Cats

Cats have always had a great importance in Freddie's life. There was nothing he wouldn't do for them. Needless to say, he had cats all during his life, and many cats at the same time.

Freddie and Tiffany

When going on tour, Freddie would proceed to "cat calls". He would call London to talk to his several cats. It is reported that Mary Austin, Freddie's former lover, would put them on the phone to hear him. Freddie was crazy about cats, and had several of them in London. Nevertheless, he didn't have cats in New York, where he had an apartment and where he used to spend a lot of time. He didn't have cats in Germany either, where he practically "lived" for some time. As Peter "Feebie" Freestone quotes in his excellent book, "with Freddie, home was where the cats were".

Freddie and Romeo

One of Freddie's lovers once gave him a cat. At one point, the relationship wasn't working out and they broke up... the cat, however, had to stay. Actually, Freddie dedicated his first solo album, "Mr. Bad Guy", to his beloved cats, and to all the cat lovers in this world. The cats even had their own Christmas presents.

Freddie and Miko

Some of Freddie's cats: Tom, Jerry, Oscar, Tiffany, Delilah (his favourite cat), Goliath, Miko, Romeo, Lily... have I forgotten any? Freddie spent a lot of time surrounded by his beloved cats. The kitties spent a lot of time on his bed and everywhere he went within the house. He placed as much importance on this beloved animals as on any human in his life. He loved them so much that he wrote a song to his favourite cat, "Delilah". He loved them so much that Delilah is reported to be on his bed when he left this world. He might not allow everyone in the house into his bedroom, but his cats would always be welcome.

I don't have any images of Tom or Jerry, the start of Freddie's live-in feline loves. Tom and Jerry lived with Freddie and Mary Austin. Would you like to read more about these lucky felines?
