance
at the recent May 14 Ice Palace, show in Tampa and
was such the hit among the twenty-some thousand fans screaming and chanting
his name that they could not start the show until Jesse was persuaded to leave
the stage. Meanwhile, the pay-per-view concert
scheduled to wrap up 'N Sync's spring tour on May 16 was pushed back to July
2 in Ft. Lauderdale. Having appeared at the Blockbuster Entertainment
Awards, the guys are currently doing some radio concerts after which they are
off to the U.K., where 'N Sync has just exploded in the pop market, for some
much needed promo abroad. The boys will then head back across the pond
to the states where they will spend a month of recording time for the October
release. July 7, the Boys of Summer will head out from Virginia
Beach and tour the U.S. over the course of the summer, ending up their run up
in Canada. Then there will be the Gloria Estefan collaboration, the theme
for the movie The Music of My Heart with Estefan, Meryl Streep, Angela
Basset, and Aidan Quinn, to be released in August. The film, in which
Streep plays an inner-city music teacher, was interestingly enough originally
entitled 50 Violins and was to star Madonna.

The Charts
This week on Billboard,
Alabama's version of God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You featuring
'N Sync enters the top 50 on the singles chart at #49 after two weeks on the
chart, jumping up 21 spots from a #70 debut. Meanwhile 'N Sync's six-time platinum
debut album holds strong at #16, dropping from the #13 position, after 61 weeks
on the charts.

Takes
Your Breath Away
The Fifth Annual Blockbuster
Entertainment Awards, which was taped on May 25 at the historic Shrine Auditorium
in Los Angeles, featured a show-stopping rendition of Sailing by 'N Sync
and Christopher Cross, the song's originator. While the coupling may not
have been as shocking as that of Sting and Puffy, 'N Sync had a few tricks up
their sleeves. As Cross strummed along on the guitar, the five members
of 'N Sync were lifted above the stage and sailed through the air in Ain't
No Stoppin' Us fashion. 'N Sync won the award for Favorite New Group during
the ceremony. The two-hour awards show is to be televised on June 16 on the
FOX network.

Women's
World Cup
Ultra-hot boy band 'N Sync
will perform at the opening ceremony of the Women's World Cup next month. Justin,
J.C., Chris, Joey, and Lance will headline the event, which will be held on
June 19 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Other performers
include Irish girl-pop group B*Witched and Brit teen queen Billie. The
U.S. is hosting the multinational soccer championship this year, with teams
from Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia competing. As for the guys in
'N Sync, it looks as if they've already caught World Cup fever. Check
them out on real
video! 'N Sync will hit the road July 7 in Virginia Beach, Virginia
with Jordan Knight and Five.

God Must Have Spent a Little More Time in Alabama

'N
Sync at the Movies
The
latest guest list for MTV's Movie Awards includes the boys of 'N Sync, who are
supposedly scheduled to present and not to perform at the event along with the
likes of Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Rose McGowan. This year the
awards will be hosted by Friends star Lisa Kudrow. Scheduled musical
performances will be provided by the British sensation Robbie Williams, hard
rocker Kid Rock, and the Wild Wild Will Smith. The guys are, of course,
resting up and spending more time recording the next album after wrapping up
their spring tour on May 16 before their summer tour kicks off in July with
opening acts Five and Jordan Knight. Catch the guys at the big event on
June 10. Pre-show starts at 8:30 p.m. (ET).

'N Sync Private Screening of Star Wars
Because the guys are on tour, they couldn't
make it out to Skywalker Ranch to for the special MTV screening of Star Wars
Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. So, before
the rest of the world got to see it, they
got their own private screening of the newest installment of the Star Wars saga
in Orlando thanks to George Lucas. What did the guys think?
"It was unbelieveable...if you don't see this movie at least 20 times, you're out of your mind," was the endorsement from an ecstatic JC (who's still sportiong a goatee, by the way). A seemingly recovered Lance added, "It is definitely the #1 movie of all time be far..until the second one comes out." And what were Chris, Joey and Justin doing? Playing with their light sabres, of course! Chris was "training them to be Jedi...and they're not very good!"

