Burning CDRs is not quite an exact science. Sooner or later, your CDR will spit out a disk halfway through writing it with an error message that makes about as much sense as trying to read crop circles. You re-boot your computer and it works fine again. You look at the disk and it looks fine, in fact, it looks cool. It's a shame to waste them, after all they're such a nice gold and blue color . . .
I pile all my failures (not too many any more) along with the CDs that a certain online provider likes to send on every magazine at the news stand and use them to decorate my house. The most popular use is coasters. You know how hard it is to get water rings out of the ply-wood that sits on two bricks that you call a coffee table. Well an old disk will work fine. Some CDRs are translucent and you can hang them in windows. You can glue two online disks together label to label and cut out "pie slices" and hang them like crystals. Cut out six diamond shapes and make a crystal. Arrange gold silver and blue pieces into "stained glass" patterns.
Keep one disk in your glove box and use it as a signal mirror in an emergency.
If you have any more ideas, pass them along.