'N Sync
Headlines...
Good News about Lance
Chris announced on the radio 106.7 in Orlando
that Lance was released from the hospital and was told to get some bed rest
for awhile. He is said to be recuperating with his family resting at
an undisclosed location. In light of these developments, there is growing
concern in the 'N Sync community that the guys are being worked too hard by
their management. If you want your voice to be heard, contact Trans Continental
Entertainment, Inc. at http://www.t-con.com/contact.html
and/or Wright Entertainment Group at (407) 826-9100.
More on
the Pay-Per-View Special...
According to Yahoo news, the May 17th pay-per-view
taping has been postponed until July 2. Both MTV and Chris confirm that
it will tentatively air in September.
'N Sync Honors
Johnny Wright
Four members of the super hot pop group 'N
Sync paid tribute to their manager Johnny Wright at Planet Hollywood Orlando
on Thursday. Chris Kirkpatrick hailed Wright "a father, a big brother and
a mentor all rolled into one." Joey Fatone added that "you can talk
to Johnny about anything -- the business, buying a car, even girls." Lance
Bass was too ill to join his fellow 'N Sync'ers and other musicians honoring
the Orlando based founder of Wright Entertainment and Wright International records.
Several of the eight acts that Wright manages, including Britney Spears, sent
a taped tribute. "Those of you who know me know I am not often at a loss
for words," said Wright as his proud parents looked on. from

Dispelling the
rumors...
Despite floating rumors that Justin is on cloud nine in 7th Heaven...
Justin is not dating Jessica Beal. Rumor has it that when 'N Sync was
on Lesley Ramos, a Canadian Talk show, Justin Timberlake supposedly denied rumors
that he and Britney Spears are going out, but did say he had a sweetheart. When
asked who it was, he said that she stars on the show 7th Heaven. According
to one of CNW's Canadian correspondents, the show doesn't even exist.
Furthermore, 'N Sync hasn't even been in that country in recent history and
will not return until the last leg of their summer tour.
No, Lance has not gotten a heart transplant.
Fans tend to blow things out of proportion easily. True, Lance spent a
few days in the hospital for observation, but he was not on his deathbed or
getting emergency surgery to save his life. It was a case of stomach flu
coupled with exhaustion from a grueling work schedule. Above all, Lance
is not being replaced! So if you're concerned, contact their management.
Don't start writing eulogies and sending funeral flowers.
Double the Flavor,
Double the Fun...
CNW has heard through the grapevine that 'N Sync's sophomore release might be
a double CD album with up to 30 songs. This has not been confirmed, so
don't get too excited just yet. A rumored release date for the album is
October 29.
More on Alabama
Collaboration...
MTV recently caught up with the guys, and this is what they had to say:
"I actually wish we could get a track for it and just do it at our shows
because I'm getting bored with doing our version… I'm just kidding," the
group's Justin joked with MTV News.
"Actually, one of the guys in our group, Lance, when we first recorded
the song, he's a big country fan, he said this song would be great," Chris
said.
"Yeah, this song would be a great country song," Justin added. "That's
what he said and when we recorded it and the irony of them calling us. It's
funny."

Update on Lance's condition...
CNW recieved word that Lance is still in the hospital,
and his doctors will be keeping him there or another day or two for observation.
It looks like he's going to be okay.
[May 14,

Lance Hospitalized
Yesterday CNW recieved these words...
If any of you attended the MGM taping of Summer Jams or saw the Rosie O'Donnel
appearance, you may have noticed Lance wasn't looking like he was feeling well.
Well this afternoon, he missed the pre-show meet-n-greet for the Orlando show
because he was at the doctor's office being checked out. He was feeling really
sick all morning. The doctor not only prohibited him from playing tonight's
Orlando show, but he has also kept him in the hospital overnight for
observation. This came straight from Chris and Joey. He's expected to be
released tomorrow, but Chris has asked anyone concerned to please place Lance in
your prayers for a speedy recovery.
Today from KIIS...
Word from KIIS FM here in Los Angeles today is that Lance got a stomach virus,
leading him to miss last night's show as well as tonight's show at the Ice
Palace.
Word
about Lance from Dax's Mom
Hi everyone,
Most of you have probably heard that Lance was hospitalized yesterday with the flu and dehydration...I'm thinking exhaustion has to be a big factor too.
He's supposed to be released today. Please keep him in your prayers...I know his family would appreciate that very much. Fortunately, his mom and dad were in town yesterday for the concert, so he has family with him. This grueling tour schedule is hard on everyone's health. The Disney taping on Wednesday, right after the Rosie taping, was very hard on everyone because they were out in the sun for hours...even Dax came home that night feeling sick from the all day session at Disney. The conditons were not good there, and there were a lot of technical problems that turned a two-hour shoot into an all day event. I'm actually surprised no one else has collapsed from the nonstop touring, constant interviews, promo events, Meet 'n Greets...and now these "after parties."
From my perspective (yes, you can tell I'm a mom!)...the last thing these guys need to do is make appearances after a full day of being "on" in public. When do they ever have time to recharge? If the guys want to party after a concert, that's their choice...but these organized, profit making "parties" that require their attendance cannot be in their best interests. The way I figure it, there's still at least six hours a day that the guys can be doing something more for management or their record label...wonder what they'll come up with next? Maybe this hospitalization of Lance will open some eyes around these guys. I sure hope so.
During the show last night, the crew made sure that Lance's props were always out on stage...his microphone stand, stool, etc. It was very touching. Dax said he thinks this is the first show the guys have done with only four of them...he knows it is since the band has been with them (which has been for the last two years). Last night Dax replaced Lance on keyboard during "That Thing You Do," which was appropriate since he taught Lance the keyboard part for that song.
We had a really nice time at the concert, and you could sure tell the guys were glad to be home. Joey even kissed the floor of the stage! We enjoyed seeing the show again...it will be the last one for us for awhile.
The whole group ('N Sync, band & crew) needs to be commended for always striving to put on the best show possible under all kinds of conditions. They are all pros!

'N Sync's new
flavor...?
Killjoy music critics take on
'N Sync, charging that the records the group makes are kinda bland, and it seems
that the group itself may have gotten wind of this because lately it seems that
they have been trying to spice things up a bit. As CNW has reported, not
long ago, for example, they got together with long-reigning Latina pop queen
Gloria Estefan on a track entitled Music of My Heart, produced by
Canadian David Foster, for the soundtrack of an upcoming movie Face the Music,
in which Estefan will appear along with Meryl Streep and Angela Basset.
Then there's the country side of 'N Sync, as the group recently commited
to recording backup vocals for a Nashville version of their God Must Have
Spent A Little More Time on You with legendary country pop band Alabama, a
group that has scored 42 number one hits on the Billboard country charts.
Can this be the beginning of a new kind of fusion? Well, probably
not but this is what Chris and Justin had to say about it:
Chris: Kinda sounds Hanna-Barbara-ish, like the cartoon fad of the next
millenium.
Justin: Syncabama.
Chris: And there are gonna be little cartoons of Alabama and 'N Sync running
around on tour and there's gonna be this...
Justin: (sarcastically) Bluegrass R&B...pop (laughter)
Chris: And we're gonna be pioneers in this field because no one's ever mixed
this music and had such a great outcome
Justin: Right...we don't have an outcome yet (laughter)
Chris: Yeah right but let's pretend...
Alabama's version of God Must Have Spent... with 'N Sync piping along can
be found on Alabama's new album Twentieth Century due out next month,
which will be when 'N Sync will be working on their record for release in
October.

them #1.

The End of An
Era
Shock, disbelief, anger.
Sadly, this afternoon 'N Sync fell from the #1 position after a 27-day,
5-week reign over the top spot on MTV's Total Request Live. So how are we
gonna cope? Y'all gotta pick up those jaws off of the ground and get out
there and vote as many times as possible. We can't let this happen!

On a happier note, Timbaland and Missy Elliot we at the MTV studios today
premiering Missy's new video, and Timbaland expressed a love for Drive Myself,
saying that he liked the melody of the beginning of the verse. What's that
you say? Acceptance from somewhere outside of the pop world? Even
non-BSB fans are aware of Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough's project with rap diva
Foxy Brown. Is it possible that the R&B
world can embrace this new pop craze? (Or am I just a crazed
lunatic?)
'N
Sync Gets All Wet at Autograph Signing
From a Launch.net article:
(5/7/99, 4 p.m. PDT) - The 150 security officers employed by the 4.2
million-square-foot Mall Of America in Bloomington, Minn. had their hands full
Thursday (May 6), as a well-attended instore appearance by 'N Sync was rained on
by some water balloon-throwing pranksters. By 8 a.m. Thursday, a line consisting
mostly of teenage girls stretched hundreds of yards down the hallways of the
mall. According to local television reports, by noon 20,000 people stood in the
line waiting for the pop sensations to arrive. The vocal-harmony group was not
scheduled to appear until 1:30 p.m., but the fans clutching CDs, posters, and
other memorabilia waited impatiently to see their favorite multiplatinum
recording sensations. The group arrived as scheduled and started signing
autographs at the event, which was sponsored by retailer Sam Goody. But about an
hour into the mall appearance, things went sour. Marcia Appel, senior VP of
Musicland, says that the group had been onstage for a little more than an hour
when the trouble started. "A water balloon came directly from above, and
hit the table on which they were signing with a considerable force," she
says. "The security agents and the band's management had warned the crowd
repeatedly throughout the day that any incidents of roughhousing would result in
the band leaving the stage, for their safety and for everyone's safety."
The balloon was estimated to have fallen from four or five levels up. Due to
safety concerns, the group's management and security decided that 'N Sync should
leave the mall shortly after the incident. There was no word of any suspect
apprehended at press time.

Grove
Station Compilation
BMG Music Canada is releasing a compilation album called Groove
Station 5, put out by --I'm speculating-- a radio personality named Chris

Britney Spears, and a new song from Backstreet Boys. Look for Groove Station 5
starting May 18th.

Backstreet's
Year From Hell...
An 'N Sync fan today on TRL said that "both Backstreet and
Britney Spears may be popular now, but 'N Sync's got the talent...that
Backstreet's on the decline...that their 'expiration date' is nearing."
Now Backstreet fans may not be too happy to hear those words, but the Boys
themselves must know what this means for them. Rolling Stone has done a
feature on Backstreet's "year from hell". Here's what Kevin
Richardson had to say about the rapid success of former labelmates 'N Sync:
Feeling hosed, the band began to falter a bit in performance,
while the competition in the pop market heated up. The Boys' five jaws dropped
when, in a surreal turn of events, they discovered that 'N Sync, their main
competition (at 6 million records and counting), were managed by none other than
. . . Lou Pearlman. "That hurt our feelings," says Richardson.
"Because for a while it was like, 'We're a family.' Then all of a sudden,
'It's business, guys, sorry.' We have nothing against . . . that group,
personally. It was [Pearlman's] not being honest."
Well boys, no matter how bitter you may be right now, you have to
face the fact that "that group" is here, and they're here to stay.
So you can run [off to another record label] but you can't
hide cuz ain't no stoppin' 'N Sync now !
'N
Sync Aids in Columbine Tragedy
Amidst their hectic touring schedule, the guys made it a
point last Friday in Colorado to spend some time with the students of Columbine
High. "We're going on our own to talk to a lot of kids --the victims in
hospitals-- and just have a big question-and-answer period," said Lance.
"We're going to try to counsel the kids that lived through this." Bass
said the group met with professional counselors to prepare for their session
with the students. "I think we have such a great thing right now, being
their age," Bass said. "I think they can relate a lot better to us
than a lot of adult counselors." He said the shootings have "really
scared" young people around the country. "We try to comfort them. The
biggest thing we can do is talk about it."
Album
Update...
Lance also revealed that 'N Sync has already recorded 30
songs for its sophomore album. Of these and the other songs to be recorded
in the group's interlude between tours, a baker's dozen or so will be carefully
selected for the tentative release date in October of this year. Other 'N Sync
projects in the works include their own PlayStation game, and of course that 'N
Sync movie expected in theaters sometime in the year 2000.
'N Sync Goes Postal
The 'N Sync stamps, which sent on sale Monday and which cost
one Caribbean dollar, can only be mailed from St. Vincent and the Grenadines,
but a website has been set up for the purchase of these souvenir items abroad.
For more information, visit www.nsyncstamps.com. The island nations are among
the few countries that allow living icons to appear on their stamps, and they
have commemorated various entertainers in the past for their contributions to
society. The Postmaster of St. Vincent said she chose 'N Sync because the band
"represented the best of what art and entertainment can present to young
people, as they are positive role models with a positive message."

Behind
the Scenes of Tarzan
This Saturday, May 8th, the Disney Channel's Movie
Surfer's will go inside Tarzan. Make sure to watch for clips of
'N Sync working with Phil Collins on their collaboration for the soundtrack
entitled Trashin' the Camp, a fun, high-energy tune that enlists the
voice of Rosie O'Donnell in the actual movie. The show will premiere at 7PM EST
on the Disney Channel.

if you live in the Orlando area and want to check out the Jammy Awards to be
held at the Hard Rock Cafe. 'N Sync will be playing in Ft. Lauderdale that
night, but who knows? Maybe they'll let the biggest 'N Sync fan accept 'N
Sync's accolades for them.
